Rick Kelly has tasted success at the highest level in Supercars – as both a driver and team owner. The now-Nissan driver won the 2006 Supercars Championship, to go with back-to-back Bathurst 1000 victories with Greg Murphy in ’03 and ’04. Running his own team under the Nissan Motorsport banner with older brother Todd, Kelly is hoping to not only take his squad to the top, but also bring his own racing fortunes back to the forefront. Swiss-born racer Simona de Silvestro became the first full-time female driver in the Supercars era last year when she joined Nissan Motorsport. De Silvestro had two forays in a Supercar as a wildcard at Bathurst in 2015 and ’16. Their 2015 effort was the first all-female entry at Mount Panorama since Melinda Price and Kerryn Brewer in 1998, and they finished 14th one year later aboard a Nissan. Nissan Motorsport’s best-placed driver in the 2017 championship, Michael Caruso continues in the factory-backed #23 Altima this season. Caruso started out in karting at the age of 11, winning countless titles before stepping up to Formula Ford and Formula 3. A best Bathurst result of second with Lee Holdsworth and maiden race win at Hidden Valley came in 2009, with Caruso leaving to join Nissan as it entered Supercars in ’13. Andre Heimgartner returns to full-time Supercars competition in 2018, replacing the now-retired Todd Kelly at Nissan Motorsport. The young Kiwi always had his sights set on Supercars, and after a string of strong results in karts made the step up to the New Zealand Formula Vee Championship at just 12 years old, followed by seasons in Australian Formula Ford and Carrera Cup.

David Reynolds enjoyed a massive 2017 with Erebus Motorsport. In his second season with the team, Reynolds took out the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 alongside Luke Youlden on his way to seventh in the points, and won the Barry Sheene Medal. Known for wearing his heart on his sleeve and unique podium celebrations, Reynolds found a new home at Erebus after losing his Prodrive Racing Australia seat despite finishing third in the 2015 championship. The move came as Erebus switched from its Mercedes to Commodores, relocated from the Gold Coast to Melbourne and rebuilt its staff. After signs of promise in 2016 those changes paid off last year. Reynolds won multiple Australian titles on his way to the Supercars grid, including the 2004 Australian Formula Ford Championship and 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup crown.
