This year members of the City’sInvasive Species Unit and two riverwardens of the Mayor’s Kadar AsmalProject took part in the event.
The City’s Invasive Species Co-o r d i n a t o r L o u i s e S t a f f o r dsaid although progress has beenmade in controlling aquatic weeds,there is still a lot of work to be doneto address the ongoing dumping ofhousehold and industrial waste intorivers.
She said they are now focusing onfostering a stewardship programmein which people care for the rivers inthe same way they do for the moun-tain.
Zandvlei river warden Siyamdu-misa Sinyondo enjoyed paddlingthrough a natural watercourse afterAccess Park. Seeing people livingthere, he was shocked that theirwaste enters the river and then flowsinto the sea.
