Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, is among the 47
sites listed by Unesco Italians in the World Heritage

ROME, THE ETERNAL CITY
Its importance is huge as civilization.
Let's see!
AURELIAN WALLS The historic center included within the perimeter of the Aurelian Walls (left of the Tiber
River) and the walls gianicolenses (right of the river), 25,000 points of interest include
environmental and archaeological.
Legend has it that the founders of Rome were the brothers Romulus and Remus in 753 BC
by the famous wolf suckled, have become famous symbol of the capital, along with one of
its most important monuments: the Colosseum. But is the story that has made Rome great: at
first center of the Roman Republic, after primary focus of political and cultural life of the
Roman Empire in the fourth century, the capital of the Christian world.
The World Heritage site, extended in 1990 to the walls of Urban VIII, includes some of the
most important monuments of antiquity, among them the Roman Forum. Not far away, in
the hills of the Aventine, place of entertainment and relaxation of the Roman gens, found
two masterpieces: the Baths of Caracalla (212-217), which are among the greatest examples
of public toilets, and the Circus Maximus , former circus dedicated to horse racing.
Scrolling northward along the Tiber find the Mausoleum of Augustus, commanded imposing
monument build by Augustus in 29 BC on his return from Alexandria, so reminiscent of the
tomb of Alexander the Great.
MAUSOLEUM OF HADRIAN Another is the famous mausoleum of Hadrian, on which is built the
Castel Sant'Angelo. Radically changed in the Middle Ages and
Renaissance, is attached to the Vatican City State for fortified corridor.
Continuing in the historic center of Rome there is the Pantheon, a
temple dedicated to the gods of Olympus, built by the Emperor
Hadrian (118-128) and called by the Romans "La Rotonda".
Of undoubted interest are monumental columns: Trajan's Column,
erected to commemorate the conquest of Dacia by the Emperor, and
the Column of Marcus Aurelius, erected between 176 and 192 to honor
the victories over the Germans and placed in front Chigi Palace (now
the seat of government) in the great Piazza Colonna.
There are many unforgettable places of Rome: Campo
dei Fiori, with the statue of Giordano Bruno at its center,
Piazza Navona, where there is the splendid Fountain of
the Four Rivers by Bernini, Plaza of Spain with
characteristic steps, Piazza del Popolo with its famous
twin churches, Piazza Venezia with the imposing Victor
Emmanuel II monument whose back comes the
Campidoglio, the Largo Torre Argentina with the
remnants of ancient Roman temples, Plaza Trilussa and
Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, places both within the
historic district Trastevere.
In addition to the historic center of Rome, some
religious and public buildings of Rome in the late
fifteenth early sixteenth extraterritorial property of
the Holy See, part of Unesco Heritage. These include
some of the most beautiful churches in the capital,
considered true masterpieces: St. Mary Major, St.
John Lateran and St. Paul Outside the Walls.
The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore is one of the
largest basilicas of Rome, of great artistic and
religious value. In the Rome of the popes the Church
was one focus of the development plan made by
Sixtus V. even today, the basilica, with its recognizable
bell tower and domes is a feature of the Roman
landscape. The peculiarity of the basilica is the quality
and abundance of mosaics: the main nave and the
archway, V century, while the apse were completed in
1295. The beautiful rear facade, Carlo Rinaldi
masterpiece is one of the most solemn realizations of
baroque architecture.
THE HOLY SEE
St. John Lateran was the first cathedral of Rome, the
emperor Constantine in it, from the year 312, permitted
the making of the first episcopal see. With five ships and
a simple exterior and an interior richly decorated, the
basilica, on the occasion of the Holy Year of 1650, was
restored by Borromini. It was followed by the
restoration to the church assumed its Baroque
appearance.
Another patriarchal basilica St. Paul Outside the Walls,
built by Constantine on the will of 314 and successively
extended. In 1823, after a fire, it was rebuilt by architect
Pletti.
The basilica, divided into five naves, features 80 granite
columns Montorfano monolithic. At the top of the wall,
where Egyptian alabaster slabs alternating with large
windows, you can see 36 frescoes with scenes from the
life of St. Paul.
In this section we will present the top five tourist
destinations in Italy. These sites put a description of each
Italian city or each region of Italy. However, we do not want
to bore you saying that Rome is the historic capital of the
Roman Empire or can shop and rebuilt in modern Milan.
This information as generally prevents you assemble a
precise schedule. That is, Italy has beautiful natural beauty
and an imperial tradition of over two millennia: in short, you
can not know everything that Italy has to show. What we will
do is give you an overview of the Italian cities not only of
specific tourism destinations in Italy, the best or most
popular this peninsular country has to offer the tourist. Note
that we have compiled the top destinations throughout Italy
and although only five, probably you can not visit them all in
one trip, the idea is that you know each of them so you can
make a list of priorities and a Italy vacation itinerary. Let us
begin the journey.
FIVE PLACES YOU HAVE TO GO
ROMAN COLOSSEUM Built between 70 and 72 AD and 80 AD The Coliseum is currently the
most representative architectural structure of ancient Rome. This
magnificent building were located 50000 people to see different public
events among which was the fight of gladiators. The formidable
architectural beauty did not correspond to the atrocities that were
committed in the sand, but today, when they have stopped this shameful
practice, the Colosseum is unique to human history and a must-see
monument in the nearby Roman ruins set this famous building.
THE TOWER OF PISA
The famous leaning tower of Pisa and Leaning
born. Of course, not deliberately, but since the
beginning of its construction in 1173 the tower
began to tilt slowly. Many believe that the tower
of Pisa is leaning on purpose and many others
believe it is a monument in itself. Neither belief is
true, the inclination of the tower was never
planned and the tower is not alone but is the bell
tower of the Cathedral of Pisa that is meters away
from her but does not appear in any photos
because the tower takes all eyes. Now, after
years of work, the tower is open to the public to
ascend 294 steps by crossing the 8 floors up to
the bell tower.
THE CHANNELS VENICE The sinking city arouses the interest of the entire planet, we all want to go to a city
covered with water. The architectural beauty of Venice, its canals and bridges that
cross are unmatched, unique and beautiful. But while thus still do not want to
scare anyone because Venice is a must within tourism in Italy, it would be nice to
clear some myths. The portion of Venice has canals and gondolas water is just a
few blocks away, there is an entire city that has streets rather than streams. On the
other hand, the romance of travel by gondola is not as fairytale as it seems: the
water by plying the gondolas is being dumped in the sewers and household drains
so the smell is not just a rose. However, none of this matters, travel through the
canals of Venice is an experience not to be missed as the magic there is far more
powerful than reality.
CAPRI This paradise island located in the Mediterranean has become a preferred tourist destination. The beauty of its
beaches and the island itself make it a popular destination for celebrities and the Neapolitans in general. The
island of Capri is a unique destination in Italy since the main thing is the entertainment, the sun and the beach
and not the history and architectural wonders. Capri is ideal for spending a few days in the middle of your
sightseeing trip in Italy to return to the mainland to continue marveling of cultural and historical splendor of
Italy.
AGRIGENTO
THE VALLEY OF
THE TEMPLES Hinged on terraces on top of a plateau with a checkerboard urban
distribution, Acragas was one of the most important Greek and
Mediterranean cities. Surrounded by the end of the sixth century B.C. by an
imposing defensive wall with nine gates, the colony enjoyed a period of great
expansion in the V century BC , During the reign of the tyrant Theron, and
continued with the establishment of democracy. In this period were built
Doric temples of southern hill having as the altiplano southern boundary on
which the city stood. Scenario of the war between the Carthaginians and
Romans for control of the Mediterranean, the city fell into decline
progressively until conquered by the Romans, wine called "Agrigentum".
Very heart of the archaeological area of Agrigento, the area of the temples is
a unique place. The Temple of Olympian Zeus or Jupiter, which we have just
gotten the base and the main altar, was one of the greatest ancient Greek
temples. The oldest temple of Agrigento is to Heracles or Hercules, while the
best preserved is the Temple of Concord, probably the most impressive Doric
temple that has survived to this day after the Parthenon in Athens. The
building was converted into a Christian church, as we indicated the graves
excavated in the pavement.
Contemporary Temple of Concord is the Temple of Hera or Juno
Lacinia, badly damaged by fire late V century BC You should also visit
the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the shrine dedicated to the chthonic
deities or "land" Demeter and Persephone - a cult very popular among
women of the area, 'The Hephaestus or Vulcan, separated from the
preceding by a pool fed by an ancient aqueduct, the Temple of Isis,
Augustan-Tiberian period later, the temple of Demeter, joined the
Rupe Atenea, the ancient acropolis of the city, the Sanctuary of
Asclepius or Aesculapius, the Greek god of medicine, therapeutic
center and rites of Athena, now part of the Church of St. Mary of the
Greeks.
Do not miss the agora area of Greek and Roman times, structured in
various heights and center of public life, the "Board Room" or
"Bouleuterion" in the northern part of San Nicolas Poggetto and
Gymnasium, former place of sports, educational and recreational.
The Temple Valley has a rich necropolis area Greek, Roman and early
Christian, on the outskirts of the ancient city, and the Tomb of Theron,
named after a popular attribution error, and has nothing to do with the
Acragas ancient Hellenic tyrant. To conclude are the aqueducts
noteworthy, mosaics of soil that has survived in the Greek and Roman
suburbs and subsequent early Christian basilicas, most notably the
"Villa Athena", near the Temple of Concordia.
THE BEST BEACHES IN
ITALY
Amalfi
The Amalfi Coast has an area of over 50 kilometers, crossing several villages

Site by UNESCO.

sea in which obviously has to be prepared to walk up and down steep stairs. One of
the best beaches, which is reached after approximately 400 steps down, is Fornillo
beach from which you can see three islands that make up the archipelago of "Li
Galli". This beach is black sand, and in high season (June) is usually populated .

the coast where you can also see some islands, varied vegetation,

without doubt, this is one of the best places in the Italian countryside.

Nature here is sublime, big cliffs, coves, rocks, the mouth of the gulf
spanning over 30 kilometers and can only get here by boat.
There are two distinct parts, the southern part is the largest, has over 40
miles of coastline reaching out almost to the Holy Mountain. This whole
area is very lush, has beautiful forests, coves, caves and a high coast where
many small beaches are unique, as they are surrounded by vertical walls of
limestone The northern part has a low coast and reaches the Black out ,
consists of pine forests, dunes and long sandy beaches and clear water.
THE “TUSCAN”CITY It is located in central Italy and stretches from the Apennines to the Tyrrhenian
Sea.
The landscapes, artistic heritage and important cities, where the first of these is
Florence, make Tuscany an unquestioned protagonist in the global tourism
landscape.
In this region, nature has different manifestations, beginning with the coast,
alternating long sandy beaches, such as Versilia, with cliffs and rocky
headlands.
Are incomparable Tuscan Archipelago islands, surrounded by Mediterranean
vegetation, crystal clear waters and rich marine.
Other natural landscapes can be admired in the Apuan Alps and in many
protected areas, including Orbetello lagoon, home to numerous species of
migratory birds, including herons rose.
But the most characteristic of the region are those that blend harmoniously the
beauty of nature with the ancient human presence.
The Gulf of Baratti and splendid archaeological sites of Vetulonia, Vulci and
Pitigliano preserved necropolis and the remains of the Etruscan civilization,
while Roselle and Cosa give us memories of Roman times.
