R O C L M T I O N

Whereas, The South End neighborhood of Springfield, Massachusetts, has historically been a destination and home tothousands of Italian-Americans; people who by virtue of industry, creativity, spirit and faith have made and continue tomake our community a strong and vibrant place; and

Whereas, Italians and Italian-Americans have made great contributions to our countries identity. Their dedication,

loyalty and commitment to the City of Springfield inspires Italian-Americans and the entire community; and

Whereas, Italian-Americans have toiled and labored while helping to build our Nation's infrastructure, including

railroads, tunnels, highways, and subways; and

Whereas, The month of October is a time to honor Italian Heritage and the many contributions Italians have made to ourcommunity and our nation. Italian-Americans have won prestigious prizes, such as the Nobel Prize, the Pritzker Awardfor architecture, and the Fields Medal for mathematics just to name a few.

of the City of Springfield, do hereby proclaim the month of:

October 2015 as

Italian Heritage Month
