    Information Technology Systems Technician

    (Auckland)

    In each and every appointment for employment at Tai Poutini Polytechnic,

    the employer is the Chief Executive of the institution.

    Conditions of Service: Allied Staff Collective Employment Agreement or Individual

    Employment Agreement

    Reporting to: Information Technology Manager

    Position Status: Part-time (20 hours per week)

    Remuneration: Allied Staff Remuneration Schedule

    subject to qualifications and experience

    Range: Grade 3, $40,916 to $43,452

    Location: Auckland

    Functional Relationships: TPP users including students and staff

    Purpose of Position:

    To provide efficient and effective IT technical support services to MAINZ users.

    Key Tasks:

    Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities Examples of Key Performance Measures

    Assist with setup and maintenance of systemaccounts.

    Answer user enquiries re SW & HW problems. Setup and maintain peripherals including

    referring defective devices to vendors for

    repair or support under warranty.

    Install and perform minor repairs to hardwaredevices.

    Install software and configure Update systems, OS and applications Installation and maintenance of cabling and

    wireless access Provide support to users with mobile devices

    Accounts are setup and maintained Issues are resolved within the requirements of the TPP

    SLA

    Devices are successfully deployed

    Successful implementation in a timely manner as setwithin the requirements of the TPP SLA.

    Legislation and Polytechnic Policy

    The IT systems Technician is responsible for ensuring that their own actions and accountabilities comply under:

    All relevant legislation The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (and any subsequent amendments) and TPP Health and Safety

    policy are complied with. The Act includes obligations in respect of staff, visitors and contractors

    The Consolidated Code of Staff Ethics Staff are aware of and comply with TPPs

    health and safety policy and procedures

    Hazard identification processes establishedand maintained within the department and

    ensuring the Hazard Register is maintained

    and up to date

    Accidents and incidents are reportedimmediately and strict adherence to TPP policy

    and processes in relation to the management

    of such matters within the department

    Demonstrated adherence when appropriate

    Professional / Personal Development

    The IT Systems Technician is responsible for keeping up to date with professional and technical developments

    relevant to the Department through research, industry contact, consultancy, reading and where possible, attending

    appropriate courses and conferences as approved by the IT Manager

    Negotiate objectives annually with the ITManager

    Identify needs and through formativeappraisal processes negotiate own training

    and development plan with the IT Manager

    Keep up to date and further develop IT skills

    Professional development plan produced and achieved Demonstrated adherence when appropriate

    Any other duties and responsibilities that are applicable to the position description as required, and subject to

    negotiation

    Person Specification:

    (1) Experience(a) Demonstrable experience of working with a team.(b) Industry experience in a multi platform environment would be desirable.(c) Familiarity with tertiary institutions would be an advantage.

    (2) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities(a) A sound theoretical and practical knowledge of Macs and PCs.(b) Analytical and strategic thinking.(c) Ability to work in a team environment, work alone and lead others to develop and

    promote an efficient technical service.

    (d) Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students.(e) Problem solving skills; including the ability to identify problems and review related

    information to develop and evaluate opinions and implement solutions.
