Our bOard Of dIrectOrs PrOVIde great leadershIP

The YMCA of Regina is recognized as a leader in the community, a sought after partner & recognized as a worthy charity.

The Regina YMCA is a multi-faceted enterprise. Most would consider the Y a fitness centre but it is so much more than that. Being a member of the Regina YMCA means being part of an organization that is deeply involved and enriches the community in which we live. Our members contribute to our annual Strong Kids Campaign allowing children who would not normally have the opportunity the chance to participate in YMCA Programs. Our Child Care Centres provide a safe and enriching environment for children to explore, discover and experience through learning. Our Community Development Programs fill a very important need in the areas of the city that require it most. Our growing Philanthropy initiatives will provide a sold base for the YMCA to continue serving its membership and doing good work in the community. And after all that, it’s still the best place going to build spirit, mind and body through our very broad offering of fitness equipment, classes and facilities.

Thank you to the management, staff and volunteers that make the Regina YMCA such a truly special place.

Bill Bea rman, Chair

We enrich the lives of all citizens by creating and developing programs and partnerships meeting the needs of our community.

CMHA Clean Beginnings Laundromat projectThrough the YMCA and HPS partnership, Canadian Mental Health Association created a social enterprise in order to provide an employment skills training program for clients who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This year, Clean Beginnings Laundromat trained XX participants in the Laundromat. One of the trainees, who was homeless,

has now secured affordable housing. She expressed how her training allowance has been helpful in this endeavour. She also feels that she has more self confidence and self esteem due to having a safe place to live.

Children have access to YMCA Childcare programs whereby they discover learning through creative play.

This year marks our 5th year running the YMCA Canada Play to Learn program. Children learn through opportunities of creative play.

Momma Duck, Baby DuckThe children and toddler room staff went for a walk to Lakewood Park to feed the ducks. As we started to come closer to the lake, all the children began to shout in excitement and point over to the ducks. We showed the children how to throw the bread to the ducks and watched as they all ran to eat it.

“Mommy duck”, Cassandra said pointing to a duck. “Baby duck”, she added.

I noticed that she was comparing the different sizes of the ducks. She saw the smaller duck and knew right away it was a baby duck; from this knew the bigger duck was the mother. She continued to show all her friends the mommy and baby ducks.

Through this experience, Cassandra demonstrated the beginning levels of classification by recognizing the bigger and smaller duck at the lake.

We grOW leaders

The YMCA of Regina develops leaders equipped to take action locally, nationally and internationally.

This year, the YMCA Aboriginal Leadership Group (TYL) planned and facilitated a two day employment readiness conference for their peers. This gave 40 youth participants a chance to put their learned skills into practice.

“I was asked if I consider myself a role model, and I would say ‘no’ because I am a ‘BK’ (Bad Kid). Coming to TYL make me realize that I am not a bad kid- but I started to believe I was because I was telling myself I was one. . . Now, hanging out at the Y, I feel like I am healthier and more mature because the staff keep me in line.” – Nikoma, Age 13

“ I am thankful for the program because it gives the kids a sense of responsibility and gives them a chance to be a part of something and be able to not only receive from this program, but also to give. I also like how the program helps to build work ethic and accountability in taking care and helping out someone/something else. ” - Elly Allen, The Oasis, about the SEEK Program

We enhance PersOnal health

Regina citizens are involved in healthy, values-based programming and make healthy active choices.

This year, the YMCA of Regina supported the healthy choice of being active for over 2500 participants in our Group Fitness program.

“I first came to the YMCA with my staff in November of 2011. At that time, we thought we would do some team building through fun and fitness.

The staff bonding and team building was a great success but it was even more of a success for me because it was the beginning of a long term commitment to getting into better shape.

The YMCA has a great atmosphere where we all feel welcome and encouraged no matter what our fitness levels are.

Their encouragement is essential and it is never lacking. Thank you!”

Mike Romanski, Member
