The winners of the Linked Vici Competition, our third and finalcompetition on open and linked data for educational purposes, havebeen announced at ISWC 2014, the 13th International Semantic WebConference, in Riva del Garda, Italy.
All the Vici Shortlisted Candidates receive their awards
The Vici shortlist contains ten innovative, mature tools, which are allworth checking out. The evaluation panel selected the following foursubmissions as the winners.

The reviewers spentquite some time clicking around and were “overall happy with theinterface and with the data”.AGRIS, a system to support Agricultural Science and Technologyworldwide. It contains a bibliographic database, collectingmetadata from every side of the world, in various languages.AGRIS can rely on over 150 data providers located in more than100 different countries and attracts thousands of visitors on amonthly basis. AGRIS has participated in the previous Vidicompetition; the reviewers observed that the systemtremendously improved since then and now completely exposesits database as Linked Open Data.
Second Place (€2000):
Didactalia, which has been developed by the team of GNOSS,who has also participated in the previous Veni competition.Didactalia has a large user base in Spain and explicitly addresseseducational stakeholders. The Didactalia system is a lighthouseexample for the use of Semantic Web and Linked Data and helpsyou to browse, find and use learning material on many differenttopics, for different age groups and from various educationalrepositories. The reviewers found it an outstanding initiative and agreat example for other countries next to Spain.
First Place (€3000):
FLAX, provides data for language learning in a new and innovativeway by combining corpora, varying from TED talks to academiccollections. It also support teachers in creating automatedexercises and assessments with these corpora. FLAX has beendesigned for language teachers and language learners.Teachersor supporting staff can build their own language collections,serving their specific needs. The FLAX software can be freelydownloaded and used both online and in the classroom.

Flax receive their award
The winner of the People’s Choice Award was selected by theparticipants of the ISWC 2014 conference. The Award was won by theVisualization of Water Resources & Ecology

The Vici presentation and award ceremony at ISWC 2014 marks theend of the LinkedUp Challenge, which received many greatsubmissions for Veni, Vidi and Vici. Links to all prototypes and toolswill remain available on our LinkedUp Challenge website.
