Bir lkenin istatistik altyaps, tm karar sistemlerini ve bilimsel
almalarn etkilemek durumundadr. lkemizde sosyal ve
ekonomik yapda meydana gelen srekli ve hzl deiim; Trkiye
statistik Kurumu tarafndan, veri dzeyinde, gvenilir, gncel ve
kapsaml ekilde yanstlmaldr.
statistik verilerin kapsam ve gncelliinin yan sra, zaman ve
mekan ierisindeki zenginlii de aratrma ve karar almaya ynelik
kantitatif analizlerin yaplabilmesi iin kanlmaz olmaktadr.
Trkiye statistik Kurumu, toplumsal ve ekonomik yapyla ilgili veri
retimi srelerinde meydana gelen deiiklikler karsnda yaanan
zorluklara ramen, istatistik ve dier bilim dallarnn aralar ile
saysz konularda yapt saym anket ve aratrmalarla zaman
perspektifi ierisinde tutarl, kapsaml, gncel ve karlatrlabilir
serilerle lke istatistik altyapsn oluturmay hedeflemitir. Veri
retim sreleri kapsamnda serilerin oluturulamad dnemlerde
ise Kurum, zellikle zaman serisi boyutunda akademik almalar
ve/veya aratrmalar yapan kullanclar iin farkl dnemlere ait
istatistiki bilgilerin devamlln salamak adna azami gayret
gstermitir.
Bu amala, 1923 ylndan gnmze temel istatistik gstergelerin
bir arada sunulduu statistik Gstergeler 1923-2009 adl
bu yayn ilk olarak 1991 yl Austos aynda yaymlam olan
Kurumumuz, tarihi sreci saylarla kayt altna alarak, gemite
gzlenen gelimeleri, bilim ve istatistiin bak asyla, deer
yarglarndan bamsz ve tarafsz bir yaklam ierisinde gelecee
aktarmaktadr. Sosyal, ekonomik ve kltrel alanlarda kapsad 20
blmle Cumhuriyet Dnemi Trkiyesi iin nemli bir bavuru
kayna haline gelmi olan yayn, her yl CD ve internet ortamnda
ve ayrca be ylda bir basl yayn olarak sunulmaktadr.
Yaynn karar alclar, aratrmaclar ve dier kullanclara yararl
olacana inanyoruz.
FOREWORD
In any country the statistical infrastructure is bound to influence all
decision-making processes and scientific research. Since rapid
structural change is taking place in both the social and economic
fields in our country, the Turkish Statistical Institute carries the task
of reflecting these changes at the data level with minimum error
and in the shortest time possible.
To be able to carry out quantitative analysis for research and
decision-making, it is necessary that the statistical data be rich
along time scale as well as recent and comprehensive.
The Turkish Statistical Institute aims to constitute the country
statistical infrastructure, notwithstanding the changes in data
generating processes associated with rapid development in
economy, society and culture, by obtaining time series which are
consistent with its numerous surveys and census and comparable
along the time scale using the methods and means of science and
statistics. In cases where changes in data generating processes
cannot be remedied by the changes in data production processes
and consistent time series could not be formed, the Turkish
Statistical Institute has been resorting to scientific methods to link
and transform series.
With this aim, TurkStat has been one of the important instutions
contributing to the process of writing history in an impartial fashion
by recording development using the methods and means of science
and statistics with the publication called Statistical Indicators 1923-
2009 which presents basic statistical indicators in the period
between 1923 and the present time and was published first in
August 1991. This publication which has become one of the major
references with 20 chapters that cover social, economical and
cultural subjects for the Republican Era is available on CD s and
internet in every year and available as publication in five year.
We believe that this publication will be beneficial to decision-
makers, researchers and other users of statistics.

EXPLANATION SOURCES OF DATA The data in this publication have been obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and other officials. Those tables that do not indicate their sources are based on information prepared by TurkStat. For tables based on information taken directly from related organization, the sources are listed at the bottom of the table. Structure of organization and division names are changed with the new Turkish Statistical Law; no 5429 and date 18.11.2005.
