Poverty in South Asia
What is Poverty? • Poverty is the world at its worst
when people are deprived of basic everyday things that we take for granted like food, water, shelter, money, and clothes.
What is Poverty?
Poverty is hunger.• lack of shelter.• being sick and not being able to see a doctor.• not having access to school and not knowing how to read.• not having a job• losing a child to illness brought about by unclean water.• powerlessness, • lack of representation and freedom.
Poverty in South Asia
One of the most intractable problems facing the region is poverty. Although South Asia has 22% of the world’s population it contains more than 44% of the world’s poor. More than four hundred and fifty million South Asians live below the poverty line, it includes those who earn $1 or less a day.
Causes of Poverty• Poverty is a problem in South Asia due to the
population strain on limited land and other resources, and weak economic development caused by faulty government policies and corruption.
Causes of Poverty• Lack of education • Poverty is also caused natural disasters by drugs and
alcohol• Lack of money because some people spend all their
money• Greed on addictions .• No opportunities provided• Overpopulation
Effects on economic growth• How will be economy of the suffering countries of
South Asia( Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives ) where the large number of population can't contribute in economic growth due to poverty, illiteracy and overpopulation.
Solutions To Poverty• No war• Ask the government to do a lot more about poverty• Donate things you don’t use to charity• Donate food that wont spoil to food banks• Education• Lots of opportunities
