ABOUT THIS ISSUE

I am very proud and excited about this month’s magazine and the variety of art displayed in it. I am pleased to present qualitative and interesting exhibitions, fledgling artists alongside well-known artists. The exhibitions can say it with the common denominator: Color. Colorful bursts that gives a burst of energy. The Group exhibition - The Power of Color - presents various meanings of reality, a combination of styles in Original art, photography and digital art full of color. This month’s most recommended exhibitions to visit are the Fresh Paint 7 and the Israeli- French exhibition, The 2Nd Salon D'Automne. In both exhibitions there are excellent artists with great contemporary art. Today I remembered a quote of the great artists Edgar Degas (1834- 1917): “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see”.Those very wise words give me a great satisfaction from this magazine, which I hope will give you a good energy and happiness the same way it gives me. Art at its best! Cover Photo:

H illel ZhEnwirthH illel ZhEnwirthI was born in Tel Aviv Israel on the 18th or 19th of April 1972 (depending on who you ask, my mother or the government).I've always loved fine arts especially painting and drawing, as a child I was always painting. After the army in 1994 I traveled to China where I studied martial arts for two years. During my stay there also learned Chinese painting and calligraphy which influenced my art to some degree. In 1996 I returned to Israel knowing I wanted to become a painter.I then found my teacher, Mr. Leo Contini, an amazing artist by any standard. I studied Italian Classic technices and also became his assistant in his studio in the Jaffo district of Tel Aviv for two years. In retrospective his teachings would become the most influencial and significant from all my studies. In 1998 I received a scholarship from

the Emily Carr Institute for Art and Design in Vancouver Canada where I moved to study Fine Arts for 3 years.I returned to Israel in 2001 and studied for another year at the Midrasha School of Art until 2002.Since then I work and teach in Tel Aviv Israel.

An interesting Homage to the art of the legendary Andy Warhol appears in a new pop art exhibition of the architect and multi-disciplinary artist Zvi Horesh. The pioneers of pop art created a new world with no boundaries and defied what was considered then the norms of what was acceptable and desired in an artwork. Horesh carries on from this point, using a wide variety of expression techniques: photography, printing on canvas, painting, collage, video-art, graphics and 3d op-art printing.Horesh derives his inspiration from the urban scenery. He is interested in the expression of society in the global village focusing on consumption and marketing culture. His works are characterized with repetition and imitation of the stereotyped images of this culture – advertising, cinema, pop art and popular consumer products. It is evident the artist is well aware of the endless opportunities in art and in creating

artistic effects. His work expresses the "no need" to look for definitions, his techniques merge well one into the other creating a strong symbioses of vivid colors.

Horesh creates figurative happenings that combine strong colorful brush strokes full of sensuality, inspiration and joy of life. Horesh's work is strong yet lacking any arrogance and it is evident that they inspired by his occupation as a lecturer on creative thinks and patent developing. In this exhibition Horesh presents work that state that there is no gap between the functional and the aesthetic, and that the combination of both expand the field of creation giving him a source of infinite creativity.

Norma Jane was an actress, singer and a sex symbol of Hollywood of the 50's and 60's of the 20th century. She was better known in her stage name – Marilyn Monroe. She died in August 1982. In the 4 month following her death, Warhol created more than 20 silk prints of her face, all based on one single photograph by Gene Korman from 1962 that was used as an advertisement for the feature film Niagara.

For Warhol, the image of Marilyn Monroe was the essence for two major themes in his work – death and the world of glamour.Andy Warhol's work stands in the center of this exhibition and is the motivating power and inspiration for it.Horesh's Monroe gets a different interpretation with a unique finger print, emphasizing his control of a wide scope no techniques of painting, photography, print and graphic media. The "Marilyn" is set in deep textures of color, figurative stains of paints in which she momentarily hides, only to leap out again with her distinguished face, her lips, her eyes, all preserving the strength of this legendary icon. This way the artist creates a new As an additional gesture to Warhol the pioneers, Horesh exhibits the 32 Campbell soup cans, a work that demonstrates Warhol's inclination to choose ordinary objects from the everyday all American life. Campbell's soup cans symbolize the fast food industry and the mass production

and are still today an icon that symbolize the influence of the industrial life and the consumer culture at all its power. The graphic images that Horesh chooses to print on these cans shows an identical Campbell can image with a different verbal context – "imagination is more than knowledge" by Albert Einstein as a way of homage to Warhol's avant-garde work. The artist: Zvi Horesh, artist and multidisciplinary designer, Ceo of Horesh interior design,

lectures about creative thinking and inventions, has exhibited in the past a few exhibitions among them one with the internationally renowned artist David Gerstein. His work has gain vast interest from collectors and galleries in Israel and abroad

Zvi Horesh abilities as a graphic designer bring into his work an enhanced visual added value, with a graphic ability to create fascinating scenarios of form, structure and unique color textures. As a designer who owns an interior design studio and an art gallery, Horesh knows how to combine the art work and the space in which it will set.His last exhibition with the artist David Gerstein "riding in the wind" achieved great interest amongst the media and collectors. The first and most important feeling that Horesh is keen on including in every work that he creates is the "wow experience", a cognetive feeling of optimism and joy of life.Major techniques of work that he uses:

1. Mixed Media, Double print on voile fabric and photographic paper2. Mixed Media painting3. 3d op art – photography, graphic overlay and print on lenticular lenses

Fresh Paint 7

Fresh Paint 7, the contemporary art and design fair Tel Aviv, will be held on November 4-8 in a new and surprising venue: the new city sports center, built on the grounds of the iconic Tel Aviv drive-in. The venue was chosen by Fresh Paint CEO Sharon Tilinger and artistic director and curator Yifat Gurion for its extensive grounds, which make it ideal for exhibitions and the 35 thousand visitors expected to attend the fair.

Ron Huldai, the mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo, says: “I’m happy that Fresh Paint affords

the opportunity to re-focus the attention on different sites and city buildings every year. The fair exposes their artistic beauty by taking them away them from their functional context. Tel Aviv municipality invests many resources and efforts in establishing and managing cultural, educational and sports venues, and we are especially proud of our new sports center. It will answer the needs of different sport associations, and be the new home to the Hapoel Tel Aviv basketball club”.

The new sports center measures

6,600 square meters, with an outdoor area measuring 10,000 square as well as extensive car parking facilities. Fresh Paint 7 will make use of the total space area including locker and dressing rooms, gym areas, referee rooms, the press room and the VIP guest room, which will be converted into an art and design space. The comfortable location of the sports center – in proximity to major highways, train stations and the TLV Convention Center, makes it highly accessible to the public. The construction of the new sports center, which will be opened in January 2015, was funded entirely by the Tel Aviv municipality

and will be managed by Sport Palaces Ltd. It. The sports center will be the new home to Hapoel Tel Aviv basketball club, serve as the practice arena for all Israeli national sports teams and host international sporting events, cultural events, music shows and conferences. The sports center was designed by GAB Architects. its plann is based on the architectural concept of “display windows” created by Dmitry Mazo.

Theme centered projects and exhibitions:This year, Fresh Paint will have a project-centered format in which galleries and

other art and design institutions will exhibit diverse conceptualized and theme-related projects, as well as sole exhibitions and group and theme exhibitions.

The Independent Artists GreenhouseThe Independent Artists Greenhouse is an original model conceived by Fresh Paint. It displays the works of 50 up-and-coming artists at the beginning of their professional career. These are chosen by 12 panel

members comprising of curators, gallery owners, art critics and collectors from Israel and abroad. The idea is to discover promising artists and expose their artworks to the general public. The submissions are made anonymously and the composition of the panel changes yearly to ensure diversity, equality and the fair’s artistic quality.Among the graduates of the Independent Artists Greenhouse are Know Hope, Ido

Michaeli and Ella Amitay Sadovsky, who were first brought to the attention of the public in Fresh Paint, as well as Dror Daum, Liav Mizrahi , Elham Rokni, Uriel Meron, Aharon Ozeri, Ohad Matalon and Iva Kafri – all award-winning artists, who have exhibited or are currently exhibiting in museums across the country.

Fresh DesignAfter the phenomenal success of Fresh Design 1 in 2013, this year's Fresh Paint will again feature a design area exhibiting diverse projects and collaborations with leading design institutions. Fresh Design will offer a contemporary, updated representation of the current Israeli design landscape, and unveil diverse exhibitions by 20 young product designers and leading design labels such as Talents Design, Aqua Creations, The Magenta Workshop and Design Space.

Fresh Paint was founded as a catalyst for activity of the Israeli arts community, proving a great success since its inception in 2008. The fair provides an ideal meeting point between design lovers, galleries and design institutions in Israel, as well as independent artists – who exhibit their work in the Independent Artists Greenhouse.

Artistic director and curator Yifat Gurion says: “For the past seven years, Fresh Paint has afforded well-established artists as well as up-and-coming artists the opportunity to exhibit their work to tens of thousands of visitors. The artistic content reflects the reality around us, and this year we feel this to be true to an even greater extent. The occurrences of the last summer in Israel and the difficult year we’ve had are expressed through the artistic interpretation in the different exhibitions and projects”.

Gurion adds that “this year, for the first time, exhibitors were asked to offer thematic projects and exhibitions. This change demanded a more scrupulous and narrowed selection of works, and ensured that the quality of the works presented is now higher than ever. Two major trends can be identified in the works – and they both contradict and complement each other - on the one hand, expressions of aggression and hardship and on the other, a total escapism. In addition, more and more independent artists are living and working abroad, a trend which leads to a
