3D Mammography Begins Earlier this summer, supporters and staff came together to celebrate the beginning of 3D Mammography at Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) and unveiled a pink donor wall, which recognizes gifts of $1,000 or higher toward the project. Over $200,000 was raised to support the 3D Mammography project. Cara Milder-Forbes, Imaging Director at JRMC, indicated the benefits of 3D Mammography include early detection, less anxiety and reduced medical costs for patients. When patients, mostly women, have to wait for mammogram results, minutes may seem like days. With this technology, patients will receive more accurate results in a timely manner. At Jones Regional, we offer as many quality health care services locally as we can. According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. With these statistics in mind we decided to investigate the possibility of offering 3D Mammography at Jones Regional. The community was supportive of this technology and service so we continued our fundraising efforts and are pleased to be able to offer this service locally.   From the Auxiliary President

JRMC Auxiliary supports education and health care throughout our community. We do this by sponsoring high school students studying a health care related field and a JRMC staff member who is furthering their education with a $500 scholarship. We hope these grants highlight the importance of quality health care offered to the communities served by Jones Regional Medical Center.

Upcoming JRMC Auxiliary Fundraiser:

Helping others and making friends

“Coming together to make prayer shawls for patients at Jones Regional Medical Center has become much more than just crocheting or knitting, we’ve developed friendships,” says Christy Henderson. Delores Albrecht, who also comes to the workshops on a regular basis, says, “We don’t look at it as a chore, but we really enjoy getting together and it makes you feel good you are helping patients in the hospital.”

They enjoy making new friends and always welcome others to join. Karen Lammers moved here from Colesburg. She missed her friends and was able to meet some great people who enjoy doing the same things that she does and enjoys the friendships and opportunity to help others.

Bonnie Mull drives from Lisbon and says, “It is a way that we can volunteer and help. In fact, I really miss it when I can’t come.”

Henderson says, “It is the fellowship I enjoy. We like to share patterns and help each other with the shawls. I really enjoy helping others with their projects and knowing they are blessed means so much to us. The fact they are given to patients who need a little extra comfort is so gratifying.”

The group meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 1 – 3 p.m. in the JRMC Cafeteria.

Pictured above are some of the ladies who came to a recent prayer shawl meeting. From left: Delores Albrecht, Karen Lammers, Christy Henderson and Bonnie Mull.

Jones Regional Medical Center Foundation received a generous gift from an anonymous couple for our endowment fund at the Jones County Community Foundation,an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque.

This philanthropic couple gave to Jones Regional because they value local health care and shared that it’s important how the staff really care about patients and it shows every time they are at the hospital.

By giving a gift to our endowment fund at the Community Foundation they received the 25 percent endow Iowa tax credit, the federal charitable tax deduction and avoided capital gains tax on the appreciated stock.

For information on stock gifts or Endow Iowa Tax Credits, contact Sheila Tjaden at the JRMC Foundation at (319) 481-6118.

Arlo Benesh wanted to give back to those who cared for his wife, Velma, while she was a patient at Jones Regional. He and his daughter Vanessa were able to say thank you to the care team who gave so much to Velma during her stay at Jones Regional Medical Center. Arlo says his family is so grateful to have a facility like Jones Regional available with such wonderful staff. Although he doesn’t want to come to a hospital as a patient, if he does, he says that he would choose Jones Regional.

We thank Arlo and his family for the generous gift to Jones Regional Medical Center Foundation to benefit the Inpatient Unit.
