Racial Harmony Day by Samuel Teoh and Jamie Tan, 22 July Racial Harmony Day was commemorated on 22 July 2013. The theme for this year was ‘Celebrating Singapore’. The focus was to celebrate our diversity and richness as we come together and find strength from our shared experiences and heritage. On that day, some of the pupils came to come to school dressed in a traditional ethnic costume. Throughout the week, pupils were engaged in meaningful and interesting classroom activities that allowed them to reflect on the theme for the year. During their recesses, pupils viewed the display booths showcasing the various food, traditional clothing, games and basic greetings of the respective races. Pupils were also given an opportunity to win prizes through a school-wide quiz based on the display booths. It was indeed an enriching experience for the pupils.

Mass Jog and National Day Celebration, 5 August by Jamie Tan The school held its annual National Day celebration and Mass Jog at East Coast Park on 5th August. The park was filled with zealous children and adults, donned in their red and white attire. The spirit of patriotism was felt as parents, students and teachers sang along to popular National Day medleys. The Singaporean Spirit could not be dampened by the unexpected brief downpour. It was an enjoyable day and definitely one that should be included in our Singapore story.

Hari Raya Puasa Celebration and Shaun Jansen’s Performance, 12 August By Jamie Tan Hari Raya Puasa was celebrated on the 12th of August in St Stephen’s School. The beautiful colours of the traditional Malay baju kurung heightened the festive atmosphere and Stephenians were entertained by a special musical performance by their peers. The hosts for the celebration also shared about the significance of fasting and the celebration of Hari Raya itself. On this same day, there was a special programme featuring our ex-Stephenian, Shaun Jansen, who was the finalist on Mediacorp’s Final 1. The students were pleasantly surprised and felt ecstatic the moment Jason strummed the guitar and crooned to a few current hits. It was an amazing performance and we were proud that our very own ex-Stephenian managed to be one of the finalists in this popular competition. . Staff Recognition Day by Dylan Rondon, 5 September Staff Recognition Day was celebrated on 5th September to recognize the efforts and hard work of the staff in this Stephenian community. Notes of appreciation for staff were displayed on notice boards to affirm these members of the staff who do make a difference in this school to help students balance study and play. The celebration in the hall kicked off with a compilation of the staff pictures which were superimposed into famous characters such as Ironman and Shrek. This provided a lighthearted and heart-warming moment for all. The staff was also treated to special performances put up by groups of students who wanted to show their appreciation and gratitude. The staff then proceeded to a scrumptious lunch at Fairmont Singapore. Here, the teaching and the non-teaching staff spent a great time bonding further with one another. This was a great way to celebrate the recognition of the wonderful work of the staff thus far!

Cyberwellness Week, 15 July Cyberwellness Week was commemorated on 15th July. The importance of online safety was further emphasised as Stephenians are becoming more IT savvy. Establishing positive online etiquette and being aware of the importance of safe-guarding personal information and files were some of the topics that were emphasised.

NE Show, 20 July The theme for this year’s National Day focused on “Many Stories, One Singapore”. This year’s celebration included a wide variety of new and exciting segments which kept the public on the edge of their seats. The “Floating Platform” came to life as the crowd performed the “Kallang Wave”. The aesthetically choreographed colourful performances displayed Singapore’s creative potential and talent. Lighting up the sky, the much anticipated fireworks escalated the celebrations to its peak and grandeur. It was truly an unforgettable experience.

Mayor’s Visit, 26 August On 26th August, it was an honour to have the gracious presence of Dr Mohamad Maliki, the Mayor of South East Community Development Council. The sharing and dialogue session with Dr Maliki benefitted Stephenian staff and students. It was an enlightening and unforgettable experience for Stephenians who had the opportunity to interact and engage in a fruitful conversation with the mayor.

Turning the Hearts of Children Towards Their Fathers – Breakfast with Dad’(13th April 2013) Father-child relationship is a significant factor in the emotional and cognitive development of a child. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This 2-hour workshop engaged the father and child in preparing and sharing a breakfast meal together, after which they participated in some experiential learning activities. The coaches from Centre For Fathering created an experience that was fun and impactful for both father and child.

SSS Amazing Race It was a morning of fun for staff who participated in the Amazing Race as they had towork in groups and travel in cars to get to different destinations after deciphering the clues given to them. They had to work as a team to complete some challenges set for them when they got to the various destinations. The race against time and ensuring accuracy in completing all the stations were especially thrilling. .

SSS Staff CIP @ Dignity Kitchen The staff visited the Dignity Kitchen as part of the staff Community Involvement Programme. The staff had the chance to interact with the elderly where they served lunch to the senior citizens, engaged in conversations with them and some of our staff even put up special performances to entertain them. Being able to put a smile across the faces of these group of elderly people was certainly heart warming.
