It’s yet another quarter part of the year has gone by.

Numerous activities have been taking place, and this Newsletter intends to update and keep you aloft to what we at PEN Tanzania have been up to.

Change Tanzania, this year’s annual forum and exhibition of the several social entrepreneurs was held at Karimjee Hall Dar es salaam. A number of speakers joined in together in a dialogue discussing on the theme ICT as a tool for education. PEN Tanzania was honored to be part of the two days session as a stakeholder and among the key speakers, some of the key speakers included; Dr. Jabir Kuwe Bakari who is the CEO of the e-Government agency and Vice president, Ms Maria Sarungi who is director at Compass communica-tions Co Ltd Tanzania and a communi-cation expert, Mr Mihayo Wilmore who is a Telecommunication and Information System expert in emerging markets in Africa, Sharnel Deo director from PEN Tanzania, Rechard Mabala from Tamasha among other.

MOLLY’s Network Assessment, a global network that has over 30 members in Tanzania, is an accrediting firm that carries its values basing on the global scale, connecting startup organizations to possible donors, training and numerous opportunities that may facilitate the growth and sustainability of newly established organizations upon reaching qualifying after the assessment.

PEN Tanzania upon securing an appointment, an assessment day was set and the necessary proceedings were done, results were later given, PEN Tanzania was accredited hence automatically making us members of the Network and gained access to memberbenefits such as capacity building activities, donor profiling among others.

Internal Organization Assessment;

Upon the completion of the assessment by Molly’s Network, PEN Tanzania staffs decided to have an internal strengthening meeting that aimed at rectifying the areas that were noted as weak during the review of the assessment.

Main focus was rewriting the formal office documents, and revising the different roles and duties of each member plus getting familiar with the PEN Tanzania for better Brand image and organization culture.

MOLLY’s Network Assessment

As a Media dialogue that took place on 29th, September 2016, “NIJALI” emanate as a continuation of SOS Children’s Village Global campaign “CARE FOR ME” focuses on children’s rights and protection issues world-wide. These dialogues have been implemented by SOS Children’s Villages- Tanzania & C-Sema. This year PEN Tanzania as an important stake holder was invited to take part in covering issues ranging from LGA/National Budget for Children.

PEN Tanzania also got an opportunity to be one of the keynote speakers in the forum that has is usually spon-sored by Reach for Change organiza-tion, whereby our director Mr Sharnel Deo did a presentation on how PEN Tz embraces technology in it’s daily activi-ties. On top of that, the forum was also used as a platform to launch Reach for change competition (TIGO Digital Change Maker) which are usually done on yearly basis, focusing on individu-als who use technology to solve social problems in Tanzanian community.

PEN Tanzania through its resourceful friends and well-wishers had an oppor-tunity of meeting URIDU founders and directors in September 2016. URIDU is a nonprofit organization with its headquar-ters in Germany, it focuses in empower-ing marginalized women in developing countries, and they are the developers of an audio book that intends to solve economic issues affecting women. URIDU is interested to work with PEN Tanzania in its economic empower-ment program through a pilot project in Zanzibar Islands starting early next year.

Media Advocacy Campaign;As a member of Tanzania End Child Marriage Network, (TECMN), PEN Tanzania will be taking part in post judg-ment activities towards the court appeal next year. Right now, PEN Tanzania will be hosting Radio programs as part of the media campaign. Main focus will be in Zanzibar Islands and Dar es Salam.

Entrepreneurship Training in ZanzibarPEN Tanzania in collaboration with Upendo means Love organization will be conducting entrepreneurship training later in October for women supported by Upendo organization in their tailoring department.Other events;- Internal capacity building training/Retreat for PEN Tanzania staffs in November- Gender Based Violence Week in November
