WESTERN SWIMMING & THE SMALL SCHOOLS PETER DOBSON RELAY SUCCESS
In a magnificent team effort, Zali, Macey, Abby Armstrong and Charlie
O’Brien blitzed the field at the Western Swimming Carnival in Dubbo last
week to take out first place in the Peter Dobson Relay event.
Sadly, the State Swimming Championships have been cancelled and we
will be left wondering what may have eventuated at the next level.
Congratulations to all our swimmers who recorded personal best times at
the carnival. Well done Angus, Gracie, Charlie D and Rose B in your events
along with Abby, Macey and Zali, who also qualified in breaststroke for the
state championships.
Thank you to all our parents
and friends who supported
our swimming squad!

MONSTER P&C RAFFLE
Thank you to all the parents,
businesses and community
friends who have kindly
donated a range of exciting
prizes for the Monster Raffle

MISS HANNAH RIVERS PERMANENT APPOINTMENT TO
CUDAL PUBLIC SCHOOL
It is with great happiness, pride and a tinge of sadness that I inform our
community that Miss Hannah Rivers was successful in her application
and interview for the permanent teaching position at Cudal Public
School commencing at the beginning of Term 2. Hannah has been a
valued member of our teaching staff for
over 2 years and she will be sorely missed
and difficult to replace. Hannah has
become an integral member of our team who has been prepared to
lead in many of the programs and initiatives at Cumnock Public
School. She has made a huge difference in the lives of our students,
colleagues, families and community members. Please join with me to
congratulate Hannah on her much-deserved appointment and wish
her every success in her future endeavors. We are proud that many
of our teaching graduates gain permanent positions and it is a
reflection of the outstanding opportunities available at Cumnock.
Congratulations Miss Rivers!
Life Education Van
Last Wednesday we were excited to welcome
Happy Healthy Harold back to Cumnock Public
School and welcomed Jess to the school to
deliver three exciting health and wellbeing
sessions. K/1 learned about being a good friend
and safety in the community, 2/3/4 focused on
the safe use of medicines and communication,
while the 5/6 students concentrated on respect and positive relationships both online and offline. All the
children were extremely excited (though perhaps not as much as Mrs Nelson) and behaved beautifully.
The learning experiences were engaging and delivered professionally and we look forward to the next
time we have a visit from the Life Education team.
HARMONY DAY AT CUMNOCK
Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. In schools we celebrate
inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for all Australians, from the traditional
owners of the land to those who have come from many countries around the world.
The ongoing theme of Harmony Day is ‘everyone belongs’. Harmony Day is a day of
cultural respect for all. By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and
understand how all Australians equally belong to this nation and enrich it. Orange is the
colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social
communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas
and encouragement of mutual respect. On Friday April 3 students may choose to wear
something orange to show their support.

Sadly the mighty Cumnock Show was
cancelled this year, but we embraced the
opportunity to exhibit our students’ talented
works at our very own Mini Show at school. Mrs
Brodie was kept very busy hanging and
displaying work in a number of sections in our
“Stem Pavilion”. Thank you to our community
chefs who supported the cooking entries last
week and our Judges and Chief Stewards for
supporting this inaugural initiative.

CUMNOCK P & C WORKING BEE
The hardworking and dedicated P & C members are excited about the
working bee to take place at the school on the weekend of the 18th and
19th April. We appreciate the extra loads that our parents and friends are
carrying presently, but are looking forward to all your support. There are a
number of activities planned including the construction of the new
adventure playground equipment and bike trail along with locating our
new Taj Mahal Chicken Coop in the playground. There will be a
free barbeque for all helpers! Please ring Ed O’Brien (0481 129 010)
if you are able to help on either of the two days!
STUDENTS DESIGN CUMNOCK BIKE TRACK
The Cumnock Master Plan commenced in 2015 and continues to
evolve and take shape in an ever-changing environment. The
students have made an important contribution to the future of our
playground and what it will look like moving forward. Over the
past 6 months students have worked hard on their bike and billy
cart trail designs, features and plans. These have been submitted
for discussion in collaboration with staff, community and parents.
During the holidays, the bike and billy cart shed will be constructed next
to the cricket nets. I would like to acknowledge the support we have
received from Andrew Gee, Member for Calare through the Local
Schools Community Grant, the P & C, the many community members
for their input, Cabonne Council staff and our Assets Managers with the
Department who are supporting this exciting development and
initiative.
We look forward to the completion of this first stage of
works in the coming weeks!
We welcomed Mr Andrew Gee, Federal Member for
Calare to our school last Friday to view the proposed site of
the Cumnock Bike and Billy Cart Shed. Our Cumnock
Public School Masterplan was developed in 2015 as a
means of providing a vision for the sustainability and
longevity of the school. The Bike and Billy Cart Project is the
first step in the wider Cumnock Multi-Purpose Precinct to
support and create a community recreational hub that we
anticipate will be utilised by all members of the community into the future. Thank you Mr Gee for
supporting the initial stage of this exciting project!
UNITING’S MOVIES UNDER THE STARS
Congratulations to the Uniting team from Dubbo who initiated the
Outdoor Movie Night and free barbeque for our community. Toy
Story 4 was a great success with many families joining together at
the Cumnock Recreation Oval on a perfect autumn
evening. The new oval is a credit to the
committee and maintenance
crew and a
wonderful space
for our community
members. We look
forward to another
outdoor movie in
the summer months!
