My Dear Rotarians,Warm greetings to you & your
family. This is my last message as President. Last year in July when I took up the Presidentship I was bit worried that whether I can justify my Post as President at the age of 36 years & also due to lack of experience? But Friends I will tell you, including Past Presidents all the members of Midtown gave me tremendous & consistent support which made me to enjoy my job. Few of my Rotarian friends used to tell me that you are the luckiest President. Yes of course, I was very lucky to have an excellent support from all the 75 members & their family. The entire Board stood with me at all times. On this occasion I would like to mention a few names of Rotarians who were there with me the whole year. I start with Past Presidents Rtn.Alagappan, Rtn. Azeezulla, Rtn. M.S.Nanda Kumar, Rtn. Raghu.M.S., Rtn.P.K.Ramakrishna, Rtn.M.N.Bheemesh, Rtn. Sunder Raja Rao & Rtn. Salil Kumar Das. Only because of these past Presidents the Rotary year 2011-12 was successful. Whole year they were with me guiding as and when it was required. I sincerely thank all of them. Other than Board Members there were a few Rotarians who stood with me for all the Projects & Programs. They are Rtn.Aiyanna, Rtn.Umesh, Rtn. Deepak Solanki, Rtn.Gopinath.K.S. Rtn.Harish.K.B. Rtn.Nagaraj, Rtn. Naveen Chandra.M.S., Rtn. Rakesh Babu, Rtn. Sunanda Patra, Rtn. Raju Baliga, Rtn. Ravindra Babu & Rtn.K.J.Ramesh. I immensely thank all of them for their endless support.
My Board members extended their support whole heartedly throughout the year. President Elect. Rtn. Vishwanath.R.S. & Vice President Rtn.Bhanu Chandran were like my lieutenants. They never made me to feel that I am alone. All the five Directors Rtn.Srivatsa, Rtn. Kumarswamy, Rtn. Manoj, Rtn. D.Srinivasan & Rtn. Dr. Raghu have done a commendable job. Our Joint Secretary Rtn. Narendra Babu & Seargent at Arms Rtn. Gopal chipped in with their support whenever it was required.
REACH WITHIN........ COMES TO AN ENDRAAGHU AND VENKY TO SIGN OFF TODAY
Whole Year I never had any problem with club finance that is because it was with none other than Treasurer PP Rtn.Sunder Raja Rao.
Important portfolio was Editor of About us Rtn. Dr.Prahlad, a gentleman with a smile of responsibility, without giving any trouble to me the bulletin used to get ready every week.
Last but not the least our Club's Hon. Secretary a great philanthropist Rtn. Venkatesh. There are no words available in my dictionary to explain his dedication, commitment, discipline etc. Throughout my life I have not seen such a kind person. Once again I immensely thank all my Board Members, Past Presidents, fellow Rotarians, Inner Wheel President Shama Milton, Secretary Vimala Nagaraj, Inner Wheel Members, Anns & Annets. Due to oversight & space constraint I might have missed few names which is not intentional. I wish to carry sweet memories of my year as President of this vibrant club throughout my life. Once again I thank you one & all. Thanking You,

Dear friends,
“There is no limit to what a man can achieve as long as he does not care who gets the credit”
Bob Woodruff, American television journalist
It's been really an exciting year- not because I was the editor of About Us, but because I was the Editor under the President Raaghu. I need not elaborate on this issue because you will read in this issue people raining praises on Raaghu. Simply put, Raaghu took the whole club along with him and he really reached within to embrace his fellow Rotarians. He kept principles simple, uncomplicated and stunned stalwarts in Rotary. Ably supported by Venky, the darling of Midtowners, the pair will definitely go down in the history books of Midtown as “Ram-Laxman” of Midtown. Thanks Raaghu-Venky, may your simplicity, straightforwardness, sincerity be the benchmark for future leaders to follow, you have been truly inspirational to all of us.
Isn't it amazing as we pull down the curtains to one glorious year another invigorating year unfolds? Rtn. Vishwa who with his unmatched charisma has a big fan following in whole Mysore Rotary circle including our AG Joseph Mathew. And we all wait with lot of curiosity and excitement. Expectations are too many but Vishwa is one who is not going to be bogged down by such hypes. He is here to deliver “Peace through fellowship” true to its objective. All the best Vishwa. I am again lucky to be part of his board also.
Finally it's time to bid adieu. It's time to pen my last few lines as the Editor- About Us. My second stint as the editor was as interesting and exciting as my maiden year during Bheemanna's tenure. Raaghu's continuous activity throughout the year kept me busy and inturn I kept busy many of the fellow Rotarians by requesting them to contribute to the Bulletin. All of them gave an unstinted support and I express my heartfelt thanks to each one of them. Now I pass on the baton to the next Editor Rtn. Srinivasan who is closely following my footsteps and when he steps into my shoes he outshines me. Truly said about Seenanna “Once you accept someone for what they Really are… They Really surprise you by being better than you ever expected.” So dear friends, behold for one more year of more colourful, more entertaining, more informative About Us, which reaches more readers through virtual world. All the best Seenanna- I promise my unconditional support for your efforts. Rtn. Dr. K. A. Prahlad

EMBRACING MIDTOWNERS –
RAAGHU STYLE
“The reach within to embrace
humanity” year 2011-12 has ended
with a bang! Congratulations to the
Youngest rotary club president (in
the district?) Rtn Raghavendra and
team.
True to the theme, president Raghavendra looked
within, within midtown and with his smile pushed
everybody in performing service in all the avenues
of service.
It's very special for me as the club donated almost
$20000 to the rotary foundation, as committed
By President Raghavendra .
Three cheers to Raaghu & Venky and team 2012
Ramki

SIMPLE & EFFECTIVE
MANAGEMENT LESSONS FROM
RAAGHU AND VENKY'
Rotary, though a Service
Organization, is considered by
outsiders as a Social Organization
for the Elite. This was my impression
of Rotary as well when I joined
Midtown six years ago. Though my first couple of years
were very interesting, the last few years I started
feeling a little uncomfortable and also contemplated
quitting the club. But, once Raghavendra took over, one
started feeling the positive vibrations and the
excitement coming back into the club. And the so
called Elite Club became a place for commoners like me
and you. All this was done in the most unassuming and
simple way. All credit to the smiling genius of the
President Rtn. Raghavendra ably supported by the
Secretary Rtn. Venkatesh. If ever there was a lesson
in 'Simple but Effective Management' it was this year
and the Gurus were Raaghu and Venky. Kudos to both
and to all the board members for making this such a
memorable and successful year.
Vishwa, you have a task on hand to keep the pot
boiling and we are sure you will do well. Here's wishing
Raaghu and his team accolades for the great job done
and the very best of luck to Vishwa and his team for
the year ahead.
Farooq-e-Azam
The year with Rtn. Raghvendra at
helm of office has been very very
fruitful and successful. I have been
reading all events and it makes
me feel so-- good and proud .His
personal touch , friendship and
fellowship along with hard work,
perseverance and determination has
brought laurels to the club. I bow to
him and his team for the wonderful work done to the
society. There were many innovative programmes during
the year which makes him and his team very outstanding.
The bulletins were so--- meticulously done covering each
event precisely with panache. I wish the club many more
success. To continue their inputs and advise in the coming
years making the club more of a family .

THE ROTARY YEAR 2011-12
Our President Raghavendra,
what to say, a person who is highly
motivated, diplomatic and always
smiling is no doubt the man of
midtown of this year. He had from
the installation to his president's
dinner period, had kept midtown
vibrating and rocking. Kudos to him. The jewel in the
crown was the best club award to midtown after a very
long gap. I hope the rich experience he has gained in
this year will be of immense help to him in his business
and family. It was a great opportunity given to me to be
the part of the Board of midtown and I thoroughly
enjoyed this Rotary year. Once again I congratulate
president Raghavendra for successfully leading
midtown in the year 2011-12 and wish him a great
career in Rotary in the years to come.
Rtn.R.Sundarraja rao
While Raghavendra, his team
and the entire club is basking in the
glory of becoming the best club in
the district, I am awed at the
phenomenal achievement. Looking
back at little less than a decade, two
youngsters pipped as budding
entrepreneurs were introduced to
the club, one was a cricketer and the other was not.
Midtown marched to Moodbidre for district
tournament and a l ong came the s i l ent ,
modest, humble, jovial, smiling newbie - the first time I
had close interaction with Rtn.Raghavendra, he then
moved up the echelons of Midtown and became a part
of the board several times before becoming the
secretary, and then the big one as the "President" of
the club, meet Rtn.Raghavendra Sadashiva Shastry. It
is worth looking at the factors contributing to
Raghavendra's successful term. Primarily, being a
businessman, he knew how to handle people and
situations. He took into confidence his entire team and
worked meticulously. He was ably guided by past
presidents and supported well by fellow members .
Having said that, one should not forget the initiatives
the team took in rebuilding the club block by block,
each step cautiously taken towards taking the club
back to its glorious self. Of course, support by club
secretary Venky was one of the biggest factors in
reaching the milestone.
It is often heard that Midtown is unparalleled in
the entire district, the club is abundant with talent and
resources. Raghavendra successfully tapped into both,
talent and resources. It is not just because the team
won the first place that everyone is praising, it is
simply because there was considerable planned efforts
behind the projects and meetings during the year.
Before the reading gets boring, midtown now has the
youngest past president who in his inimitable style says
"I am 37 years and have become a past president, I will
be called onstage for at least 30-40 years during
charter nights !!!!" -Raghavendra, you deserve it.
"Veni,Vidi,Vici".... he came, he saw, he conquered.
Rtn.Dr.Prahlad completed his second stint as
the editor of "About Us" successfully, congrats Doc!!!.
Heartiest congratulations to all. Proud to be a
midtowner.
Rock
My hearty congratulations to
the President Rtn.Raghavendra
and the Secretary R.Vengatesh
for receiving the Best club award.
The day I met Raaghu for the first
time, I was sure he would make a
good President. He and Venkatesh
have made my predictions and
dream come true. But Raaghu
needs not this praise, for him,
Presidentship or Governorship in Rajanikanth's style it is
“jujube”, Avaruke best politician award sikuthe.
My family joins me in wishing him all the best. God
bless Raagu and his family

I would like to write something
about our dear RAAGHU. Since 8
years of Raaghu's friendship I
have never noticed any changes in
him, the same soft smile, the most
spontaneous rep ly for any
comments or arguments . His major
strength is his perseverance. He is a
man of planned action.
When it comes to ROTARY, as a president he is
very successful. Major advantage he got was the
secretary VENKY......... WAH WHAT A PAIR!
RAAGHU has taken mid town to greater heights. In
all meetings he use to find humour in every moment and
has done all the meetings memorable. Hats off to
Raaghu and Secretary Venky (motte) and of course all
the board members who have supported him the whole
year -mid town hip hip hurray!!!
Rtn. Ravindra Babu
The Rotary Year 2011-12 has
been a glorious and an eventful year
and of course well recognised . All
a p p r e c i a t i o n t o p r e s i d e n t
Raghavendra and his team for the
commendable s incer ity and
dedication. This year will be
remembered for a long time to come
and will be quoted on many occasions. It is usually
understood that the President is ought to be under
pressure and his remarks and comments are therefore
well taken. But here was a person who was never heard
of using any rude words or hurting anyone. Instead he
carried on his responsibilities so smoothly with a smile.
In Raghav's own words, “ one has to be very careful
in what to talk and how to talk”. He showed it to us that
this is not a saying but can be demonstrated. We have
lot things to learn from him. But I still wonder where
he let his pressure out. Rtn. Sunanda Patra

Historic Moments: Why the Rotary year
begins 1 JulyRotary 's f i rst
fiscal year began the day after the first convention ended. The convention of the Rotary Clubs of America was held in Rotary's birthplace, Chicago, in 1910
Ever wonder why the Rotary year begins 1 July? The i n t e r n a t i o n a l
convention initially played a key role in determining the start date of our fiscal and administrative year.
Rotary's first fiscal year began the day after the first convention ended, on 18 August 1910. The 1911-12 fiscal year also related to the convention, beginning with the first day of the 1911 convention on 21 August.
At its August 1912 meeting, the Board of Directors ordered an audit of the International Association of Rotary Clubs' finances. The auditors recommended that the organization end its fiscal year on 30 June to give the secretary and treasurer time to prepare a financial statement for the convention and board, and determine the proper number of club delegates to the convention.
The executive committee concurred, and at its April 1913 meeting, designated 30 June as the end of the fiscal year. This also allowed for changes to the schedule for reporting club membership and payments. Even The Rotarian changed its volume numbering system to correspond to the fiscal year (beginning with vol. 5, July 1914).
Rotary continued to hold its annual conventions in July or August until 1917. Delegates to the 1916 event in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, approved a resolution to hold future conventions in June, mainly because of the heat in cities where most of them occurred. The next one was held 17-21 June in Atlanta, Georgia.
The term "Rotary year" has been used to signify Rotary's annual administrative period since at least 1913. An article in The Rotarian that July noted, “The Rotary year that is rapidly drawing to a close has been signalized by several highly successful joint meetings of Clubs that are so situated as to assemble together easily and conveniently.”
Since the executive committee's decision in 1913, the end of the Rotary year has remained 30 June.

JokeAfter just a few years of marriage, filled with
constant arguments, a young man and his wife decided the only way to save their marriage was to try counseling. They had been at each other's throats for some time and felt that this was their last straw.
When they arrived at the counselor's office, the counselor jumped right in and opened the floor for discussion.
“What seems to be the problem?" The wife began talking 90 miles an hour describing all the wrongs within their marriage.
After 15 minutes of listening to the wife, the counselor went over to her, picked her up by her shoulders, kissed her passionately for several minutes, and sat her back down. Afterwards, the wife sat there speechless.
He looked over at the husband who was staring in disbelief at what had happened. The counselor spoke to the husband, "Your wife NEEDS that at least twice a week!" The husband scratched his head and replied… "I can have her here on Tuesdays and Thursdays."
