    Message from the Chair

MEET THE MEDIUMS We have three resident mediums here at the centre who offer Private Sittings on a daily basis, at a

time to suit you. Contact us on 0131 625 0700 to book your sitting. Cost: £35 per half hour

    EWAN IRVINE

Ewan is a Medium working in the UK and

    Ireland.

As a child, Ewan experienced many strange

happenings that could not be explained

logically. It was only at the age of 19 that he

began to realise that he had the ability of

    mediumship. Having developed these abilities,

he became a regular demonstrator of

mediumship within the UK and Ireland.

Ewan also has a great interest in the

paranormal and has used his mediumship

    ability within many haunted locations.

Ewan has also appeared in a number of TV

productions including Most Haunted Live and

    ITV’s Tough Gig.

Ewan is a qualified hypnotherapist and has

also written a number of articles and co-wrote

the book " The Wee Book O'Scottish

    Mindfooness " with fellow hypnotherapist

    Susan Cohen.

    YVONNE CRAIG

Yvonne is a member of the Edinburgh

    Association of Spiritualists Church, based

here in the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre.

She is a psychic and medium and has been

very fortunate to have trained for some 15

years with many of the top tutors at the

    Arthur Findlay College, Stansted, Essex.

    Yvonne currently teaches a beginners

awareness class at the church, and serves

many churches throughout Scotland as well

as giving spiritual readings and assessments

    here in the centre.

It is Yvonne’s privilege to be able to bring

    comfort and upliftment through Spiritual

readings to those seeking to reconnect to

their loved ones and proving survival.

    ANN TREHERNE

Ann comes from Edinburgh, the birthplace and

hometown of Arthur Conan Doyle and is Chair of

    The Centre.

Like Arthur, Ann is a Psychic Investigator and

long-standing member of The Scottish Society for

    Psychical Research.

As well as tutoring in Meditation, Psychic and

    Mediumistic Development, she also trains

Psychic Investigators and Researchers. In her no

    nonsense approach, she advocates

investigation via scientific and analytic means.

When undertaking Private Sittings, Ann works

with the sitter in a sensitive manner to bring help

and comfort to those in need.

Ann is currently writing a book about her

experiences and when not directing operations

at The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre, she travels

nationally and internationally giving talks and

running training courses on Mediumship, Psychic

Investigations, and of course, on Arthur Conan

    Doyle.

    MEDIUM AVAILABILITY

Ann Treherne— Wednesday Evenings and Thursday’s

Ewan Irvine— Wednesday Afternoon’s (or by appointment)

    Yvonne Craig— Monday Evenings

Summer is almost upon us and The Centre is gearing up for the frenetic activity of

The Fringe and the wealth of international visitors and performers that it brings. We

have a varied selection of performers with us again this year - see page 5 for details.

Before that however, we celebrate the fact that we are host to some of the best

    mediums in the world - on 20th May, Paul Jacobs will be back with his 5 day Course;

in June, Gordon Smith's School of Intuitive Mediumship runs its second module of the

Foundation Course and in July Tony Stockwell is conducting a course on Trance,

something I know is very popular for those wanting to take their mediumship that

step further. Tony is also giving a demonstration of mediumship on Saturday, 8th July

    - something not to be missed!

As we head towards the Autumn we've given you a sneaky peak at some of our

speakers in our Tuesday Talks series, which is growing more popular and attracting a

regular audience. Also, we have some new Mediums to The Centre in our 'Affordable

Workshop' series. See page 4 for more information.

So, I hope we have given you food for thought and we look forward to welcoming you

    to some of our events.

Interview with Paul Jacobs In an exclusive interview with Rose, Marketing and Events

Coordinator at the centre, world renowned medium Paul Jacobs sits

down with us to tell of his first experience with spiritualism, how he

dealt with it growing up, and gives us some tips on what to expect if

you’ve never been to a demonstration of mediumship before. You

can access this interview in full via our website.

Can you tell us a bit about your background. Where are you

from and how did you get involved with Spiritualism?

I’m from Wolverhampton originally and it was Wolverhampton

Spiritualist Church where I first entered a Spiritualist Church. I had

moved into temporary home premises connected to my work and I was

having all of these weird and wonderful, strange objective experiences

that scared the living daylights out of me. Then a few days later I was

walking down a road and came across a building I’d walked past

countless times saying Spiritualist Church and I thought I’d go in and

see what’s going on. When I went in the medium on stage turned out to

be my great aunt. 6 weeks later I had a phone call from her asking if I

was still attending, and she invited me to go to Gordon Higginson’s

church and meet him which meant nothing to me, but of course he was

the president of the Spiritualist National Union, principle of the Arthur

Findlay College, and the finest medium in the last 100 years. 6 weeks

later my aunt died. Gordon Higginson was due to take the funeral

service, he called me over to sit with him and said ‘I can help you young

man’ and that was the beginning of my journey with mediumship.

Do you recall having a specific first encounter that made you

realise you might have a talent for it?

I always had experiences as a child which I would tell my parents about

but they just said it’s your imagination. When I would go to bed, I would

say there’s a gentleman in the room or a lady in my bedroom but they

would just brush it off as my imagination. Then in my later teens I

moved into an old property and I would be aware of this gentleman who

it turned out used to live in the place but had gone to the spirit world. I

just kept putting these experiences to one side, I didn’t actually think it

was me being a medium, I thought it was just the places I was going or

had been. Then before I was going to the Wolverhampton Church I was

having very strong experiences, I would hear objectively my name being

called and I would dive under the bed covers and say ‘go away, I don’t

want to speak to you’, and I would see lights shooting across the room.

I found it quite scary and I didn’t understand coming from a Catholic

background, there’s a negative aspect taught from orthodox religion so

I thought it was something negative when actually it was the spirit

world trying to give me that push to do something about my

    development.

When you feel a spirit there, what is the sensation?

There’s not one set of feelings, sometimes it all depends what faculties

they’re using at the time. If you’re using your clairvoyance and

clairaudience, the clairsentience drops down a bit, or sometimes you

hardly get any clairvoyance or clairaudience and then the

clairsentience gets stronger. But if you get what I call a real soul to soul

blending because the emotion is the base point, then in a way you

become that person, you become the essence of them and what

they’re experiencing emotionally, mentally and physically. I often say to

a recipient at times when it’s really strong - that the love and desire of

the person from the spirit world communicating to that individual - that

if you could feel what I could feel from them for you, it would mean far

more than any evidence that I could give you, it’s very diffi-

cult to put in to words. This is a problem with medi-

umship, more and more mediums need to accept and

acknowledge that no medium is 100% accurate. It’s not

possible. Our conscious mind interferes. We have to inter-

pret those feelings and emotions, we also have to inter-

pret those clairvoyant pictures and we can make mis-

takes. I’m honest when I do demonstrations, especially at

demonstrations with non-spiritualists. I’ll say before I start

‘No medium is 100% accurate’. If more people went with

that approach then it would be better, and more accepta-

ble. As receptive as I am at that time I never know from

one communication to the next how receptive I’m going to

be, what type of evidence, how I’m going to receive it, dif-

ferent communicators from the spirit world you blend easi-

er with than others, and even a recipient isn’t always a

good recipient, they can make or break the communica-

tion. So I think it takes all 3 ingredients; the recipient, me

and the communicator to play their part right for that con-

tact and communication to really build and unfold.

For people who are attending a demonstration for

the first time, what can they expect and what

    would your advice be?

Quite often a large percentage of my audience have never

been to a demonstration before so I try to explain to them

how it works; the mechanics of it. I also try to explain that

it is quite natural, that we’re not calling up the dead or

disturbing them, if you’re loved ones come to communi-

cate they come because they want to, because you are

here. If they didn’t want to communicate then as a

medium there is nothing I can do about it. People do have

fears, but it is often down to lack of education,

misunderstandings negativity that has been taught

through certain religions and through media platforms.

There are still very limited spaces left for Pauls course on

20th-24th May and 23rd-27th September. Call now to book.
