Message from Editor
Department newsletter ECE TALK is a platform for sharing educational information, activities and events related to
the ECE Department. I hope that the newsletter will provide useful and relevant information. It is the intent of the
department to make it an biannual publication to keep in touch with the departmental activities and achievements.
This is a platform to share information and you can participate by sharing your thoughts on the Departmental
activities or by contributing information on the events that you have organized.

M1: To adopt effective teaching methods in order to maximize knowledge dissemination for students.

practical scenarios.
M3: To provide state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities to the students and faculty members by creating a

PEO1: To analyze and design appropriate Electronics and Communication systems to provide solutions that are
technically advanced, economically feasible and socially acceptable.
PEO2: To produce Electronics and Communication Engineering graduates with sufficient Breadth in electronics
and its related fields enabling to work in multidisciplinary environments.

AWARDS & ACHEIVEMENTS
Award
Mrs.R.Suganthi Assistant Professor, ECE received “Best research paper award” for her Paper titled as
“Direction Oriented Forwarding through minimum numbers of edge nodes (DOF-MEN) protocol for
manets” in SEISCON 2013 organized by KCG College of Technology, Chennai on 12th – 14th December
2013.
Fifteen students of 2009-2013 batch, secured University level ranks at State level, among the Anna
University affiliated colleges.
Ms.Jency. J of 2009-2013 batch, secured fifth University level ranks among the Anna University affiliated
colleges.
Mr.Samuel D.Raj, received First prize for his project in the National level ‘Science for the Society’
competition in the year 2013.
Ms.Deepika S of final year ECE is appointed as project associate in IIT –Madras.
S.Jeethandran won the First prize in the Symposium Paper Presentation event on 01.10.2013 at SRR
Engineering College, Chennai.
B.Lavakumar won the First prize in the Symposium Paper Presentation event on 01.10.2013 at SRR
Engineering College, Chennai.
B.Lavakumar won the First prize in the Symposium Paper Presentation event on 01.10.2013 at St.Peter's
college of Engineering and Technology, Chennai.
Seminar Grant
AICTE has sanctioned a sum of Rs 2,00,000.- as a seminar grant for the event PITECE RoboTryst-2013'
during the year 2013.(Ref: F.no:7-177.RIFD.SG.POLICY-1.2013-14, Dt. July 26, 2013).
Funded Projects
National Institute of Technology (NIOT) sponsored Rs.8,00,000 .- for team VYUHA, that won the National
Competition on Student Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (SAVe 2012) to participate in the 15th
International RoboSub competition organized by Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International
(AUVSI) and US Office of Naval Research (ONR) at the U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems
Centre (SPAWAR) TRANSDEC Facility in San Diego, California, USA during July 2012.
Tamil Nadu state council for science & Technology (TNSCST) has sanctioned Rs. 10,000.- for the project.
"DSP based voice for physically challenged people" during the year 2013 (Ref: Lr.no
TNSCST.SPS.AR.2012-1213).

Consultancy Project
Project on “Defence Camp Security System Using GSM” for “Chase Technologies ” of Rupees Seventy
five thousand four hundred and fifty was started by Mr.L.Ashokkumar, Assistant Professor, Grade I

EVENTS ORGANIZED
IEEE-SB Inaugural function
Inaugural Session of the IEEE (Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers) Student Branch at
Panimalar Institute of technology was held on the 30th December 2013 at the Conference Hall, Panimalar
Institute of technology by Mr. T. S. Rangarajan, Chairman, IEEE Madras Sectionin the presence of Dr.
T.Jayanthy, principal ,PIT, Dr.M.P.Chitra,HOD.ECE & Dr.S.Sankar, HOD.EEE. The function began with
the invocation. Ms. Leena M of III ECE welcomed the gathering.
Mr. T. S. Rangarajan, Chairman, IEEE Madras Section, inaugurated the PIT IEEE SB chapter and
addressed the student. On his Inaugural speech he explained student benefits and exposed the student
resources available at platform of IEEE. He also mentioned importance of being part of any society and
how it may help us in our future endearments. He caught everyone’s attention with his beautiful examples
of why students should become members of IEEE and how they will be benefited from it and the important
aspects of networking through such a large organization. Mr. M.Arun, AP.ECE & Student Branch
Counselor PIT introduced the office bearers for the year 2014.
Faculty Development Training Programme
FDTP on VLSI Design was conducted during 18.11.2013-24.11.2013. Mrs.V.Jeya Ramya, Associate
Professor coordinated the event. Multiple resource persons from various institutions delivered during the
course. Various faculty members participated and gained knowledge.
Industrial Visit
Fifty Seven students of Final year visited Radio Astronomy Center, Ooty on 21.6.2013.
Seventy Eight students of Final year visited Bio Tech R&D Lab- Yercaud on 12.7.2013.
Sixty Five students of Third year visited Bio Tech R&D Lab- Yercaud on 5.7.2013.
Eighty two students of Third year visited Solar Observatory, Kodaikanal on 5.7.2013.
Sixty Five students of Third year visited400 KVA substation, Sriperumbudhur on 8.7.2013.
Eighty two students of Third year visited400 KVA substation, Sriperumbudhur on 9.7.2013.
Sixty two students of Second year visited All India Radio, Chennai on 22.7.2013.
Seventy students of Second year visited All India Radio, Chennai on 25.7.2013.

Short Term Course on Image Processing & Its Applications for IV ECE students was conducted during

Guest Lecture on Adaptive filter and its applications for III ECE students was delivered by Mr.Senthil,
Director, Jasmine Infotech, Chennai on 04.10.2013.Mrs.V.Jeya Ramya, Associate Professor coordinated
