It’s been very hectic since the last edition of fresh with Valentine’s Day

followed by Easter then Mother’s Day to keep us on our toes but perhaps

there’s just a window of opportunity to draw breath before the wedding

season is here again. Or did it ever leave? Probably not so we’re bringing

you the latest in wedding designs from Europe and you’ll be refreshed by

the originality of Lucy Hutton Smith’s work.

Lucy is one of the newest UK OASIS® Ambassadors and has been a florist for

twenty-four years so she knows what makes customers happy and how to keep

them inspired. She’s a teacher, demonstrator, product adviser and in-between

Lucy has even made time for a baby, “I love working with Smithers-Oasis

because their products are great and they are as passionate about selling quality

floristry as I am!”

If you’re surprised by some of Sally’s fresh alternatives to the traditional wedding

bouquet you’ll be even more amazed at how our next generation of florists are

creating designs for this year’s Designz Cup competition. It was launched at the

Sydney Royal Easter Show in March and students are going wild over ways of

portraying our theme of Dancing with Bling.

See pages 8 and 9 for interpretations

of everything from Belly Dancing

to Ballet as well as something so

unexpected I’ll leave it to you to

investigate. Along with being very

creative students do an excellent job

at remaining inside the conditions of

entry and allowable space meaning

this becomes a fair event across all

states and for all participants.

very impressed by the

number of enthusiastic

entrants so far. We’d

hoped to be able to also

include Queensland in this

issue but unfortunately the

event took place right on

our publishing deadline.

This means we look

forward to bringing you the Sunshine State along with South Australia, Western

Australia and Victoria in the next issue of Fresh.

Finally we hope that you enjoy the versatility of some of the new products

More and more couples are opting to tie the

knot at specialist wedding venues. Whether it’s

an intimate family occasion or a large reception

the same attention to detail is essential for this

day to be remembered by everyone.

Creating special chair decorations for the bride and

groom at the ceremony or reception is a great way

to draw attention to the nuptial duo.

Starting with a firm base for the chair decoration is a

florist’s primary concern and the OASIS® Ideal Floral

Taking customers out of familiar territory can be difficult and brides are no exception. Generally this is because their concept of a bridal

bouquet is often guided by what their friends’ have carried or what

they’ve seen in magazines. Florists need to guide and coax the bride

into the unexpected if they’re looking for something original and a

portfolio of styles accomplishes this. Pictures will enable the bride to

visualise what is possible.

Twelve entrants danced into the first leg of the Designz Cup on Easter Sunday in Sydney and there was plenty of bling to be seen. Competition was very tight

and Alan Randell-Smith was fortunate to be accompanied by David Berger

movements of the dancers that

inspired the design; swirling,

sliding and wrapping around

the pole - very suggestive and

sensual but still so graceful!”

“I thought of many types of

dancing but Pole Dancing stuck in

my mind because it’s so popular

these days as an exercise for

fitness. It seems like such a short

time since it was risqué, naughty

and performed by beautiful women

wearing not a whole lot except some

spangly, sparkly ‘costume’.”

Jodie hastened to add, “Although

the schedule called for us to

recreate our ‘favourite’ dance I

have never tried, or seen, any

live pole dancing!!”

Romance oozes from this heart shaped bridal bouquet and every bride

This could become the most popular design of the year by capturing the essence

of love with an OASIS® Lady Heart Bouquet Holder. An edging of Sisal, Decorative

Wires and Beads surround the heart shaped centre with its strong clusters of Cerise
