The basics:

The signing took place on October 26, 1994. It occurred at the Arava Valley(in Israel, near Jordan).

The signing made Jordan the second Arab country to normalize relations with Israel, Egypt being the first.

King Hussein and Yitzhak Rabin signed the document, Bill Clinton wasthe witness.

The treaty is composed of a Preamble, thirty articles, five annexes,and agreed minutes.

Israel and Jordan did not have good relations from theDeclaration if the State of Israel in 1948 until the treaty was Signed in 1994.

U.S. President Bill Clinton persuaded King Hussein to negotiate peace and sign a treaty with Israel.

In July 1994, a public meeting was held at the White House, where PrimeMinister of Jordan declared an “end to the age of wars” and Shimon Peressaid that “the moment of peace has arrived.”

The Treaty was signed October 26, 1994 in the Arava Valley in Israel. It was signed by Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Prime MinisterAbdelsalam al-Majali.

The signing was witnessed by President Bill Clinton and U.S. Secretary ofState Warren Christopher.

The Israeli Public embraced the treaty and looked forward to the historicmoment.

Egypt approved of the agreement and Syria did not acknowledge it.

Hezbollah disapproved of the treaty and shot rockets into Northern Israel20 minutes before the signing.
