Airports Authority of India Sports Control Board
(AAISCB)
Airports Authority of India Sports Control Board (AAISCB) is responsible for the
promotion of sports and welfare of meritorious sportspersons in India. AAISCB
every year adopts meritorious sportspersons under its Sports Policy e.g. Contract
Scheme and Scholarship Scheme. AAISCB has its nine constituent boards within AAI
to look after the sporting activities. While AAISCB is headed by a President i.e.
Member (HR), the other constituent Boards are headed by Regional Executive
Directors in Five Regions, Airports Directors at Chennai and Kolkata, Principal,
CATC at CATC, Allahabad and ED (Admn) at CHQ Delhi. Presently Dr. Guruprasad
Mohapatra, Chairman, AAI is the patron of AAI Sports Control Board.
In 2016-17, AAI engaged in all 136 sports-persons out of which 41 were under AAI
Contract Scheme and 95 were under AAI Scholarship Scheme. The sports-persons
during this period pursued their specialised sport and AAI assisted them in the form
of financial assistance. AAI fields its team in national tournament/championships
conducted under the aegis of following national federations:
a) Table Tennis Federation of India
b) Badminton Association of India
c) Chess Federation of India
d) Kho-Kho Federation of India
During the year 2016, 16 AAI sportspersons excelled in team events as well as
individual events nationally and internationally.

AAI team participated in the Senior National Badminton Championship held at Chandigarh from 5th to 10th April, 2016. The AAI Team reached in the finals for the first time and was adjudged the Runner-up.

On a request by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) with which AAI Sports Control Board is affiliated, AAI conducted the prestigious 46th All India Inter Institutional Table Tennis Tournament at Jaipur from 24th to 29th July 2016. 18 organizations participated in the Men's Team Event, 11 organizations in the Women's Team Event and four organizations in Youth Boys and Youth Girls Team Event. Apart from the team e v e n t , M e n ' s S i n g l e s / D o u b l e s , W o m e n ' s Singles/Doubles and Mixed Doubles were also conducted in which players from various states also participated. AAI, which has in its ranks some of the most promising young players of the country, participated in all the events. This tournament is the second most important National Table Tennis tournament in the country after the Senior National Table Tennis Championship. All leading players of the country participated in the event including those who represented India at the Rio Olympics namely Sharath Kamal, Soumyajit Ghosh, Mouma Das and Manika Batra. AAI Men's and Women's Team finished second in the team events losing to Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), a composite team of Public Sector Oil Companies. The Youth Girls Team won the Youth girls team event defeating Petroleum Sports Promotion Board while the Youth Boys Team lost to the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board and finished second. In view of being finalists, the Men and Women team qualified for the Senior National Table Tennis championship to be held in Gurgaon while the Youth Girls Team in view of
being the Winner qualified for the Junior and Youth Nationals to be held in Surat. In the open events, AAI's Ronit Bhanjha and Ayhika Mukherjee finished behind G Sathian and Ankita Das of PSPB in the Mixed Doubles Event. The men's singles was won by G Sathian of PSPB, Women's Singles by Suthirtha Mukherjee of West Bengal, Men's Doubles by Sudhanshu Grover and Abhishek Yadav of PSPB and Women's Doubles by Mouma Das and K Shamini of PSPB. The tournament was inaugurated by Shri Ramcharan Bohara, Hon'ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) in the presence of Shri Rakesh Kalra, Regional Executive Director (Northern Region), Airports Authority of India ; Shri B. K. Tailang, Airport Director, Jaipur and Shri Dhanraj Chowdhury, Secretary General, TTFI on 24th July, 2016 while Shri Anuj Agarwal, Member (HR) and President, AAISCB was the Chief Guest at the Closing Ceremony in which Shri P. C. Chaturvedi, IAS and President, TTFI , Regional Executive Director, AAI, Northern Region and Airport Director, Jaipur were also present. The execution of the tournament was appreciated by one and all and the credit goes to the Regional Sports Control Board (Northern Region), AAI, Sports and Cultural Committee, Jaipur Airport and the officials of the Table Tennis Federation of India for looking after the minutest details to make the event a highly successful one.

Achievements of AAI Team in National Tournaments
AAI Badminton Team participated in the All India Inter Institutional Badminton Tournament conducted by the Department of Atomic Energy at Mumbai from 28th to 31st, August 2016. The AAI team won the Mixed Team Event beating LIC in the Finals thus qualifying for the Senior National Badminton Championship to be held at. In the open events, AAI players won the Women's Singles, Women's Doubles, Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles while finishing second in the Men's Singles.
O n b e i n g g r a n t e d provisional affiliation by Kho-Kho Federation of India, AAI Women's Kho-Kho Team participated in the Women's event of the Senior National Kho-Kho Championship held at Nagpur in October 2016. The team performed outstandingly well and finished second behind Maharashtra.
