Dear Friends,
The city of Buenos Aires has much to celebrate in October 2010. Not only will it receive the
participants of the 36th ISPAD Annual Meeting, but it will be the first ISPAD Meeting to be
held in Latin America. In 2010 Argentina is celebrating its 200th anniversary as an inde-
pendent state, and the whole country will be enjoying the lovely southern hemisphere’s
spring season. Argentina and Latin America are very proud that Buenos Aires has been
chosen as the venue for this Meeting.
Prestigious speakers are coming from all over the world, from both emerging and first
world countries, creating an atmosphere of understanding. Two hemispheres will be
working together and sharing their knowledge and experiences helping us to comprehend
different realities. It is our desire that not only information, but also cultures will interact
to bring better understanding among us.
We hope all nations to be present, and we also hope that you can find a relaxed atmosphe-
re that Buenos Aires and the presence of Latin American affection can bring you.
The Scientific Programme will provide great opportunities to learn and discuss new infor-
mation concerning diagnostic and therapeutic developments as well as cutting edge data
in several fields of diabetes research and care: new and exciting advances in the fields of
prevention and management of diabetes and all its interrelated factors.
Another fundamental aspect that makes this meeting unique is that it will have simul-
taneous English - Spanish translation thanks to the kindness of the whole Assembly, a
kindness all the Spanish speaking community really appreciates as it allows them to share
opinions more smoothly. As this will be a multidisciplinary meeting for pediatricians, nur-
ses, nutritionists, psychologists and other members of the health group, they will all have
the opportunity of attending general and special sessions.
Optimal diabetes care requires an integral approach and an active collaboration between
all health professionals. This partnership will enable us to meet our common goal: to en-
hance the lives of children and adolescents with diabetes.
Buenos Aires is waiting for you!
On behalf of the Organizing Committee
Yours sincerely,
Welcome Message from the Conference President

Travel Grants
Standard Travel Grants
All delegates submitting an abstract may apply for
travel grants during the abstract submission process.
Requirements: 40 years of age or less, ISPAD member (all
dues paid), first author of an abstract. For applicants coming
from South America the grant amounts to 600 USD, for North
America to 900 USD and for those from outside of America the
travel grant amounts to 1,500 USD. Travel grant awardees still
need to pay registration fees and need to arrange their travel
and accommodation.
Developing World Initiative Travel Grants
Special travel grants will be awarded to delegates coming from
non-high income countries (see the World Bank list at http://
go.worldbank.org/D7SN0B8YU0 for reference; currently<
11,456 USD p.a.). To allow more time for travel planning and
visa applications, these travel grants do not require an abstract,
but those who have submitted one will be prioritized. They
include economy travel, housing and free registration.
Applications must be sent to the Secretary-General with a CV,
stating your current position and work for children with dia-
betes. There will be an application fee of 50 USD, which will be
returned upon arrival in Buenos Aires. The deadline for these
travel grants is March 15th, 2010.
ISPAD 2010 welcomes the submission of abstracts for ori-
ginal contribution to the field. All abstracts submitted will
go through a blind, peer-review process carried out by an
international review panel. Each abstract will be reviewed
by at least two reviewers and the final selection of abstracts
will be completed by members of the Abstract Review Com-
mittee.
All accepted abstracts will appear in their full form in the
abstract book, which will be issued as a special supplement
of Pediatric Diabetes and on the abstract CD-ROM, which will
be available at the conference.
Guidelines
• Abstract submission opens March 2nd, 2010. Visit
http://2010.ispad.org for more details and to submit.
• The deadline for abstract submission is midnight Central
European Time (CET) on June 1st, 2010. Abstracts will not
be accepted after this date.
• All abstracts must be written in English.
• All abstracts must be submitted online through the confe-
rence website at http://2010.ispad.org. Abstracts sent by
fax, post or email will not be considered. It is the author’s
responsibility to submit a correct abstract. Any errors in
spelling, grammar or scientific fact will be reproduced as
submitted by the author.
• The text should not exceed 2000 characters, including
blanks. One table or figure can be inserted allowing 500
characters per table/figure.
The text of the abstract should briefly state:
• Objectives: Indicate the purpose of the study or the hypo-

the diagnosis or intervention, and the type of statistical
analysis. If references are needed, they should be provided
in the text.
• Results: Present as clearly as possible the outcome of the

“results will be discussed“.

We take diabetes personally,
for a lot of very small reasons.
Lilly continues its commitment to helping children with diabetes and their families deal with their daily journey by providing innovative solutions, including treatments, new devices, education, and support.
In addition, Lilly and its employees are actively involved in programmes such as Life for a Child. These programmes provide insulin, supplies, and diabetes education for children in developing nations, helping them survive and thrive in the face of extreme poverty. And, we will continue to partner with IDF, developing and pursuing programmes that focus on improving care for children around the world.
As the number of children with diabetes grows, our determination grows. We will remain dedicated to doing whatever it takes to make their journey a successful one. One child at a time. Your journey inspires ours.
