HealthMoves (right) from Ottawa:HealthMoves is a wearable medical devicethat provides continuous feedback onrecovery to patients and health careproviders following an injury. Sports injuries,joint replacements and strokes impairmobility, require physical therapy, decreaseindependence and lead to social isolation.HealthMoves enables patients to visualizetheir recovery over time through a web app.It also instills motivation in them topersevere with rehabilitation by includingtreatment and recovery gameplay andchallenges. Healthcare providers can accessdetailed sensor metrics of patient recoverycustomized for each injury. 

Experify Health (left) from Ottawa:: anaccessible facility-based platform to combatsocial isolation. Their mission is to bringindividuals together to make lives better inretirement homes, long term care homes andhospitals. Their solution will easily identifyuser interests, automatically book events andguide users to events within the facility. Theplatform is intended to be straightforward,secure, accessible, and ideal for the youngand old. User data will provide insights intothe interests and needs of residents andpatients and will help drive improveddecision-making.

Neighbour (right) from Waterloo: A market-based platform that connects people in needof someone from their own community thatcan help them. It is built upon the corefoundations of creating repeatedconnections, facilitating mobility, andsignificantly improving communityinterconnectedness. The applicationconnects a person with the service they needand by also encouraging them to provide aservice they’re skilled at to gain a sense ofpurpose. This ultimately fosters a moretightly knit and trusting community. 

M-bracelet (left) from Waterloo: KineticConnection has developed a prototypedevice (the m-bracelet) and phone app(kinetic connection) which transmits thesense of touch from person to person. Thedevice was created to establish a presenceover a distance so that families canconnect in a direct, non-verbal and caringfashion. Once devices are linked, eitherside can initiate communication. Thereceiver can receive and reply in a directway, by phone or bracelet, without needingto open their phone or use fine motorskills. Should the receiver open the app,they can see a picture should the sendersend one via their camera. The sensationstransmitted by phone and device havebeen designed to be gentle and act toreduce anxiety.
