It is our pleasure to invite you to the 18th International Symposium on Microbial Ecology - ISME18, taking place in Cape Town, South Africa, from 9-14 August 2020, and to take advantage of this biennial gathering of microbial ecologists from all around the world.

ISME 18 is the most important global conference focusing on microbial ecology in the environmental, medical and biotechnological fields. It is a driver of methodological developments for the study of microbial communities with cutting-edge field- and laboratory-based methods and bioinformatics. ISME18 features numerous scientific sessions convened by global leaders in their fields, poster sessions, roundtables and networking events. The conference is expected to bring together around 1800 scientists from all continents, many of them being research directors and decision makers in their home institutions. They will share and advance their scientific knowledge, by presenting their latest findings and enhancing their collaborations on a global scale.

Taking place in Cape Town, ISME 18 will also strive to address regional and national issues at hand while also supporting early career scientists, in particular from the African continent, by distributing attendance and travel grants.

The impact of this meeting cannot be underestimated. By providing a unique opportunity to highlight, to a world audience, Africa’s contribution to research in an important field, and expose African researchers to many of the world leaders in microbial ecology, and to provide a vehicle for many new visitors to South Africa, and potential clients. We envisage several tangible legacies related to this meeting. This meeting will aim to attract African Scientists from across the continent. Depending on sponsorship, these delegates will also receive full support to attend the ISME Meeting. Secondly, we will organize several events linked to publicizing the field of Microbial Ecology to the wider community. We will host a “Night of the Microbes” event which will be open to members of the public. We envisage that the training events linked to the ISME meeting will have several broader impacts for African researchers.

A relaxed program scheme of ISME18 and the spatial arrangement of poster areas, spaces for tea breaks and the exhibition area, and plentiful networking events guarantee ample opportunity for contact between exhibitors and delegates.

Interested in learning more? Our sponsorship packages in this brochure offer you a range of opportunities open to your specific needs and wishes to ensure your required level of visibility at ISME18.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you at ISME18 in Cape Town.
