ISLANDMAGEE COMMUNITY NEWS AUTUMN 2012 Community Web Site Islandmagee Community Development Association has been awarded considerable EU funding for the construction of a Community Website. The aim of this project is to focus attention on the area by creating a digital community hub and by doing so to promote the Recreational, Business and Social life of the community and the general health and wellbeing of its residents. The Web Site will also give us an effective method of reaching out to those from outside of our borders, world wide, who have an interest in this area. Our web site will be www.islandmageecommunity.org It will take some time to construct the site and to accumulate the necessary information to enable us to go on line. In the meantime we would appreciate your suggestions and advice on what subjects and other material you would like to see carried. Send your ideas and comments to our secretary at [email protected]. or by post to Hon. Secretary, Islandmagee Community Development Association, 1 Island Village. Islandmagee, Larne, BT40 3AL. News Sheet The proposed new web site will not result in the termination of our quarterly news sheet but will supplement it. The News Sheet will continue to be published for as long as there is a demand for it. The Web will, however, bring a number of advantages to our information dissemination activities. The site will allow us to communicate with a wider audience. Also, it will facilitate a speedier method of putting information out to you. Often we are in receipt of information of interest to our area between News Sheet publications and, by the time of the next edition, it is out of date or has passed its “sell by” date. We can post such material on the web immediately on receipt. FREE You can contact the ICDA by email at [email protected] or to our Secretary at 1 Island Village, Islandmagee. Community Directory Over the past years Islandmagee Community Development Association received funding on three occasions for the publication of a community directory. The three editions produced to date have been well received and found useful by the community. Unfortunately, when done in booklet form, the information goes quickly out of date due to a number of circumstances. People cease to trade or to be responsible for social or recreational activities and new people add to or replace them. It is not cost effective to re publish every time there is a change. The current Community Directory is now well out of date and requires updating. The creation of a Web Site makes this possible and has the advantage that entries can be edited as and when the occasion demands. ICDA has, therefore commenced work on rewriting the directory. We will be in touch with those who placed entries in the last edition to check that their entries are still accurate and required. We would welcome anyone who would wish to be included as a new entry to contact us at [email protected] or by post to 1 Island Village, Islandmagee, Larne, BT40 3AL. What we need to know is the nature of your business or activity, contact name and contact details (Eg. address, phone, email etc.). Your entry to the Community Directory will be free of charge. Creating a new community directory is the first stage in a process and when completed we will then look at its development through the placement of cost effective advertising and people being able to link their Web Sites to this one.

Benefit EntitlementsEvery year millions of pounds in benefits go unclaimed in Northern Ireland. Are you getting all that you are entitled to? Benefits are not a charity, they are anentitlement.North Antrim is running a programme called MARA through which you can

receive a visit, in confidence, by trained staff who will review what you arereceiving and identify if you are missing out on something. Quite often if you arein receipt of one benefit it can open the door to other entitlements. Would you, or someone you know welcome a visit to review yours or their situation?Households being targeted in this programme are ethnic minority, elderly peopleliving alone, carers, disabled, farming families, low income families, lone parentsand older people.

To see if you are eligible for a visit, to discuss details of the scheme or to arrange for a visit contact North Antrim Community Network at 028 21771155 or 21772100 and ask for Liz or Susan who will be pleased to help and advise you.
