An Introduction to the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI)

The SCI, a descendant of the former Department of Public Statistics–affiliated to the Ministry of the Interior – began to work in 1965 as a professional institute

The SCI is affiliated to the Vice Presidency for Strategic Planning and Supervision


An Introduction to the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI)

The Statistical Centre of Iran is the major supplier of statistical information in the country

Since establishment, the SCI, as the sole authority of the national statistics, has been continuously working to accomplish its mission in the best possible manner in order to promote the statistical awareness

The Centre annually conducts as many as 30 statistical surveys

Mission of the SCI

Taking general censuses and sample surveys on social and economic issues

Providing required statistics to meet data needed for

planning and development programs

Developing and maintenance of statistical frames

Processing, analysis and dissemination of surveys results

Compilation of national accounts and price indices

Providing statistical concepts, definitions, standards and

classifications in accordance with international recommendations


Hosting ECO events in the field of statistics: First meeting of the Heads of the ECO

National Statistical Offices on 28-29 January 2008 in Tehran

First meeting of the ECO High Level Expert Group (HLEG) on statistics on 26-27 October 2008 in Tehran

Implementation of ECO Plan of Action on statistics


Establishment of the ECO Statistical Network (ECOSTAT)

Proposed by the SCI in the 1st HNSOM Presentation on the ECOSTAT by the SCI:

Preparing a consolidated report based on the metadata reports from three member states (Turkey, Pakistan and Iran) in 2001

Providing Metadata for statistical items of the ECO key indicators and ECO socio-economic indicators in 2009


Preparation of Roster of Leading Experts in Statistics

Proposed by the SCI in the 1st HLEGM on Statistics in order to benefit from existing expert capacities of the region

Currently, Roster of Leading Experts of the SCI is available on the ECO website


strengthening of balance of payments statistics on ECO trade

Importance of trade balance statistics for ECO Updating and improvement of intra-trade statistics

(table 24 from ECO Key Statistical Indicators) Feasibility of providing intra-trade statistics in

quarterly or monthly bases Collecting data on balance of payments for

services Cooperating with other ECO related directorates

Office of Administrative Registers is responsible for register statistics in the SCI

organizing register statistics (registration, transferring, processing, presentation)
