Rath Yatra 2011

Sunday 12th June was extra special as it was

the day of Ratha yatra; where Lord Jagannatha,

Baldev and Subhadra, after recovering from their

cold, go out of the temple on a procession from

Hyde Park to Trafalgar square.

After months of planning on the morning of the

12th volunteers set up marquees at Trafalgar

square and set up the Rathacarts at Hyde Park.

Although the sun didn’t shine this year the

devotees still danced in ecstasy for the Lord.

A special thanks to Bhakta Vinay and Bhakta

Dhaval for coordinating with RY team &organising quality help needed for the Ratha

yatra, and a special thanks to all those devotees

for taking part despite the wet weather.

Rathayatra 2011 ki jaya !!!

Te fair was a nice experience many people were

attracted to our stall and kirtan.

On the Sunday we were approached by one man

who was very complimentary. He said out of all the

stalls our stall was the most attractive, colourful

and happy. He went on to say that he is an atheist.

Festivals

The London Green Fair,Regent’s Park

Te London Green Fair was a free festival that

reects the green aspirations and achievements

of London as a whole, as well as providing an

enjoyable and engaging day out for people from

all walks of life.

We applied to have a stall six months ago, and

three weeks before the festival started we had

conrmation that our application was accepted.

All the wonderful work of Bhakta Kartik.

On the weekend of the 4th and 5th we had two

full days of fun preaching in the park. Sri Rangavati

devi dasi, Lavanga Latika devi dasi and Bhaktin

Petra volunteered to set up the stall.

Te weather was warm with a strong breeze.

Te stall was nice and colourfully decorated. Te

amazig kirtan attracted so many people. Devotees

came from West London and Soho street came to

take part.

Maha Sankirtana Festival On the Saturday the 25th the Soho Street was

blessed with a Maha Sankirtan Festival.

With Vaisesika dasa in town, the devotees took to

street for an all day festival. Many members of the

public were attracted by the book distribution

and harinamas that went on all day.

UniversityChaplaincy Event For the rst time, we hosted a monu mental event

at the Bhaktivedanta Manor which attracted

over 30 university chaplains from multiple

universities across London. It was a particular

honour to welcome the head chaplain for London

universities, Reverend Stephen Williams.

Te chaplains were treated to a full day of activity,

including discussions on the welfare of London’s

student population, tours, cow milking, mantra

meditation and a sumptuous feast.

Te event was administered by Sachi Kishore,

Gopal Lila and Saunaka Rishi prabhus, with guest

appearances by Kripamoya prabhu and Sruti

Dharma prabhu of Bhaktivedanta Manor.

Te event proved to be a huge success, allowing

chaplains from across London to not only

appreciate but to experience a taste of ‘Hindu’

culture to better equip them with the tools

necessary to administer to the needs of students

under their care.

Debate

Te group also held discussions around the topic

of dreams and material nature, utilising clips from

the popular movie Inception.

Lila kirtan

Finally, a new event was launched this month,

when Sundara Nitai dasa and our Youtube

sensation ‘Ben Loka’ presented the rst KC

Lounge lila kirtan event. Te pastime of Prahlada

Maharaja held a captivating hold on the group,

and this night proved a huge success, attracting

around 20 guests.

KC LoungeTe Friday Programme attendees enjoyed a range

of activities during June.

Te main events are highlighted below:

Cooking workshop

Based on previous successes, another cooking

workshop was held this month, attracting around

25 guests.

Te group was taught various recipes and trained

to oer prasad. Te evening was a huge success

and received many repeat requests.

Kirtan night

Te group was also treated to a wonderful even-

ing of kirtan with their favourite maestro Radha

Londonisvara dasa.

Promotion

Furthermore, the month of June saw the launch

of our KC Lounge website to better integrate and

promote our group.

Cooking workshopat Imperial Te rst cooking workshop was held at Imperial

College, and the event proved a great success, not

just on the day, but also in the relationships and

ambitions nurtured as a result of the success.

Te other university chaplains at Imperial were

so impressed with the outcome of the event that

discussions are now underway to expand this

programme into a regular event at the college.

Bhagavad Gita CoursesFurther to the success of previous discourses,

the Yoganet School sent two separate classes of

15 students each to the Iskcon Soho centre for

introductory courses on Bhagavad Gita.

As per previous sessions, the groups were further

treated to arati ceremonies and prasadam, with

many students purchasing books and submitting

their contact details for further communication.
