✻ Remember to drink enough water before and afterbathing. It depends on the person, but most peoplesweat about 600-900 ml during and after bathing.

SENTO EtiquetteThe public bath is a place used by many people. It is not like the bath in your own home, and therefore certain rules apply.

Remove all articles of clothing in the changing room before entering the bathing room.Take a shower before using the bath.No towels or other items in the bath.The bathing room and the bath are not for doing laundry.Dry yourself off before moving from the bathing room to the changing room.

Before you go… Ishikawa Sento ŌkokuDid you know…Many of the first owners of sento were originally from Ishikawa prefecture. From the Edo period to the Meiji period, many people moved to the Kansai and Kanto areas to open sentos. There was an especially large number of people from Ishikawa operating sentos in Kyoto and Osaka. “Ishikawa Sento Ōkoku” means Ishikawa “Kingdom of Sento” to show respect to the first sento owners who established the sento culture.Even today, the sento is still a place of relaxation for local residents.
