Dear ISHCMC community,
We saw many excited faces happy to be back at school this past Monday
with plenty of engaging learning opportunities, including grade 2s voyage to
a magical storyland and where they used deductive reasoning to poison the
evil villain Timrek. Here at ISHCMC, parents were treated to an information
session on reading courtesy of our KG teachers and students participated
in ’Pink My ISHCMC’ by wearing pink to raise awareness of breast cancer.
Finally, our basketball teams both won their games against AIS (boys won
20-12 while our girls came out on top 20-8). Well done everyone!
Electronic sign-up for ASAs finished this week and will continue for confer-
ences until November 1st. Thank you for your patience with this process
and apologies for inconveniences caused by our new online system. Our
SRC is planning a Halloween dress-up on November 1st with another dress
-up taking place shortly after for our character parade (Nov 8th). There will
be a number of activities taking place throughout the week to highlight
books and literacy in general; for more information, see our article on page
3 of this newsletter. Have a great weekend!

Some people might know about the passion projects. As most students know, passion pro-
jects is for you to have the chance do anything you like, 20 percent of the time. Some Teach-
ers agree to do the passion projects, but not all of them. I like doing the passion project be-
cause you can do what you want to do, for example teaching little kids gymnastics, making a
movie and lots more. Passion projects have a way of helping us realize that it’s not the money
that counts, it’s how you want to
live your life. I want to tell you a
little story about a banker. It start-
ed when he was small and every-
one around him told him he must
be a banker and make lots of
money and he will be happy.
Years past and he was a very rich
banker. He earns 1 to 2 million a
year but he wasn’t happy. He
loves making things with lego.
Everyone said, “Stop making stu-
pid legos.” He didn’t stop doing
what he loves to do but he was so
afraid of people laughing at him
he and hid his wonderful art
works.
Soon he start showing people and
everyone liked it and even want to
buy it. He quit his job and he now
Sell lego statues even though he
wouldn’t make that much money.
The important part of this story is
that you are happy with what you
do. -Venus

These old plastic cups can be reused to make something beautiful like this
When we use these old plastic
cups we can make something
really cool like this and we can
use these sculptures for decora-
tion. When people recycle these
cups they help the environment
because they reuse the cups in-
stead of throwing the cups in the
trash bin. Don’t throw them in the
trash bin but throw them in the
recycle bin

4 Nov to 8 Nov is Reading Week at ISHCMC. To prepare we have some lovely events:
-Book Swap: Bring up to 5 books to the Achievement Centre next week and during Book Week you can trade them for books.
-Morning Rallies: Each day will start on the football pitch with something to get us all thinking about books and reading (drop your students off here!)
-Character Dress-up Day: Friday 8 November dress as a book character and join the special assemblies
-Home Language Read-in: During Lunch on Wednesday 6 November we will have parent and teacher volunteers reading with students in different languages (encourage your chil-dren to join the read-in fun)
-Door decoration, big book and 55 word story contest (the 55 word contest starts this week.)
55 Word Contest: Can you limit yourself to story in JUST 55 words? Encourage your child to give it a try and submit a 55 word story to Claire Simms by Monday 4 November at 3 pm).
Make a Difference In Someone’s Life
Once in Oklahoma, there was a girl named Eliza-
beth, her sister Mary, didn’t care to think about
what she was saying she didn’t make sure that
her words were:
Truthful
Helpful
Inspiring
Necessary
Kind
She never really cared. Elizabeth asked Mary if
she wanted to go to the orphanage to help and
donate, but Mary said no. Elizabeth said, “Just
this once” she pleaded and Mary finally said yes.
At the orphanage Mary met this girl named
Amanda she was suffering from hunger and
thirst, Mary felt bad about it but she would never
say it out loud. She and her became friends but
she told Elizabeth and Elizabeth was so happy
for her. She and Amanda were the best of friends
but one day, Amanda grew sick, and Mary want-
ed to do something about it (for once) but she
didn’t tell Elizabeth she saved up as much as she
could to help Amanda once she had saved
enough, she gave it to the orphanage to help
Amanda, she eventually got better and Amanda
said, “you made a big difference in my life!” Eliza-
beth was surprised the next day because Mary
had changed BIG TIME!!! And Mary said, “You
can make a difference in someone’s life if you
tried.”
THE END
At ISHCMC we had a cardboard play date and
all the grades from EE2/3 to grade 3 all got to
play the games and all of them were at least
made of cardboard! This was inspired by a kid
named Caine who made an arcade out of card-
board.
4A, 4B, 4C, and 4D had games to provide and
they were fun. This was to use their imagina-
tions and not just use computer games all the
time. Most cardboard games had prizes, mem-
bership cards, stamps and lots of other stuff.
But some games didn’t really work, but they
were fun. Grades EE2/3 to grade 3 got to play
these wonderful games including lots of bowl-
ing, whack-a-mole, basketball, pin ball, claw
machine, archery, and a puppet show and oth-
er fun games.
Congratulations grade 4 you all did a wonderful job!!!!!
