friends, learning to work together and having respect for

All children ages 3 to 5 m
ay participate in the program. Tiny Tots does not
discriminate on the basis of race, religion or sex. A
ll children must be toilet trained.
Tiny Tots will do its best to provide service to children w
ith special needs. A parent
conference will be requested to assure that your child can be best served by our
program. Tiny Tots serves preschoolage children not yet attending kindergarten.

The child’s first day at class can be a very special occasion. Many children look
forward to this first day of school and join in class activities eagerly. H

cult situation by recognizing that the adjustment to

During “opening and free choice tim
e” parents and children will be encouraged to
walk around the classroom
to see the various learning centers open for the day, prior to saying goodbye. Parents m
ay help children focus on an area of interest beforesaying goodbye. Som
e parents and children prefer to separate at the classroom door.
The “opening time” is a tim
e when children gather together and say hello to
classroom friends, m
eet the “Star of the Day,” talk about any birthdays for the day
and listen to announcements.
“Free choice” time incorporates a variety of learning centers. Creative and project
art, dramatic play, blocks, sensory exploration, language and literacy, m
ath, scienceand discovery, large and sm
all motor activities and skill developm
ent. Theseactivities are also included throughout the day.

Tiny Tots will not be held w

Tiny Tots will operate during its regularly scheduled tim
es regardless of early releasedue to an em
ergency at another school.
Once a child has arrived at Tiny Tots and there is an em
ergency school closing, theparents w
ill be called. The imm
ediate concern will be the safety of the children,
therefore children may be transported to a place of safety in extrem
e situations.
Every effort w
ill be taken to provide makeup classes cancelled due to an em
ergency.H
owever, ISD
191 Comm
unity Education reserves the right to cancel class without
refund if it is not possible to schedule a makeup class.

ing health procedures when enrolling in
the Tiny Tots program.
• Children entering the program w
ill need a complete physical or current health
statement signed by the doctor. The health form
is due by or on the first day the childattends the program

unizations for your child must be logged on the form
.
• Children who are sick w
ill not be allowed to attend class. The child should be kept
at home if the child has a tem
perature of 100 degrees (orally) or 99.5 degrees(axillary), upset stom
ach, diarrhea within the last 24 hours, undiagnosed rash, or,
signs of a fresh cold, neck swelling, extrem
e tiredness, discharge from eyes or ears,
sore throat or profuse nasal discharge.
• Parents will be notified if their child becom
es ill at Tiny Tots. Until you arrive, your
child will be in the care of an adult.

Prescribed and over the counter medications, including suntan lotions (w

hen it is absolutely necessary. The parent/guardian will be requested
to get written perm
ission from the doctor for longterm
medications that need to be
administered for longer than 10 days. In m
ost cases we suggest parents try to
rearrange schedules in order to administer m
edicines at home before or after class.
Parents should always give the first dose of any m
edication in order to personallyobserve their child’s reaction. Parents w
ill be notified if hives or unusual rashdevelops during the course of adm
inistering medicine.
If medications are needed during class (including EpiPens), parents m
ust bring them
edication in the original prescription bottle and complete a m
edication form that
includes the name of the prescription, w
hy the prescription is needed, what tim
e them
edication should be given and how m
uch medicine to give the child.
The medication form
is available from staff
and must be com
pleted for each newm
edication. Staff w
ill keep medicines in a place inaccessible to children.
In case of accidental poisoning, medical em
ergency personnel will be consulted and
parents/guardian will be notified.P

Pets will be allow
ed on the site for sharing or other special occasions that warrant
visits by pets. Prior approval by the teacher is required. In the event that a dom
estic pet visits the site, all parents of children with allergies w
ill be informed.

it amphibians, i.e. turtles, snakes to be allow
ed on site.
