0. FOREWORD
0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Insti- tution on 12 October 1970, after the draft finalized by the Textile Floor Coverings Sectional Committee had been approved by the Textile !>ivision Council.

1. SCOPE
1.1 This standa.rd lays down the procedure of packaging of carpets, hand-made or tufted, in the form of roils or baies.
2.1 In cabe the earpets are not mothproofed, the carpets shall be sprin- kled un&&rnly with suficient quantity of insecticides before packing t@fn m rolls 01’ bales.
2.1.1 For packing carpets in roll forms, roll the carpets widthwise with the face inwards. In case more than one carpet is to be packed in the same roll, these should be rolled one over rhe other. The weight of the roll shall preferably be within 200 kg.
NOTE - In case of big rolls of carp&e, wind t.hem on paper cores of adequete wall thicknese and strength.
2.1.2 For packing carpets in bale form, fold each carpet separately to the size of the package and stack the folded carpets one over the other. The weight of the bale shall preferably be within 200 kg.

2.2 Packing Materials
2.2.1 The packages shall be wrapped with the following materials in the order indicated below:

2.2.2 The packing materials shall be of sufficient size to completely cover the package with adequate overlapping. The two layers of medium hessian shall be tightly stitched with jute twine with distance between the two adjacent stitches not more than 5 cm.
2.3 Every package shall be provided with ears for lifting it. The ears shall be formed in the following manner:

After wrapping the roll or bale with polyethylene film, strong strips of hessian ( about 15 cm wide, with slight twist ) shall be tied securely around the roll or bale at every 1 m distance along the length, each strip going once round the package as tightly as possible and then securely tied with a reef knot.
Two strips of hessian ( each about 15 cm w_ide and about 60 cm length, with slight twist ) shall be passed under each strip tied earlier around the package and shall be tied with reef knot in such a way that these are located diametrically opposite to each other.
The package shall then be wrapped with two layers of hessian and the free ends of strips mentioned in (b) above, shall be brought out by piercing the two layers of hessian. The holes in the hessian layers shall be hemmed to prevent fraying.

3, MARKING
3.1 The packages shall be neatly stencilled in indelible ink with the following information:
a) Name of-contents;
b) Gross weight, tare and net weight;
c) Consignees’s name, initials or trade-mark;
d) Destination; and
e) The legends ‘ USE NO HOOKS ’ and ‘ MADE IN INDIA ‘.
