The ECO Mark shall be administeredby the Bureau of IndianStandards(BIS ) under tbe BIS Act, 1986 as per tbe Resolution No. 71 dated 20February 1991as published in the Gazetteof the Government of India vide GSR85(E)dated21 February 1991. Fora product to be eligiblefor marking with theECO Mark it shall also carry the Standard Mark of BIS for quality besidesmeeting additional optional environment friendly ( EF ) requirements, The EFrequirements for nigerseed oil are therefore being included through anamendment,

Cass. which grows to lome extent in mAny States in India andhu attained considerable importance as an oilseedi P in Madhya Pradesh,Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Mabarashtra and the C mota Nagpur plateau.The nigeneed is known indigenously as RAAITIL ( JIr fttw) or SURGlr.A(~). The oil is used principally for edible pW\':lOSes and the require­ments Cor the oil have been so prescribed in this staudard u to meet thepurpose.

1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard prescri~s the requ-irements and the methods of samplingand test for nigerseed oil.

2. TERMINOLOGY2.1 For the purpose of

lthis standard, the definitions given under 2 of

1S : 548·1964 Methods or Sampling and Test for Oils and Fats (Revised),and also those given below shall apply.

2.1.1 Refined Nigerseed Oil -:- Nige~seed oil obtained by the proce~sof expression or solvent extracnon which has been refined by neutrals­zarion with alkali, bleached with bleaching earth or active carbon orboth, and deodorized with Iteam, no other chemical agents being used.

Z.1.2 Semi-refined Niger,eed Oi/- Nigerseed oil obtained by the pro­cess of solvent-eatraction which hal been neutralized with alkali.

3. TYPES AND GRADES

3.1 The material shall be of the following type. and grades:

a) E%pre",d

b) So/,en' ExtrDcled:Refined Grade,Semi-rdined Grade, andGrade 1 (Raw).

3.1.1 The semi-refined grade and the grade 1 (raw) of the solvent­extracted type are suitable for making VAN.A.SP.4TI and refined oil,and are not for direct edible consumption.
