Irresponsible human economy has led to considerable changes in the natural environment. The biggest effects of human pressures on the marine environment according to The First Global Integrated Marine Assessment: (2016)
• Climate change (ocean acidification, changes in salinity, sea-level, ocean heat content and sea-ice coverage, reduction in oxygen content, changes in ultra-violet radiation)
• Mortality and physical disturbance of marine biota• Inputs to the ocean (toxic and radioactive substances, endocrine disruptors,
waterborne pathogens, plastics, explosives, excessive nutrient loads, hydrocarbons)
• Demand for ocean space (alteration of coasts and seabed)• Underwater noise (from shipping, sonar and seismic surveys)• Interference with migration from structures in the sea or other changes in
routes along coasts or between parts of the sea and/or inland waters• Introduction of non-native species

Let’s do something
The aim of The Project Ocean is to stimulate the members of our society and businesses to protect our Planet consciously and actively correspondingly with the scientic knowledge.
On 5 December 2017, the United Nations proclaimed a Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, to be held from 2021 to 2030.
Learn more
This Decade will provide a common framework to ensure that ocean science can fully support countries’ actions to sustainably manage the Oceans and more particularly to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
We can fly to the Moon, but will we be able to we save our treasure?
The Decade will provide a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to create a new foundation, across the science-policy interface, to strengthen the management of our oceans and coasts for the benefit of humanity.
We have to try!
On the basis of UNESCO guidelines we set up a platform to connect social initiatives related to the protection of the aquatic ecosystem with the scientific knowledge and financial support.
At first sight, the platform will support the 14th Sustainable Development Goal. However, we need to remember that oceans and the water economy have the direct and indirect impact on all aspects of our life so it will fill the whole 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Decade will mobilise resources and technological innovation in ocean science needed to deliver key societal outcomes:

We want to engage in those 6 goals ocean challenges - individuals and business.
How is it going to work?
1.We find six corporate partners ocean challengers - one for each challenge.
2. We contact ocean-related organisation, institution as well individuals that are willing to share their skills in order to create an active ocean-community .
Together we will create a business coalition for the ocean environment.
3. We set up an online platform The Ocean Project with description of challenges.
We are looking for changemakers with sollutions to describe their ideas in prepared forms.
4. The Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IO PAN) evaluates the application in terms of scientific validity and importance.
5. Together with challengers and partners we choose the best projects to be conducted.
All of them receive a feedback with a decision wheter they enter the Project Ocean.
6. We monitor the realisation of the projects. This doesn’t mean only controlling but also constant connection to the ocean-community and its resources.
Benefits for originators (changemakers)
• Focusing on the local initiatives that have little chances to get support from another sources
• Direct contact with a sponsor who will support specific actions• Opportunity to increase the scope of the action thanks to
platform’s promotion• Encouraging the virtual community to take part and support
similar projects• Faster realisation of the project

Benefits for challengers and partners
• Easy access to the base of projects waiting for support, tailoring to the company profile
• Authenticity – projects address local society needs and members’ personal stories
• Building one’s brand based on a modern CSR tool
