    IronSync Server is a powerf/l file synchronization server providin# m/ltiple types of periodicand real'time file synchronization operations. IronSync is a hi#hly scala6le file synchronizationsol/tion especially desi#ned to effectively synchronize h/#e file systems containin# tens ofmillions of files. sers are provided with m/ltiple one'way and two'way file synchronizationmodes8 periodic and real'time file synchronization capa6ilities8 ' ail notifications8 error lo#s8file synchronization statistics reports8 etc.

    IronSync is optimized for modern hardware architect/res and is capa6le of effectively /tilizin#m/lti'core C! s and m/lti'C! servers while synchronizin# millions of files in real'time. -nthe other hand8 IronSync Server is especially desi#ned to r/n on prod/ction servers /sin# avery small amo/nt of the system memory 9 :'$ :; and C! reso/rces in order to minimizethe performance impact on r/nnin# prod/ction applications.

    IronSync Server r/ns as a service in the 6ac #ro/nd and provides a client < I application8 acommand line /tility and a we6'6ased mana#ement interface allowin# one to control8confi#/re and mana#e one or more IronSync Servers locally or thro/#h the networ . The /ser

    is provided with the a6ility to set/p m/ltiple file synchronization commands8 specify excl/dedirectories8 synchronize specific types of files8 c/stomize error recovery options8 ena6le errorlo#s and=or send ' ail notifications when a sync command fails d/e to a hardware pro6lem.

    2 Product Installation Procedure

    IronSync Server is especially desi#ned to 6e as simple as possi6le. The prod/ct does notre>/ire any third'party software applications and may 6e installed and confi#/red within aco/ple of min/tes. , f/lly f/nctional 3+'days trial version of IronSync Server may 6edownloaded from the followin# pa#e? http?==www.ironsync.com=downloads.html .

    The installation pac a#e is very small8 : ' " : dependin# on the tar#et operatin# system8and the prod/ct re>/ires @/st 2+ : of the free dis space on the tar#et server. In order toinstall IronSync Server8 start the set/p pro#ram8 select a destination directory and press theA0extA 6/tton.

    -ptionally8 enter c/stom server control and=or we6 access ports. The server control port is/sed 6y the IronSync client < I application and the command line /tility to connect to theserver and the we6 access port is the port for the we6'6ased mana#ement interface allowin#

    one to control IronSync Server /sin# a standard we6 6rowser. If IronSync Server sho/ld 6econtrolled remotely thro/#h the networ 8 ma e s/re one or 6oth of these ports are open in theserverAs firewall.

    IronSync Server provides a n/m6er of different types of periodic and real'time filesynchronization commands with each one optimized for different needs and /sa#e scenarios. ,specific file synchronization command type sho/ld 6e selected for each newly created filesynchronization command. In order to add a new file synchronization command8 press the

    men/ item.

    The A#dvanced A ta6 allows one to control the n/m6er of parallel file synchronization threads8the n/m6er of parallel directory scannin# threads8 the performance mode and the filesynchronization preview mode8 which may 6e /sed to test advanced file synchronizationoptions 6efore exec/tin# file synchronization operations on prod/ction data.

    The AO$tions A ta6 provides the a6ility to control which meta data is synchronized when filesare copied from one directory to another. In addition8 the /ser is provided with the a6ility toena6le the 6it'level file synchronization option for any file synchronization command. 5ith thisoption ena6led8 IronSync Server will compare and /pdate individ/al data 6loc s in files thatsho/ld 6e synchronized th/s minimizin# the amo/nt of data written to the dis . Finally8IronSync Server provides the a6ility to verify the inte#rity of copied files 6y comparin# hashsi#nat/res of so/rce and destination files after each file copy operation.

    Sometimes8 it may 6e re>/ired to synchronize specific types of files or #ro/ps of filesaccordin# to /ser'specific needs and re>/irements. IronSync provides a lar#e set of filematchin# r/les allowin# one to synchronize files 6y the file type8 extension8 size8 file name8directory8 attri6/tes8 /ser name8 etc. The /ser is provided with the a6ility to add a n/m6er of

    file matchin# r/les to any file synchronization operation specifyin# which files to synchronize.

    For example8 IronSync allows one to synchronize all types of doc/ment files with the file sizemore than B : and a text pattern in the file name. The /ser is provided with the a6ility tocom6ine different types of file matchin# r/les and lo#ical operators precisely selectin# filesthat sho/ld 6e synchronized.

    In addition to positive file matchin# r/les8 the /ser is provided with ne#ative file matchin#r/les8 which can 6e /sed to excl/de specific types or #ro/ps of files from the filesynchronization process. For example8 IronSync allows one to excl/de all types of ima#esowned 6y a specific /ser and havin# the system file attri6/te. 7ario/s types of positive andne#ative file matchin# r/les may 6e com6ined into sophisticated8 m/lti'level file filtersprecisely selectin# which files to synchronize and which files to excl/de from the filesynchronization process.

    Sometimes8 it may 6e re>/ired to excl/de one or more s/6directories from the filesynchronization process. For example8 if yo/ need to synchronize two directories excl/din#one or two special s/6directories8 yo/ may specify the top level directories as the so/rce anddestination directories and add the s/6directories that sho/ld 6e s ipped to the excl/de list.

    In order to add one or more directories to the excl/de list8 open the file synchronizationcommand options dialo#8 select the A xcl/deA ta6 and add one or more directories to theexcl/de directories list. ,ll files and s/6directories located in the specified excl/de directorieswill 6e excl/ded from the file synchronization process.

    In addition8 advanced /sers are provided with a n/m6er of excl/de directories macro

    commands allowin# one to excl/de m/ltiple directories /sin# a sin#le macro command.IronSync Server provides the followin# excl/de directories macro commands?

    address to send error notifications to. In addition8 in order to ena6le ' ail notifications8 the/ser needs to open the A-ptionsA dialo#8 select the A ' ailA ta6 and specify an S T! server to/se to send ' ail notifications.

    rror ' ail notifications are sent when a file synchronization operation is a6orted d/e to acritical error s/ch as no dis space on the destination device or when there are too many non'critical errors. In addition to error ' ail notifications8 the /ser is provided with the a6ility tosave file synchronization error lo#s in a /ser'specified directory. Finally8 in order to simplifytestin# of sophisticated file synchronization operations8 IronSync provides the a6ility to savef/ll file synchronization lo#s incl/din# all file synchronization actions performed 6y a filesynchronization operation.

    File synchronization lo#s and error notifications may 6e ena6led for each file synchronizationcommand individ/ally and #lo6ally for all file synchronization commands on the IronSync

    Server A-ptionsA dialo#. File synchronization lo#s and error notifications options specified for afile synchronization command ta e precedence over #lo6al file synchronization lo#s and errornotification options specified on the IronSync Server A-ptionsA dialo#.

    3.10 !onnecting to a re*ote IronS nc Server

    The IronSync client < I application allows one to control one or more IronSync Servers locallyor via the networ . In order to connect to a remote IronSync server8 open the client < Iapplication8 press the AConnectA 6/tton located on the main tool6ar and specify a host name oran I! address of the server to connect to.

    In order to prevent /na/thorized access to the IronSync Server8 all comm/nication 6etweenthe client < I application and the remote IronSync server is performed /sin# an , S'2)encrypted networ protocol with randomly selected and dynamically chan#ed eys for eachsession. :y defa/lt8 the IronSync client < I application /ses the TC!=I! port (1%2 to connectto the IronSync Server and in order to 6e a6le to connect thro/#h the networ 8 the portsho/ld 6e open in the serverAs firewall.

    5hen the IronSync client < I application is connected to a server8 the name of the server isdisplayed on the stat/s 6ar8 the sync commands view shows file synchronization commandsconfi#/red on the server and the messa#e lo# view shows last stat/s messa#es from the

    IronSync server. In order to see more information a6o/t the IronSync Server8 select the men/A4elp ' ,6o/tA and the IronSync client < I application will display serverAs A,6o/tA dialo#.

    3.11 Using IronS nc to S nc roni e 8etwor= S ares

    :y defa/lt8 the IronSync service is confi#/red to r/n /nder the local system acco/nt8 which is#ood to synchronize local dis s and directories. -n the other hand8 the local system acco/ntdoes not have permissions to access networ shares and 0,S stora#e devices.

    In order to ena6le IronSync Server to synchronize files to networ shares and 0,S stora#edevices8 the IronSync service sho/ld 6e confi#/red to r/n /nder a /ser acco/nt8 which haspermissions to create files and directories on the re>/ired networ shares.

    The confi#/ration is very simple and may 6e performed within a co/ple of seconds /sin# thefollowin# step'6y'step #/ide?

    The A"eneral A ta6 provides a lar#e n/m6er of #eneral'p/rpose options allowin# one to controlhow IronSync scans directories8 handles errors and reports a6o/t different types of filesynchronization errors.
