Generous supporters of the Race Against Breast Cancer donated the following gifts.

Tickets for an opportunity to win these items are available for a suggested donation of $2 per ticket, or six tickets for $10. The drawing will take place after the race. You do not need to be present to win.

Shining Star, the RABC 25th anniversary quilt, celebrates the courageous people fighting breast cancer and the survivors. Constructed of squares and half square triangles, it measures 96” by 96” and fits a full or queen size bed. Seventeen fabrics are used in the design – seven of the fabrics were used in previous RABC quilts, six fabrics are from the Quilt for a Cure line of fabrics, and one fabric is from the Horizons of Hope line. The quilt top was designed and pieced by Vyn Skinner, a 14-year member of the RABC 5K Committee and the designer of eight previous RABC 5K quilt tops. Machine quilting was completed by Jean McDonald, Touch of Class Quilting.

Nancy Jones is the artist of this beautiful pastel painting entitled “Canola Fields in Bloom”. Inspired by a rural scene while traveling internationally, the artist was reminded of the plains of Kansas and its rolling hills. Nancy’s art pieces have been on display at the Topeka Art Guild, the Collective Art Gallery and the Legacy Community Arts Center. As an art teacher, she enjoys experimenting with different media: pastel, watercolor, color pencils, oils, acrylics and mixed media.

This beautiful Mexican silver necklace was designed and produced by the Mexican artist, Scorcia. It is 95% heavy silver and is a donation from Patty Kahn, a breast cancer survivor. Patty, a lifelong artist and recently retired from Emporia State University, is currently an artist in the NOTO Art District in Topeka. She obtained an ArtsConnect grant, which is a collaboration with NOTO artists, Quincy Elementary teachers, the Washburn University Social Work Department, and the Topeka Rescue Mission.

Proceeds from the Race Against Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk are used to provide mammography services at no charge to qualifying individuals who are in need in Shawnee County and other counties in northeast Kansas.

Your participation will raise awareness about breast cancer and help save lives through early detection and treatment.

If you are or know an individual who may need financial assistance in receiving mammography services, contact the Race Against Breast Cancer, Inc., by phone at (785) 271-1500 or by e-mail at [email protected].

If breast cancer awareness is important to you and you would like to serve on the 2017 5K Run/Walk Committee or the Race Against Breast Cancer Board of Directors, please check the box on your registration form.
