GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL TRYOUT INFORMATION: (contact Coach Lamb if you have any questions at [email protected]) Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Volleyball Tryouts Monday, August 1 to Wednesday, August 3 5:00 - 8:00 PM LJA Gym Girls Intermediate Volleyball Tryouts Monday, August 8 to Wednesday, August 10 5:00 - 8:00 PM LJA Gym IMPORTANT: In order to be eligible for a team, the player must be present for the tryout on the dates & times published. No exceptions. There have been a few inquiries about the need to attend tryouts in August for the Intermediate, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams. The policy is as stated. In order to be eligible for a team, you must attend on the date of the tryout that is specific to the team the student-athlete is trying out for. Example... 7th and 8th graders must attend the Intermediate tryout and 9th - 12th graders must attend the Junior Varsity/Varsity tryout.

I apologize in advance if you have already made summer arrangements or if you have extenuating circumstances that prevent your child from attending the tryout. However, no exceptions will be made. If a student-athlete does not attend, they are not eligible for a team.

Because the policy is new, we do want to offer student-athletes that cannot attend tryouts the opportunity to be a manager. The manager positions will still require a "tryout" of sorts. Basically you would make arrangements with the coaching staff for your daughter to attend practice upon her return. If the coaches felt like your daughter would have a positive impact on the program in the future, they would offer her the opportunity to be a manager. What is a manager?

A manager is someone who trains with the team but does not play in ILH matches (games during the season). Furthermore, the number of opportunities that received to play in scrimmages or game like practices would be limited as well. The reason we limit these opportunities is because the priority needs to be on preparing the team for ILH matches.

We understand that the manager position is not ideal for everyone. However, we do feel like it's a good opportunity to improve skills, build continuity, and keep the student-athletes with the potential to impact the program involved. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email at [email protected].

Aloha,

Lee Lamb, Volleyball Program Coordinator

The Athletic Booster Club does an outstanding job at fundraising and finding volunteers to assist with needs of all of the programs at LJA. The booster club this year has donated $20,000.00 in funds to assist with various needs of our athletic teams. These funds will assist us in paying ILH expenses, assisting teams travel when competing at the State level, purchasing uniforms for teams needing replacements, equipment needed for programs, repairs to existing equipment and transportation costs. In the first two months of this school year the booster funds have allowed us to purchase uniforms for cross country, repair the kayak trailer and make it street safe, purchase balls for all teams using balls in their sport, securing a company that will edit and break down game film, water polo equipment & caps, basketball & tennis ball carts, cabinets to secure uniforms, as well as score books for all teams. LJSA HYSA games results on April 23 2016 FC Hawaii 04B Red vs LISA Chelsea 04B 6:0 There was no question FC Hawaii was clearly the better team. If it would not have been for the Keeper Duke, the result could have been much worse. Duke kept us in the game for a while but he had no chance in the end. The defense in front of him let him down often. Usually our defense is pretty good but in this game there was almost a kind of resignation from the beginning. Many players had tough days. We had 7 players showed up on time and multiple players canceled their commitment the night before or morning of the game. Coach Stefan U - 12

April 23 Sunday game at 4:00 pm Boys U-11 against Surf

Dear Team The formation we used to start the game against Surf 1 - 4 - 3 – 3, was so we could use the width of the field and stretch the opponent team defense.

We took an early 1-0 lead. The goal was a long distance shot from Noah Sherman on a pass from Keenan. At the 26th min. Surf tied the game with a breakaway goal. This was a result of our defenders getting split by a pass. In the second half we changed the line up to 1 - 4 - 4 - 2 to compact the center of the midfield and do more pressure on their side. I had Brandon mark one of the faster and stronger forwards. We had success with this change. We scored at 5:00 of the second half on a goal by Noah Sherman giving us a 2-1 lead. The team played very strong and improved a lot on covering the spaces in the middle of the field. With second half changes, we dominated the play and create several opportunities to add to the final score.. Well done team! I'm proud of the kids!! From our goalkeeper, to our strong defense, midfielders and forwards!! Looking forward to the next game ! Aloha Coach Paco :) LJSA Chelsea 06 Boys: We had a good game vs Rush yesterday. We didn’t play our best and were lacking a bit of passion/inspiration. There were some great individual moments but as a whole the intensity and desire to work with each other and move forward together as a unit, was missing. We found our passes and looked to create out of the back but fell a bit short in the final 1/3. Not taking advantage of our chances again was a problem for us and it was unfortunate that they scored 2 goals on us in the second half. I felt 2-2 was fitting for the end result. I want to see the desire every time we step on the pitch. Thanks Coach Callum Practice Schedule May 2-8: Monday: 3:00-4:00 Academy (K-1) 4:00-5:00 U8-U9 Pick Up Games 4:30-5:30 U10-U12 Practice Tuesday: 3:15-4:30 U8 Boys / U9 Costa 4:30-6:00 U9 Oscar / U10 Boys Wednesday: 3:00-4:00 Academy (K-3) 3:00-4:15 U7 Boys / U8 Girls 4:30-6:00 U11 Boys / U12 Boys Thursday: Saturday: 3:15-4:30 U8 Boys / U9 Costa 9:00-10:00 2008-2009 boys / 2008-2006 girls 4:30-6:00 U9 Oscar / U10 Boys 10:00-11:00 2006-2007 boys Friday: Upcoming Games (May 7 & 8): 3:00-4:00 Academy (K-3) May 7 – U11 Blue 12:00 Field #16 3:00-4:15 U7 Boys / U8 Girls May 8 – U10 Blue 12:00 Field #13A 4:30-6:00 U11 Boys / U12 Boys May 8 – U12 Boys 4:00 Field #
