Irish Rebellion National Characteristics: Irish Hatred: 1796-1803 In any shock combat situation, either side forced to retire suffers an additional

miniature loss above the loss found on the shock combat charts. No prisoners in game taken. Anglo vs. French actions is omitted from this rule.

Irish “Mixed Firearms”: 1796-1803 “Mixed firearms” means the unit has a mixture of muskets, blunderbuss,

hunting rifles, carbines etc. Use the “Matchlock armed” firepower adjustment (-1/3) when using these units.

Militia (M): 1796-1803 See rule at front under National rules. Regimental Artillery: 1796-1803 Only English Crown or Loyal Irish infantry can have regimental artillery. French Line of Communications: 1796-1798 Since the French line of communications, while in Ireland, was non-existent,

French suffer no LOC loss for tabletop games. No Linear Irish Pike formations: 1796-1803 Irish Pike infantry cannot form a linear (1 miniature deep) formation. The

miniatures must be grouped into a massed formation (column like) of at least 2 ranks (as even as possible). This reflects the massed “mob like formations used by the pike formations. If the pike formation is defending inside trenches, they can form their formations one miniature deep while in the trench work.

MFP Irish Pike Infantry Losses: 1796-1803 Irish Patriot pike infantry losses count as ½ MFP point calculation unlike

normal European miniatures at 1 point per miniature lost. Irish patriot firearm infantry, French infantry, cavalry, artillery, train units, and command MFP losses count normally.

Specific Irish Rebellion Unit CMR: Irish Pike Morale: 1796-1803 Players can either have a basis CMR of 5 for Irish Pike formations or roll a 6D

for each unit upon first morale check. If using the variable morale method…roll an additional 6D with first 10D morale check roll.

1 rolled CMR 4 for balance of game 2-5 rolled CMR 5 for balance of game 6 rolled CMR 6 for balance of game

Cavalry Composition: 1796-1803 Irish patriot armies have almost no cavalry. Irish “scouts” are mounted infantry

on captured horses. Maximum of one unit in army. 1796-1803 English Crown and Loyal Irish armies can contain up to 20% cavalry. 1796-1798 French expeditionary army has only a small detachment of 3rd Hussars.

Infantry Composition: 1796-1803 Irish armies are almost 100% infantry. 6:1 minimum ratio pike to firearm. 1796-1803 English Crown and Loyal Irish armies can be 80 to 100% infantry. 1796-1798 French expeditionary force is almost 100% infantry. Artillery Composition: 1796-1798 Irish patriot and French expeditionary forces contain almost no artillery. If any,

will be light pieces or captured English artillery. Use one battery of light artillery in army for ratio (3lb or 6lb).

1796-1803 1 cannon per 6 miniatures

Almost all 3lb or 6lb foot artillery. Loyal Irish artillery uses 3lb.
