President’s Message

Dear Fellow Members, Yes…it’s nearly that most wonderful time of the year! I’m not talking about Christmas…I’m talking about the “high holidays”…St. Pat-rick’s Day and the wonderful events held in the month of March…most especially our beloved St. Patrick’s Day Parade! The club holds three big events during the month of March…our Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, Parade Day and St. Patrick’s Day. Each of these events are important culturally…but are equally as important financially. While we do draw many guests and visitors to our club, we need YOU, our members, to support these events. So mark your calendars now and make plans to attend one or more of these St. Patrick’s Day events at your club. We also need manpower….LOTS of manpower to run all of these events. We charge a cover for non-member guests on Parade Day and St. Patrick’s Day. We run kitchens upstairs and downstairs on both days, as well. We have our annual Corned Beef dinner which is very labor intensive. We need help with set-up and clean up. I promise you that you’ll work hard but you will also have a great time and have the satisfaction that you contributed to the success of these events. Information regarding these volunteer opportunities are contained in this newsletter. In this newsletter you will find a copy of our revised House Rules. The House Committee was charged last fall with updating these rules. However, they felt that most of the rules were just fine and they simply tweaked a few. The second fund is our Building Renovation Fund, established to help fund the proposed new build-ing and renovation of the existing building.

Failure to comply with the liquor laws may result in fines or other penalties such as clo-sure of our pub for a period determined by the Liquor Control Commission. Please remember that you are responsible for the conduct of your guests and they must depart the premises when you depart…no exceptions. This is your club…protect it at all times! Thank you for your cooper-ation.

Listen or play along with the lively jigs and reels…sing a song if you are so inclined…or simply relax and enjoy the music of Ireland. Vulgar, profane, indecent, threatening, or abusive language or conduct;

Fighting or physical violence of an aggressive nature;

Annoying and/or unreasonable noise which is disruptive to other Members, to the point where they complain;

Creating or facilitating the creation of hazardous or offensive situations or conditions.

It shall be the responsibility of the offending Member or the sponsoring Member of an offending guest to see that behaviors or actions referred to in Sections 6a, 6b, 6c or 6d cease immediately upon the matter being brought to the Member’s attention. Failure to comply with this Section may result in those involved being asked to leave the IAHS premises and initiation of disciplinary action against the responsible Members(s) by the House Committee.

Only beverages purchased from the Irish American Home Society may be consumed on IAHS premis-es.

No Member or his/her guest may procure alcoholic beverages from the Irish American Home Society for the purpose of conveying such beverages to individuals on IAHS premises or elsewhere who have not attained the legal drinking age established by the State of Connecticut.
