    Course Description:

    This course describes in detail the limitations of IPv4 and the changes that have been introducedwith IPv6

    We will start with a discussion of all IP header field elements identify all !arts that have beeninherited from IPv4 clarify the terminology and e"!lain all the new header elements their !ur!oseand intended usage.

    The IP header structure will be com!leted with the detailed consideration of the new conce!t of#"tension $eaders in IPv6 and the !ur!ose and usage of each of the o!tions.

    We will then thoroughly discuss the address structure of IPv6 with the formats of %nicast &ulticastand 'nycast addresses and what the o!tions are to obtain a valid IP address.

    The course will then e"!lain how I(&Pv6 is structured and how it used to re!lace and incor!orateall other su!!ort !rotocols )nown from IPv4. This will include detailed discussion of addressgeneration o!tions including *$(P +tateless 'utoconfiguration ,eighbor *iscovery and *u!licate'ddress *etection.

    -outing in IPv6 will be the ne"t section which identifies the !rotocol o!tions within a domain andbetween domains and discussed the related !rotocols such as -IPn and /+P.

    We will the investigate various o!erational issues starting with security in IPv6 usage in P,networ)s with IP+ec mechanisms for authentication and ci!hering.

    This will be followed by a study of &obile IP with the basic o!eration and review of I(&P !rotocolenhancements for this case.

    'nother im!ortant section deals with all as!ects of Interwor)ing with and &igration from IPv4. $erewe will e"!lain the necessity for dual stac) architectures ,'TPT 3 ,'PTPT conce!ts and discussvarious tunneling o!tions such as Teredo 6to4 etc.
