Blusens started its commercial activity

in 2002 with a firm and determined

step in a field traditionally controlled

by multinational brands. The targets at

that moment were ambitious but they

were perfectly reflected in the 2002-2005

Strategy Plan. The Plan was thoroughly

designed for us to be different and

innovative, to grow at an unforeseen pace

and provide the consumer electronics

sector, so in need of a change, with new

blood. We have created a quality brand

from scratch, from the Spanish region of

Galicia and for everybody, a quality brand

guided by its excellence on every single

operative aspect with the objective of

being the best at what we do.

Blusens has far exceeded these Plan objectives by becoming the MP3 sales leading

manufacturer within the Spanish market in a time span of only four years, achieving up

to 300% annual exponential growths and showing no hints of decrease.

Blusens, with its range of products, can be found in more than 6,000 points of sale

comprehended in the largest distribution chains in the country and it is now starting an

unprecedented internationalization stage.

Our distinguishing features -constant innovation, good value for money, guaranteed

profitability, creative marketing and after-sales service- have been exceptionally

received by our customers. Blusens compromise to continuously improve the product

quality and the customer service is mirrored in the creation of our own Support Centre

located in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, with a Call Centre where all the customers’

calls are directly received and dealt with in order to provide a better and faster response

to Blusens product users.

INNOVATION: R&DConstant innovation is one of the pillars of Blusens’ success. That is the reason why we have increased the investments in Research,

Development and Innovation up to exceed 10% of the estimated annual turnover. These investments have culminated in the creation

of our own research team made up by over 35 people. Such a commitment with innovation has fostered the creation of groundbreaking

new products such us the G01, the first European GPS navigator that uses pictometry, the web:tv, a powerful internetTV server and

home entertainment controller, the integration of IPTV protocols over power line...

These advanced products provide a powerful statement that says that technological breakthroughs can be born, developed

and implemented in Spain. Innovation is the aspect that more clearly defines our Marketing strategy. Blusens has always been

characterized by a creative and aggressive Marketing, with actions often associated with large conglomerates. Blusens innovative

and creative strategies have made a deep impression in the field, revealing the firm as a company always on the look-out for different

mediums and strategies with the aim of providing freshness to our Marketing.

In line with our young, vibrant and restless image, we are sponsors of Miss Spain

Pageant, which has associated our brand with the world of Fashion, we also sponsor

the Blusens MotoGP Team, a promising endeavour that supports young and bright

new pilots who are already making a dent in their championships, and the Spanish

Professional Blusens Basketball Team.

Further to these efforts, we have thrown ourselves into the virtual world of social

networking with our BlusensTV one2one community, Blusens Music Digital music label

and many other initiatives that keep us in the forefront of technology, communication

and marketing while closing the gap between the user and the brand.

Our next step was the implementation of our young and forward looking mindset on

the export markets. Starting in Dubai (2007), we have embarked in a very aggressive

globalization campaign under the same motto that made Blusens successful in Spain.

That is being young, fresh, reliable,

innovative and, most of all, closing the gap

between the brand and the user. Today we

are present in China (2007), Middle East

(2007), Mexico (2008), Uruguay (2008) and

Brazil (2012).

We continue to strive and develop

ever more technological products by

launching our new communications line

in which we have taken a new step in

the horizontal integration by developing

HDTV distribution systems via IP and

coaxial cable.

Having a fare presence in the GCC area

our systems are installed in a wide

variety of projects and developments.

From Luxurious hotels like the Vision

Hotel in Abu Dhabi, Diva Hotel in Bahrain,

Lamborghini Hotel in Syria, Ramada

Hotel in Bahrain, Millenium Hotel in

Kuwait, Bayan Palace in Kuwait and the

New Terminal of Jeddah Airport in Saudi

Arabia to universities like Princess Noura

in Saudi Arabia and mega projects like the

Reemram project in Dubailand, Dubai.

Our commitment to QC and continuous

R&D, along with a focused customer

service philosophy guarantee the

performance and reliability of our

systems. Capable now, as we are, of

designing and implementing HDTV

systems that range from the small single

apartment to the most luxurious hotel

complex or cable TV operator...

We will stretch ever more to become

the reference in innovation, technology,

marketing and customer service.

We can afford to be unique, different.

To be Blusens.

The development of new technologies over IP Networks continues to contribute to the integration of a variety of services. These expand from the basic Ethernet network for computer interconnection, to DSL lines for internet access, IP telephony or the most advanced automation and control systems.

The advantage of a standard communication technology over a single network allows the simplification of the cabling network, enables the integration of varied services, which guarantees the compatibility with future technological developments, and facilitates the monitoring, security and control of any installation.

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is one of the services that now can also integrate with the structured cable network of a building. Such revolutionary change in the way TV signal is distributed significantly improves the signal quality, interactivity and control, giving the operators a plethora of options to monitor, add services, maximize audience and improve the return on the investment.

IPTV Standard Platform

The cooperation between Interoud and Blusens, as software and hardware developers, has resulted in the birth of a true NEXTGEN IPTV system that is able to fulfil every requirement the Operator may need. From standard TV channels distribution, to HDTV, Video-on-Demand, Time-shift, personalized advertisement schemes and sponsorships, direct purchase from the TV, Digital Signage and more.

WhaT Is IPTV?

Such solutions play a very important role in the hospitality sector as they provide the tools to increase the comfort level of their guests/patients, as well as the overall revenue. With this IPTV system, the hotel can offer enhanced entertainment services at a Premium, increase the availability of other hotel services (Room Service, Laundry, Restaurant Reservations, Spa, Sports activities, Gift Shops, etc.) while getting valuable data as to what their guests are watching, what channels are popular, what content type gets the most income, what hotel services have more demand, etc.

Thus, IPTV by Blusens provides a true added-value tool to the operator that will, unobtrusively and reliably, increase the revenue on a system that otherwise only represents an added cost.

WhaT can IPTV do for you?

HOSPITALS

Added to the general Hospitality functionality, IPTV can record, and make available to the user network, any workshop, lecture, seminar or procedure carried out in the facility, thus enhancing the practise and resources available to the Hospital. The offer to the patient can even include the meal selection from his physician’s approved menu.

HOTELS, RESORTS, COMPOUNDS, RESTAURANTS

The complete solution offers a centralized point to control and monitor the guest’s consumption and usage of the entertainment system, providing useful statistics that can be used to tailor make the packages offered based on their origin, age group, income, occupation, etc. The On-Demand content and some LiveTV chan-nels can be offered in various languages and with captions to provide the closest sensation to a Home Cinema that a hotel can offer, while giving the Operator a variety of tools to insert various types of advertising formulas. All fully linked to the central Building Management System. Billing is, thus, seamlessly integrated.

CORPORATE OR GOVERNMENT NETWORKS

The integration of the video streams in an existing IP infrastructure makes possible the reception of any content on any facility, even on mobile devices. With an IPTV platform all the multimedia content generated in courses, seminars or master lectures can be recorded and redistributed live during the event or later, to feed STB, PCs inside the complex, Digital Signage panels or via an internet web portal.

EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES

Using the Corporate services as a base, an education institution may be interested in adding notes to the video or a real time messaging feature to allow the users watching a live event like a surgery to share opinions and comments with other users.

CABLE TV OPERATORS

IPTV by Blusens full-fledged solution enhances the services the operator can provide as it is fully interactive in every possible way. Direct TV purchase becomes a true reality for varied forms of products and services. Also, it allows the creation of Portals for different On-Demand content, Pay-per-View, and Live events. Our system enhances the data gathering of user consumption, enabling the use of complex statistics that will serve as a tool for continuous improvement and detection of overlooked niche markets.

IPTV concePTs

On Demand Media BitrateBandwidth consumed by each stream transferred through the network. 5Mbps is the same quality as the live television channels coming from the satellite. 8 to 12Mbps are required for HD content.

Number of on Demand Media Number of demand contents (i.e. movies or videoclips) stored in the VoD storage node server. Each content can be watched simultaneously by an undefined number of users with a single copy of the content on the server.

Unicast TrafficCommunication between one origin and one destination. Used when one stream per user is required, for example in VoD streams. Multicast TrafficCommunication between one origin and several destinations. sed when the same stream can be delivered simultaneously to several users, for example in LiveTV streams.

Multicast TrafficCommunication between one origin and several destinations. Used when the same stream can be delivered simultaneously to several users, for example in LiveTV streams.

Playout ChannelLive channel generated from local stored contents. For example advertising videos of the hotel or a recent movie in a continuous loop. Both live and playout channels will be treated the same way by the middleware. Playout channels are also Multicast traffic.Middleware

Core of the system. Orchestrates interactions with every other part of the IPTV platform. It manages the access rights to LiveTV channels, movies or sections for specific users. It also manages the interaction with the hotel PMS system for pay per view purposes.

Number of UsersIt refers to the number of STB to consider. Each STB will be capable of playing one content independently from the others. One STB per TV screen is required.

Live ChannelStream coming from the satellite dish or any broadcast technology like DTT. Usually a TV or radio channel. A channel coming from a CCTV IP camera is also considered a Live Channel. Live channels are Multicast traffic.

Video on Demand. VoDInteractive video delivery technology which allows each user to be provided with its own video stream, as if it were coming from a local DVD player. The user can pause, fast forward, rewind, etc. the movie at several speeds without interfering with the video beign watched by other users. VoD is unicast traffic.

Set Top Box. STBDevice used to decode IP video streams delivered through the network in a format suitable for being watched in a standard TV Set. Is also responsible of displaying the menus used to browse all the contents of both VoD and LiveTV media library as well as the interactive info pages.

IPTV Contribution SystemEquipment responsible of tuning live TV or radio streams and its injection into the IP network.

Maximum ConcurrencyRepresents the maximum number of users expected to be consuming VoD contents at the same time with a percentage (notice that there’s no limitation on concurrent users for Live or Playout channels as concurrency applies only for VoD)

1. The VoDKAST Middleware server creates the STB menus by accessing the metadata information of the videos from the VoD cluster (movie name, actors, director, etc.) and the EPG information from the live and playout channels while considering the user access rights and credit information obtained from the PMS. Thus, the menu is customized for each guest.

2. The hotel operator can fine tune the platform through the management console. The Middleware Server also monitors the current state of each part of the system and triggers the proper alerts to the management consoles in case of any problem.

3. The VoD Streaming Cluster stores all the videos in its storage nodes and streams it to the network through the streaming nodes. The platform allows an unlimited number of streamer and storage nodes to increase the storage or streaming capacity independently from each other according to the operator needs.

4. The IP Contribution System obtains the live DVB-S, DVB-C and DVB-T MPEG-2 streams from satellite, cable or terrestrial feeds and injects them into the IP network as IP multicast streams.

5. The Playout Server generates continuous loop streams of stored contents as IP multicast streams.

6. The NetPVR server stores local recordings of live TV channels to provide time-shifting features to the platform.

7. The Digital Signage server controls the digital signage screens and split its layout in several regions that can be filled with any multimedia content, even Adobe Flash.

8. The Ethernet Switches aggregate the outputs of all the servers and carry the video streams to the screens through the IP network.

9. The integrated solution allows several types of STB and screens working together: Standalone STB screen, Standard PCs screens and Low or High Connectivity Digital signage screen. Any IPTV content (live, playout, VoD, etc.) can be displayed in any of the STB types.

mIddleWare nodes

The middleware server is the core of the Blusens IPTV solution. It controls the interaction between each part of the system and the interaction of the system itself with the rest of the hotel services. It is also the entry point for the hotel operator, where he can check the status of the network, the connected STB, trigger alerts to pop up in one or a group of STB etc.

VoDKAST will generate menu screens for browsing all the media library in an integrated way. The interface is coherent among all the applications of the system (i.e. TV, VoD, NetPVR, services). It’s also able of providing screens with local information of the hotel and surroundings. This information screens are very simple to create and edit via collection of templates that the operator can modify online through the management interface. All the modules of this middleware are multilingual and can support any language with any font, for example, Arabic.

The VoDKAST middleware provides mechanisms to interact with several hotel services (room service, laundry, housekeeping, etc…) providing direct communication with the departments where this services are stored and being able also to print text messages with the service required.

VoDKAST has the ability of overimpressing banners over the video of all or only some of the Set Top Boxes. It’s also able of blocking the ability of override the message by locking remotely the IR control of the STB.

The middleware nodes are the servers that conform the middleware cluster. Depending on the number of users the middleware can be a single server or a cluster of multiple machines working together to provide unlimited growing capabilities to the platform.

In hospitality environments a cluster of nodes is rarely required, but, in other case scenarios, like telco operators for example, this requirement becomes more common. Please ask your sales representative to give you more information about the telco approach for larger installations.

The middleware nodes are built with the lastest and highest quality components sharing the group of features that configure them as high reliability “state-of-the-art” ones.

•  Up to 500 middleware users.•  Intel Xeon Dual core processors.•  2GB 800Mhz FB-DIMMs RAM.•  2 RAID 1 mirrored 250Gb Hard disks.•  4 x Gigabit Ethernet network interfaces.•  Optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet interface.

The LiveTV and playout channels can be shown or hidden to certain STB or rooms. It’s numbering can be easily resorted and, if provided by the operator, teletext and subtitles are fully supported.

The contents can be marked with any tag defined by the administrator, like action, High Definition, Music Video, Documentary, advertisement, Black and White movie etc. The middleware allows the administrator to sort this tags in any menu/submenu configuration, so browsing thousands of contents is very comfortable.

The price ruling system is very flexible, allowing the hotel to provide different prices according to categories like movie genre, director, length, etc. The system provides a price simulator to check the price charged for the movie to the guest for a particular situation.

The administrator is capable of monitoring what is being played in any room at each STB for any given moment. It’s also capable of rebooting a group or a single STB or even forcing it to tune a specific channel or content and locking the IR control of the STB.

The administrator can check the current billing for any given STB or room at any moment.

The logging system is continuously monitoring the status of the system an can provide alerts when a STB is disconnected from the network or a live TV channel is not receiving content. This prevents any unauthorized access to the distribution network.

The middleware is also capable of gathering use statistics for both VoD and live contents.

The price of the media contents are determined by a very flexible price rule mechanism. This provides the operator the flexibility of grouping some channels into one pack and price it.The price rules are also defined according to a calendar, so creating an “action weekend offer“ is very simple.

The edition of the local information pages is very easily done via the web interface. The administrator does not need any programming or web developing knowledge to create high quality local information pages.

It’s possible to select an specific welcome TV channel according to the nationality of the guest. If the nationality is not registered in the system the welcome channel will be the default one. It’s also possible to run a specific advertisement as welcome video in the mother language of the guest.

The system supports any language in every part of the system: The interface in the STB, the management interface, and even the names of the tags can be internationalized. This way the system recognizes that the “Action movies” will we shown as “Peliculas de accion” for an Spanish speaker.

sofTWare lIcenses

The system can be integrated with the PMS that is part of the IT infrastructure of the hotel. This way the hospitality system is able to generate per-user contents with the information acquired from the PMS.This service will be used for automatic charging the costs of the film rental or whatever pay service that the hotel must decide to implement on the billing of the customer. If the connection with the PMS system is not available for whatever reason, VoDKAST includes a minimal PMS for this purpose. The system also includes applications for viewing the billing of the user from the comfort of the room.

pms IntegratIon

User Interface modIfIcatIon

deVelopment of specIfIc applIcatIon

The graphical interface of the IPTV system for the rooms can be completely customized to the needs of the customer. Custom logos, colors and even menu elements can be integrated in the user interface to provide a coherent, tailor made visual language with the rest of the systems in the hotel, hospital, university, etc.

As the system proposed is a 100% end2end solution, any added value application designed specifically to fit the customer needs can be integrated in the menus of the STB. The flexibility is almost unlimited. Contact with a sales manager to evaluate the viability of a custom development for your needs.

The VoD cluster is the group of servers responsible of storing and streaming the on-demand contents to each STB managed by the middleware. The cluster can be divided into several storage and caching levels with one or more specific node at each level. The most common approach is to have one or two levels with one node each.

In the first level, the storage nodes store and replicate the multimedia content library. At the second and further levels, the streaming nodes act as both streamers and caching nodes, providing the capacity to answer the queries from the STB faster than from the first level. When a STB asks for a movie to a streamer, the streamer checks if the movie is stored locally in its own memory. If the content is available locally, the streaming starts immediately, otherwise, the streamer asks the storage to stream the content to itself. The content is then served through the streamer to the STB. At the same time, the content is split in two and cached locally in the streamer to speed up the subsequent accesses from other users to the same movie.

This clustering approach means that the storing and streaming requirements can grow independently from each other making it possible to adapt the system to any installation size.

VoDKAST Architecture Graphic

sTorage nodes

SN.12 Up to 2 tb storage node

The storage nodes, with an optional external disk array, provide storage of any content of the media library, ensuring fast access, fault tolerance, continuous data output and the capacity of redimensioning the network while in operation. The storage facility will store both the VoD, NetPVR, playout and metadata of the whole media library of the hospitality system. The storage capabilities of the platform can be increased by adding more storage nodes, independently from the streaming capacity required.

Up to 2 tb storage node

•  Up to 2 TB storage node.•  Capable of storing up to 450 hours of SD video or 180 hours of HD video.•  RAID 1 mirroring to ensure data redundancy.•  Gigabit Ethernet output.•  Optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet output.•  1 Disk Maximum fail tolerance.

storage replIcatIon

Storage replication is an optional feature that allows the stored media to be automatically replicated in another server, even in another building to provide fault tolerance and transparent backup features to the VoD cluster.

transcodIng

VoD streaming require that the content is encoded in a certain way so that all the elements of the network know how to handle the data. A transcoding node will enable the operator to load the content in any format and store it in as many ones as required, so that the same content can be streamed in different qualities.

VIrtUal tIcKetIng

Virtual ticketing is a technology which ensures that the access URL for a media content is created for one specific STB, so it can be only watched by this STB even if the URL is stolen by another user. The unauthorized access to any content is blocked and the incidence is reported.Virtual ticketing is not a DRM mechanism, is an access control mechanism.

load balancIng

Load balancing is an optional feature that is continually monitoring the current streaming load of every streamer. The queries of a STB for a specific content can be automatically redirected to the least busy streamer so the total load of the cluster is equitably distributed through all the streamers.

The streaming nodes are the connection points between the VoD cluster and the STB with VoD capabilities. Its responsibility is to store locally the most demanded contents to provide fast response and to automatically get the least demanded contents from the storage nodes and store it locally for further queries for the same content. The streaming capabilities of the platform can be increased by adding more streaming nodes independently from the storage space required.

STREAMING POWERUnlimited growing capacity by addition of new nodes.

www.blusensnetworks.com

The contribution head-end, part of the Blusens blu:core line, is the part of the system in charge of obtaining live content from any source and perform the appropriate operations to transform this feeds into multicast IP streams capable of being transferred through the IP network. Once these streams are in IP format, the middleware is the responsible of granting or revoking the access of each STB to them.

According to the source of the live video the contribution can be digital or analog. In the first case the feeds will come from satellite (DVB-S) terrestrial (DVB-T) or cable (DVB-C) broadcasts. On the other hand, for the analog contribution, the input will be composite or s-video, both in PAL or NTSC formats.

As the content distributed in DVB-S/T/C is already an MPEG2-TS stream, the operation performed by the digital contribution is remove the QPSK, QAM or any other transport layer and substitute it by IP. That's why the digital video stream is not modified in any moment and the broadcast quality is maintained during the whole distribution of the channel through the IP network.

For the analog contribution option, the first step is encoding the original analog source into MPEG-2 digital format. Once this step is done, the stream behaves exactly the same as a digital stream being transferred through the network.

dIgITal conTrIBuTIon

The digital contribution IP Streamer offers a complete professional video head-end solution. It is built around a modular platform, that brings the capability of hosting as many tuning modules as required. This way, the scalability of the platform is assured by providing a higher density, lower cost and better reliability system due to its integrated architecture. The IP Streamers can receive MPEG-2 transport streams from a variety of input sources (ASI, DVB-S/S2, DVB-T, IP and DVB-C, with QPSK, 8PSK, COFDM or QAM modulations) and can descramble and re-scramble selected services, before streaming it via IP or ASI.All the elements of the system are continuously monitored, including decoding CAM modules via a web-based Management Interface, which enables remote configuration of all modules, real time status of their performance, and presentation of service related information. The streamer supports full analysis of PSI/SI (PSIP in later release) and regenerates all tables as required.

analog conTrIBuTIon

The analog contribution modules can receive any analog signal in composite or S-Video format and transform it into MPEG2-TS multicast IP streams to inject it into the IP network providing a convenient way to integrate legacy video generating systems in the IPTV system. Once transformed by this modules, the streams can be treated exactly the same as the live TV streams coming from the digital contribution head-end, the playout server or the Digital Signage server.

The analog contribution series consists of 3 different sized models, enabling custom-sized streaming systems: Ranging from the ultra-compact 1 slot chassis (max. one blade) up to the rackable 21 slot chassis (max. 21 blades) for high-density and multichannel streaming applications, the later one with dual redundant power supplies. All the chassis series supports easy replacement and hot-swapping/hot-plugging of inserted blades.

The chassis models are professional and industrial grade enclosures. The chassis ensure ideal operating conditions for video blades and enable 24/7 operation.

VoDKAST Network Personal Video Recorder (VoDKAST nPVR) increases the possibilities of the VoDKAST platform with the capability of recording, indexing and managing live video sources. This way, it is possible for the user to record live broadcasts, and store it in the VoD streaming cluster storage space for later on demand recovery, providing several services, for example:

- Schedule network recordings. The recordings can be managed directly from the EPG or manually programmed. The users decide which programs they want to record and this programs are automatically recorded in VoDKAST servers. Later, the users will be able to watch the recordings on demand when needed.

- Legal filing systems. For continuous recording of video broadcasting and their later recovering. The Legal filing systems incorporates the EPG information for easy browsing of the recorded contents. This kind of cyclic recordings can be integrated with video surveillance systems. It also supports Catch Up TV services, or live shows recording for the later on demand re-broadcasting.

The NetPVR allows the implementation of Time Shifting for TV channels which allows to the users that are watching a TV channel, to pause and recover it from the beginning of its broadcast using on demand video controls.

Due to legal reasons, VoDKAST nPVR offers several configuration options of the filling systems:

•  Option “one single copy” to manage a single physical recording and several logical recordings.

•  Option “multiple copies” to manage multiple physical copies•  Option “legal file”. Live indexing of the recordings to allow recovering via

positioning inside the recorded media.

It is a new and cost effective way of increasing brand or product visibility in public areas. Using IP technology we can create advertising channels that provide wanted information and, thus, attract an attention that static advertising may not. Furthermore, the marketing campaign can be much more defined and focused, issuing the message to the appropriate market profile, at the right location and time, and creating a far more indelible impression.

WhaT Is dIgITal sIgnage?

The extensive experience and knowledge of the Pulsar product team, in both large installation and VoD management, makes it the right tool to face any challenges related to security, user experience, immediacy and management of remote locations.

Pulsar is a complete product that enables the operator to have full control, from a central location, of the full system, including screen layouts, content, program grill, etc.

WhaT can dIgITal sIgnage do for you?

Pulsar Digital signage solution allows you to create a multimedia advertising solution for providing content to hundreds of screens simultaneously. It also allows you to manage and monitor on real time what is being broadcast on each screen.

The playout solution is the simplest digital signage platform and allows you to feed the signage screens with a full screen sequence of videos, but, if you want more flexibility for, for example showing more than one video at once, Pulsar Digital Signage platform is your answer.

The Pulsar video distribution is supported by the most advanced IPTV technologies providing a high connectivity solution in which the video streams are transferred through the network as multicast IP streams low connectivity solution in which the multimedia contents are distributed and then stored locally in each screen, so a problem in the network won’t affect to the video shown in the screens.

SHOPPING MALLS, SHOWROOMS, RETAIL SHOPS

By melting the powerful advertisement capabilities of the Digital Signage solution and the flexibility of content distribution through an IPTV platform, a commercial surface of any size can deploy from one to hundreds of advertising screens in all its branches reaching more customers and having full control from the headquarters.

STEP 1

Select the resolution of the output screen, Pulsar can work with SD, HD, 16:9, 4:3, etc. Any resolution is supported.

Divide the output screen space into any number of regions and select the size for each region with the drag and drop interface

It’s even possible to overlap the regions if desired.

STEP 2

Upload the multimedia content to the server. Any content is supported MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DIVX, h.264, Adobe Flash animations and video, JPEG, TIFF, etc.

It’s also possible to associate an external information source to any resource. This way you can deploy a flash animation with weather information, and the information to fill the template will be gathered form Internet.

STEP 3

Compose a schedule of programs by filling the layouts defined in the step 1 with the resources defined in the step 2.

The layout can change within a schedule so you can deploy a full screen video and then split the screen in four regions with a different RSS feed in each.

STEP 4

Assign one of the schedules defined in the step 3 to any of the screens available in the network.

The administrator can check in real time what is being broadcast in each screen at any moment.

PlayouT serVer

With the playout server, the administrator can generate continuous loops of full screen pre-scheduled contents and inject it in the network as multicast streams. This is the easiest and simplest way of creating Digital Signage information channels.

These streams are created in MPEG-2 TS format and the original contents must be MPEG-2 video as well. The platform supports both standard and high definition streaming and can schedule even stored and live TV contents under a common schedule.

Playout Server Architecture

PS.100 Playout Server

•  Generates TV channels from realtime video feeds and stored content.•  Connects to VoDKAST servers to retrieve stored on-demand multimedia, or to access remote real-time

encoders.•  Generates an IPTV multicast or broadcast channel.•  Scheduling can be controlled from the graphical user interface integrated in the VoDKAST Management

Desktop.•  An XML/HTTP API is also provided for easy integration with third party control systems.•  Both RTP and Transport Stream output formats are supported.

seamless splIcIng

Optionally, VoDKAST Playout can perform seamless splicing for MPEG-2 content, thus generating a continuous, clean stream out of multiple input sources and switches.

Seamless splicing is a technology which calculates on real time the intermediate video frames during the transition between two videos in a sequence. This means when switching from one video to following, the resulting stream won’t be affected by MPEG-2 video noise providing a clean, smooth transition.

By using the advanced scheduling functions the administrator can compose multicast TV channels interspersing Live TV streaming from the satellite or a CCTV camera with local stored advertisements, each 10 minutes for example.

As the stream created shows only one video at once, a channel generator is not required, but high bandwidth network is a must. Any problem in the network connection will be reflected in the video on the screens.

sIgnage serVer

Signage Server Architecture

With Pulsar Digital Signage server the administrator can manage the whole Digital Signage platform. It controls the channel generators, composes schedules of screen templates and manages the resources used to fill these templates. It’s also responsible of uploading the resources to the channel generators in a completely bandwidth controlled way. Finally, the server will monitor on real time what is being broadcast in each screen with the local time in the screen location, triggering the proper SNMP alerts in case of any incidence.

DS.100 Digital Signage Server

Pulsar Digital Signage server can generate any screen composition by dividing the screen into a template with smaller regions. Each region can have any loop of contents in almost any media format and the layout of the template can change accordingly to the time schedule.

A web server gives access to the platform in a hierarchical way, allowing the Digital Signage contractor to resell time slots for specific regions of certain screens to third parties making it possible to get direct revenue from this platform.

Pulsar Digital Signage server can drive as many low and high connectivity channel generators as desired, independently from the IP technology used to connect the server to the channel generators. It can also upload any given template to one or a group of Channel Generators to provide an easy and fast management of large amounts of screens. The server will also manage the synchronization of the channel generators even if they are distributed across different time zones.

It’s possible to link specific contents to a external information system, like weather RSS feeds or queue ticketing systems. The server will get the information from the external sources periodically and will upload the updated info to each screen. In case the internet connection with the server is lost, the signage screens will work with the latest available information avoiding empty spaces in the screens’ templates, for both low and high connectivity channel generators.

•  Flexible screen template definition and scheduling.•  Mixed Low and High connectivity channel generators management.•  Screen provisioning based on the most advanced IPTV technologies.•  Managed screen content provision bandwidth and scheduling.•  Individual or group screen addressing.•  Third parties information integration and caching.•  Real Time screen monitoring.•  Multiformat content.•  Connection to the screens via any IP technology (Ethernet, Wifi, 3G, Satellite,

DSL, analog modem, etc.)•  Integration of LiveTV, Playout or VoD contents in the templates.

The Channel Generators are the devices responsible of composing the final video stream by filling the template defined at the Pulsar Signage Server with the media contents in a single video stream.

Depending on the reliability of the network the streams can be generated at the head-end level with high connectivity channel generators.

The low connectivity solution is best suited to deployments where the permanent connection with the screens can not be 100% assured. In this situations, the STB connected to the screen must have local storage space to ensure 24x7 signage generation even during a network outing.

The channel generator can be deployed at the head-end level, and its output can be transferred through a trusted network.

GH.100 High Connectivity Channel Generator

Each high connectivity channel generator creates one multicast stream that can be tuned by several STB, so it can feed an unlimited number of screens with the same content. The connection between the STB and the screen can be Composite, S-Video, components, VGA, DVI or HDMI connection.

High Connectivity Digital Signage Architecture

loW connecTIVITy

With the low connectivity Channel Generator, the connection between the server and the screens can be wired or wireless, through Ethernet, Wi-Fi, a 3G mobile network or any other IP based technology. It’s even possible to connect the server in one location and the screens in any other location in the world through internet. A VPN will ensure that the data is secure while it’s being transferred through internet to the destination Channel Generators.

WhaT´s facIal recognITIon?

The Blusens Facial Recognition system allows the manager of a public crowded place to gather information about the people visiting such venue in real time. Shopping malls, Hospitals, Bank branches, Airports, etc. are places suitable for this kind of systems.

The system consists in a series of small cameras strategically deployed on specific places, such as adverstisement or ailes, where the crowd is expected to walk or to stop and pay attention to the advertisement shown. The system is capable of detecting the face of each person in range and identify the gender and the age, so the administrator can gather statistics about the kind of people at the venue at any given moment.

The Facial Recognition system can even calculate the number of seconds each person spends in front of the camera and determine for how long the person was looking to the camera directly during this period. By using this mechanism the property owner can discover what is the age and gender distribution on a specific moment of the day as well as if the latest changes in decoration or advertising are increasing the attention spans of the visitors.

All the information gathered via different cameras is integrated into one single server to create statistics defined specifically to fit the necessities of every authorized user of the platform. The access to this statistics and reports can be done from any device (tablets, phones, computers, etc.)

THE 4 FACTORS

1. Gender analisis: difference between men&women

2. Attendance and Attention. Attitude in front of the camera: Identifies who is looking at the screen or just standing in front of it

3. Age group: And gives you the possibility to personalize real-time advertisement depending on the age and gender

4. Traffic Monitoring: Relates people and time as we can know how many people stops in every point per hour.

glossary of measuremenTs

ADJACENT CHANNEL REJECTION (dB): The difference between the minimum gain in the channel and the maximum gain (minimum attenuation) in the adjacent channel. The adjacent channel in UHF is C±2 and in VHF is C±1).

AGC RANGE (dB): The difference between the maximum and minimum signal that is necessary for a system with AGC to keep a constant output.

BAND REJECTION (dB): The difference between the minimum gain in the amplified band and the maximum attenuation in the rejected band.

FLATNESS (dB): The difference between the maximum and minimum gain in a certain band or channel.

FREQUENCY RESPONSE: The variation in amplitude within a certain band or channel.

GAIN (dB): This is the difference between the output power of an amplifier with the characteristic impedance (75 Ω) and the input power.

MAXIMUM OUTPUT LEVEL (dBμV)DAB Amplifier: Intermodulation distance= 50 dB (2 channels 4 MHz)

FM Amplifier: UNE 523/79 standard Intermodulation distance= 54 dB

IF Amplifier: DIN VDE 0855/12 standard Intermodulation distance= 35 dB

PAL broadband amplifiers: DIN45004B standard Intermodulation distance= 60 dB

Single channel amplifiers: EN50083-5 standard Intermodulation distance= 54 dB

NOISE FIGURE: The ratio of the actual noise power generated at the output of an amplifier to that which would be generated in an ideal resistor. The lower the noise figure, the better the performance. The noise figure is expressed in (dB): NF=10 log F.

REJECTION BETWEEN INPUTS/OUTPUTS (dB): The band attenuation between inputs/outputs.

SPURIOUS (dBc): The difference in levels between the channel carrier created by a modulator or conversor and the lower side band or local oscillator. This only applies when there is a broadband channel.

THROUGH LOSSES (dB): The attenuation that is undergone by signal in a specific band between the input and output of a device.

BER (Bit Error Ratio): Measurement of signal quality after demodulation. It simply indicates what proportion of the received binary digits (bits) are incorrect – 0 received as 1 or vice-versa. BER is ultimately the best measure of digital signal quality since it tells us directly whether a picture can be displayed. In practice, when investigating reception problems, a CSI display is often more useful and MER measurements may be more appropriate, with a direct indication in dB of the ability of a receiver to decode the signal. A satisfactory result in a Digital installation such as DTT or Satellite would be <2 x 10-4

MER (Modulation Error Ratio): is a very similar parameter to C/N and is also a ratio measured in dB. It includes all other signal impairments, not just noise. It can therefore be used to give a more direct indication of decoding margin when, as is often the case, there is co-channel interference as well as noise in the channel.

H.264 PROFILESThe standard includes the following sets of capabilities, which are referred to as profiles, targeting specific classes of applications:CONSTRAINED BASELINE PROFILE (CBP)Primarily for low-cost applications this profile is used widely in videoconference and mobile applications. It corresponds to the subset of features that are in common between the Baseline, Main, and High Profiles described below.BASELINE PROFILE (BP)Primarily for low-cost applications that requires additional error robustness, while this profile is used rarely in videoconference and mobile applications, it does add additional error resilience tools to the Constrained Baseline Profile. The importance of this profile is fading after the Constrained Baseline Profile has been defined.MAIN PROFILE (MP)Originally intended as the mainstream consumer profile for broadcast and storage applications, the importance of this profile faded when the High profile was developed for those applications.EXTENDED PROFILE (XP)Intended as the streaming video profile, this profile has relatively high compression capability and some extra tricks for robustness to data losses and server stream switching.HIGH PROFILE (HIP)The primary profile for broadcast and disc storage applications, particularly for high-definition television applications (this is the profile adopted into HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc, for example).HIGH 10 PROFILE (HI10P)Going beyond today’s mainstream consumer product capabilities, this profile builds on top of the High Profile, adding support for up to 10 bits per sample of decoded picture precision.

HIGH 4:2:2 PROFILE (HI422P)Primarily targeting professional applications that use interlaced video, this profile builds on top of the High 10 Profile, adding support for the 4:2:2 chroma subsampling format while using up to 10 bits per sample of decoded picture precision.HIGH 4:4:4 PREDICTIVE PROFILE (HI444PP)This profile builds on top of the High 4:2:2 Profile, supporting up to 4:4:4 chroma sampling, up to 14 bits per sample, and additionally supporting efficient lossless region coding and the coding of each picture as three separate color planes.HIGH STEREO PROFILEThis profile targets two-view stereoscopic 3D video and combines tools from the High profile with inter-view prediction capabilities of Multiview Video Coding extension. In addition, the standard contains four additional all-Intra profiles, which are defined as simple subsets of other corresponding profiles. These are mostly for professional (e.g., camera and editing system) applications:HIGH 10 INTRA PROFILEThe High 10 Profile constrained to all-Intra use.HIGH 4:2:2 INTRA PROFILEThe High 4:2:2 Profile constrained to all-Intra use.HIGH 4:4:4 INTRA PROFILE

The High 4:4:4 Profile constrained to all-Intra use.CAVLC 4:4:4 INTRA PROFILEThe High 4:4:4 Profile constrained to all-Intra use and to CAVLC entropy coding (i.e., not supporting CABAC).

As a result of the Scalable Video Coding extension, the standard contains three additional scalable profiles, which are defined as a combination of the H.264/AVC profile for the base layer (2nd word in scalable profile name) and tools that achieve the scalable extension:SCALABLE BASELINE PROFILEPrimarily targeting video conference, mobile, and surveillance applications, this profile builds on top of a constrained version of the H.264/AVC Baseline profile to which the base layer (a subset of the bitstream) must conform. For the scalability tools, a subset of the available tools is enabled.SCALABLE HIGH PROFILEPrimarily targeting broadcast and streaming applications, this profile builds on top of the H.264/AVC High Profile to which the base layer must conform.SCALABLE HIGH INTRA PROFILEPrimarily targeting production applications, this profile is the Scalable High Profile constrained to all-Intra use.

Horizontal cables should be terminated using the T568A pin/pair assignments, “or, optionally, per [T568B] if necessary to accommodate certain 8-pin cabling systems”. Despite this instruction, many organizations continue to implement T568B for various reasons, chiefly associated with tradition (T568B is equivalent to AT&T 258A). The United States National Communication Systems Federal Telecommunications Recommendations do not recognize T568B.

An Ethernet crossover cable is a type of Ethernet cable used to connect computing devices together directly where they would normally be connected via a network switch, hub or router, such as directly connecting two personal computers via their network adapters.

Automatic MDI/MDI-X Configuration is specified as an optional feature in the 1000BASE-T standard, meaning that straight-through cables will often work between Gigabit capable interfaces. This feature eliminates the need for crossover cables, making obsolete the uplink/normal ports and manual selector switches found on many older hubs and switches and greatly reducing installation errors.
