Message from

”By the end of each academic year, about ten thousand fresh pharmacists get their professionalism certificates. Before the Egyptian revolution, the extracurricular activities were somehow restricted and that resembled a small scale of reality which I consider was one of the main reasons of the revolution.

Thus I believe that the pharmaceutical community in Egypt after the revolution has gained young pharmacists who tasted freedom and have acquired various skills most importantly the leadership and the ability to communicate with different cultures.

The 58th IPSF World Congress will be a great opportunity to connect pharmacy students from all over the world and I would like to point out that the constitution of our syndicate requires that half of the Executive members to be from young pharmacists, hence I think that there will be a great role for the young pharmacists in the coming syndicate elections as those working in the EPSF and play an active and influential practice of the public and volunteering work.

Furthermore, I am conforming that we support the pharmacy students to travel, attend and organize international conferences and events for the aim of having their honorable images.

Nowadays, Egypt needs - more than ever - to be seen by the world’s eyes represented by its youth who live in freedom and democracy.

In the end, I would like to show my gratitude and excitement to be with you in this beautiful coastal city, Hurghada, which was chosen to embrace your congress.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Mohamed Abdel Gawad

Message from Egyptian Pharmacists Syndicate

Dear Pharmacy students from all over the world and guests of the 58th IPSF World Congress,

It was my honor to be part of the IPSF which resembles my extensive affinity to my professionalism. Ever since I was a student in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, my life was full of activities within the faculty through my local scientific association and the various inter-universities communication.

Consequently, the practice and activities were maintained even after graduation in the aim of serving the profession and our nation. Hence, I’m delighted of joining the IPSF through my presence in the Executive board of Egyptian Pharmacists Syndicate as a representative to the category of Egyptian young pharmacists.

My working potential increased specially after the Egyptian revolution which made us heading towards the construction and obtaining results for our efforts.

Finally, it’s our honor to be a main part of the 58th IPSF World Congress next August in Hurghada, and we’re proud of the youth of the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation for their spirit, potential and achievements.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Marwa Saad

Head of Youth Committee

Public Health campaign

Diabetes and Healthy Living

Congress program

Every 10 seconds, a person dies of diabetes-related causes. In the same 10 seconds, another two people are diagnosed with the disease for the rest of their life and may suffer increased morbidity and reduced quality of life, premature death, and large adverse economic effects due to higher health-care and non-health-care costs. There are 346 million people worldwide have diabetes according to the last declaration of WHO in 2011.

This year IPSF is raising the cause of the diabetes through the public health campaign in the 58th IPSF World Congress. The campaign is scheduled to be on day 7 of the congress (7th of August) on which all the congress participants will raise the cause wearing blue colors.

The awareness campaign will target the public educating them about disease and how to lead a healthy living. This event will also have some interesting activities and competitions promoting the healthy living with diabetes (eg. marathon, cycling, healthy cooking, drawing and balloon competitions) and winners will be awarded at the campaign closing ceremony. Salam alaykom and hello to all,

I want you; yes you, to come to our Patient Counselling Event (PCE) workshop and competition. PCE is one of the world pharmacy challenges that the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) runs every year in our world congress and regional symposiums. It is a one of a kind event that draws the best, and brightest, or those who are interested in this area of pharmacy practice. The world pharmacy challenges series concludes every year with the IPSF World Pharmacy Olympics at our world congress, and PCE is one of our premier events. We welcome everyone to come to compete in our PCE, as the winners from our World Congress PCE are crowned the champions of the world. Imaging the glory, the prestige, the glamour; need I say more?

First of all, what is PCE? Patient Counselling is an essential skill for the pharmacy profession as it deals with the delivery of health care between pharmacist and patient. PCE is composed of workshops and a series of live clinical-case based scenario where the participants will counsel an actor-patient one-to-one, and where professional judges will offer you valuable feedback. If you have any interest in how to improve your counselling and interaction with patients, then come.

Why is this part of the IPSF World Pharmacy Olympic? As like last year, we promote PCE in our member countries. From there, each country’s winners and the winners of the IPSF regional PCE competition are automatically guaranteed a spot for the IPSF World Congress Olympic PCE competition.

How can you get involved? Register for IPSF World Congress at www.ipsf2012.org; Sign up for PCE during congress. If you are the national winner(s) and want to reserve a spot of PCE, email me at [email protected]. Want to establish PCE in your country, email me at [email protected] or Patient Counselling Coordinator [email protected].

As my personal motto is, “Think you are good? Think again!”, I encourage you to come and challenge yourselves, and the most of all, experience the IPSF spirit.

Viva la Pharmacie! See you in Egypt!

Diving in the Red sea

Diving in Hurghada can be one of the most inspirational experiences in your life. The Red Sea is an awe inducing ecosystem formed million of years ago. The sea is the habitat of over 2000 different and rare species of marine creatures varied between fish, corals and other invertebrates; they mix forming a jungle of unbelievable color and breath taking beauty and splendor

The great conditions of the red sea also include good visibility due to calm waters and increased light penetration resulting from its close proximity to the equator. These factors make the Red Sea great for both the growth of underwater wild life and also great for diving to see this wild life.

Karnak Temple

The Karnak Temple complex is the combined achievement of many generations of ancient builders over a period of 1500 years. Thirty different Pharos contributed to the building process of this site, enabling it to reach both complexity and diversity not seen elsewhere. It was after all the new kingdom’s most sacred site.

The Temple of Amun, the complex’s main structure, is the largest place of worship ever built in history, and that is only one of many other features to Karnak that make it one of the largest of all ancient sites in Egypt.

The Saladin Citadel

One of Cairo’s most popular tourist attractions is the Citadel, located on a spur of limestone that had been detached from its parent Moqattam Hills by quarrying. The Citadel is one of the world’s greatest monuments to medieval warfare, as well as a highly visible landmark on Cairo’s eastern skyline.

The story goes back to the 12th century, Salah ad-Din (Saladin to Westerners), an Abbasid Ruler, fortified the area where it served as both a fortress and a royal city; it has never been without a military garrison since it was built. He used the most modern fortress building techniques of that time to construct the original Citadel to achieve the maximum protection possible. Since the death of Salah Ad-din the citadel underwent many reinforcements and renovations.

Modern Library of Alexandria

The ancient library, perhaps the most famous library in history, was the center of learning and scientific research in the ancient world. In the library worked a community of philosophers and scientists who established and mined the basic of all modern sciences. The library as well was the first to translate the Old Testament from Hebrew into Greek.

A movement to the Modern library of Alexandria was made in October 2002. - Bibliotheca Alexandrian (BA). It is located at a magnificent site on the seafront. The library main reading room is huge spanning over eleven cascading levels; the complex also houses conference centers, specialized libraries, exhibition rooms, a planetarium and a manuscript restoration laboratory.

The library contains a growing comprehensive documentation of the Egyptian Revolution using various media tools as photo and video galleries and symposiums.

CAREFULLY

Egypt is generally a very safe country to visit, with no ongoing tension from the 2011 revolution. Egypt relies heavily on foreign tourism and its national income and both Egyptian people and government are extremely keen to prevent any occurrence that might create a bad impression and keep tourists away.

You will find security in Egypt everywhere. It’s frequently exaggerated by western media outlets, creating an impression that is somewhat amplified by the heavy-handed policies of the Egyptian authorities in keeping tourists safe.

Safety in Egypt can be relates to three specific aspects, consistency of the attitude of the general population, the attitude of the government towards safety concerns and the physical infrastructure of safety precautions. We assure you that Egypt scores very high on each of these.

Also we would like to assure that the 58th IPSF World Congress is highly protected by the Tourism Police, the whole event is under the auspices of the Egyptian Pharmacists Syndicate, Ministry of Health and Population, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Ministry of Culture.
