iPortal User Guide for EAP-Reciprocity and Global Exchange Students

1) Go to: iportal.ucsd.edu • Enter your PID (begins with the letter “A” and password to sign in. You can retrieve your PID

by following these instructions.

2) Before starting your application, click on the “Services” button at the top of the page.

3) Click on “Start” next to “Pre-Arrival I-20/DS-2019 Request”

4) You will be taken to an information page. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS CAREFULLY. Next, click on “Apply for your I-20 or DS-2019”.

5) Review ALL tabs in the “My Profile” section before you proceed with your application. NOTE: “Country of Birth” and “Country of Legal Residence” will be blank. You will be asked to input this information at a later stage in your application.

If you notice any incorrect information in any of these sections, please note that you cannot edit yourself. Please make any correction requests in the “Application Comments” question toward the end of your application request. You may still complete your application while these corrections are being made.

7) Next, select “No visa at this time”

8) Select “Education Abroad Program/Global Exchange” as your program type

9) Indicate the source of your living expense funding (do not include tuition and fees provided for you by the exchange). The minimum amounts required can be found on the Budgets & Costs webpage.

o Indicate what currency (ex: won, pounds, RMB) that your funding is in.

10) List the name you are currently attending in your home country. List your title as “Student”. Indicate whether you have been in J-1 status in the past two years.

11) Indicate whether you will be adding any dependents (spouse/children) to your status.

12) Set up an Express Mail account to receive your DS-2019 by FedEx, DHL, or UPS. You may set up an

Express Mail account using eShipGlobal. Then, input your eShipGlobal confirmation number.

13) Note any comments that you would like an advisor to know about related to your request. *This is where you may provide any updates/corrections to your profile information such as address, name, etc.*

14) Review your profile information again for accuracy.

15) Upload required documents, including your passport biographical page and financial information. Remember that your financial documentation (bank letter, bank account statement, etc.) cannot be more than 3 months old from the date of submission.

16) Add any comments that you feel may be important for the international student advisor to consider. Then, check the certification statement and click “Submit”.

17) You will receive an automated email confirming that your iPortal application has been received. It will be processed within 3 weeks. IMPORTANT TIPS/INFORMATION:

o You can log in to the iPortal at any time to check on the status of your application by going to “My Requests”.

o You can make changes to your application if it is still in the “Submitted” stage. However, once this changes to “Under Review”, you will no longer be able to make edits and will need to contact [email protected] request changes.

o You can check out the New Students page specifically for EAP-R/Global Exchange students for important deadline and pre-arrival information.

o You can contact us at [email protected] at any time if you have questions or concerns about your iPortal application or have pre-arrival questions.
