Obiettivi Conoscenza del lessico in Inglese relativo ad

alcune problematiche della sicurezza sul lavoro

e all'uso dei principali dispositivi di protezione

individuale.

Decrizione dell'attività 1) Il docente distribuisce il materiale relativo

alla terminologia da utilizzare (teaching

vocabulary).

2) Successivamente stimola un brainstorming in

cui gli alunni suggeriscono parole attinenti al

tema e il docente costruisce uno spider diagram

alla lavagna.

3) Il docente distribuisce il Testo e gli alunni, in

coppia, seguono la lettura effettuata dal docente

che pone l'accento sui concetti principali e si

sofferma quando necessario.

HEALTH AND SAFETY IN THE WORK PLACES.

In Italy, health and safety at work are regulated by Legislative Decree number 81 of 9th

april of the year 2008.

This Decree , that receips European prescriptions about safety at work, replaces the older laws.

Any work activity, whether public or private has risks that should be carefully considered.

VARIOUS TYPES OF WORKPLACES

ROAD CONSTRUCTION SITE TURNERY ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP

SCHOOL MUNICIPAL OFFICES

The employer has the primary responsibility of the health of workers.

In the work places and in the building sites, also the workers must respect the laws on job security, otherwise they may face significant risks.

Every year, in Italy 1000 workers die because of work-related injuries.

The workers must follow specific training courses on safety at work.

They are represented by Representative of Workers’ Safety.

Every year the workers must undergo a medical examination by an occupational doctor.

The occupational doctor must control the health and state of workers.

During their activity the workers must use the Individual Protection Devices (IPD).

If workers work in a building site must use the following protections:Overalls, safety helmet (hard hat), safety gloves, safety goggles, safety shoes with reinforced toes, earplugs or ear protection, harness, etc.

There are, also, collective protection devices such as:

Scaffolding, ladders, railings, lifelines, electrical equipment in accordance, etc.

In the work places it is absolutely prevent the access to strangers.

Scaffolding may be assembled according to the relevant certification.

What are the most common accidents that we have in work places?

Falls, crashes, burns, cuts, crushing, electrocutions, use of dangerous substances, represent the major risks.

When working on a roof must use special harnesses attached to fixed points such as “lifelines”.

To prevent the hazard of electrocution, electrical plants shall be provided with life-saver and earth system.

To prevent the risk of short circuits and overload you have to use automatic circuit breaker.

When working with a grinder must equip themselves with safety goggles, gloves and earplugs.

To avoid crushing the feet you must use safety shoes with reinforced toes.

If you have to turn off a fire you use a fire extinguisher.

When working on a ladder is required the presence of a collegue that blocks the ladder.

To reach a high point you must use an elevator basket.

On a roof hook the harness to a lifeline and install railings to avoid falls.

To reduce the risk of electrocution the electric plant must bemade in accordance.

The earth system safes people by indirect contacts.
