CUSHIONING(OPTIONAL)Cushionedcylindersareusedwhenthepistonisrequiredtomoveheavyloadsortravelathighspeeds.Undertheseconditions,thepistonwillcollidewiththeheadandcapcausingheavydamagetothepistonandthecap/head.Toreducetheseeffects,aresistingforcemustbebuiltupinsidethecylindertobringthepistontoasafeandsmoothstopduringthelastportionofitsstroke.Cushionsbuiltintothecylinderperformexactlythisfunction.Theabilityofcylindertodecelerateandstopinertialoadsisdependenton:(a)thevolumeofcushionchamberwhichisproportionaltothelengthofcushionstrokeforagivensizeofcylinder;(b)pressuredevelopedincushionchamber;(c)theefficiencywithwhichthefluidismetered.Fornormalapplications,standardlengthcushionsaresufficient.Whereextremelyfastmovingloadsareinvolved,specialcushionsaretobedevisedtobringloadtoastopwithoutbounce.Cushionsneednotbespecifiedwhen
