When a small fi re erupted on the second fl oor of this commercial building, the fi re sprinklers quickly extinguished the fi re with little fi re damage. Unfortunately, as a result, there was signifi cant water damage on two fl oors including this hallway that had asbestos in the drywall. The Har-Bro emergency team quickly responded to minimize the water and smoke damage using traditional, restorative cleaning and drying techniques. To dry the area with asbestos without disturbing it required a more creative solution. After extracting as much water as possible, the base of the walls were sealed with heavy plastic creating an air-tight chamber where dehumidified air was pumped through under pressure to dry the walls, preventing thousands of dollars in asbestos abatement! When a monsoon-like storm with 80 mph winds and torrential rains ripped into a commercial laboratory, Har-Bro responded immediately! Upon receiving an urgent call for help at our 24 hour dispatch center early one morning, Har-Bro immediately responded with an emergency crew to the scene. An errant vehicle had struck our clients building causing signifi cant structural damage and lack of security for the tenant as the building was now open! Our emergency crew provided temporary structural shoring and boarded up the opening into the building to ensure security. The Har-Bro team then worked closely with a structural engineer and the city to create a reconstruction plan. The repairs consisted of careful demolition and detailed framing repairs followed up by stucco and drywall and fi nally a fresh coat of paint. Through it all the tenants business was able to stay open and in fact did not suffer any loss of operations whatsoever! A natural gas explosion caused the tremendous damage to this hotel! Fortunately, the hotel was in the process of being constructed and was not yet open for business. The general contractor responsible for the construction of the hotel chose Har-Bro to perform the emergency drying from the water used after the explosion. Immediately Har-Bro was on-site with personnel and equipment to stabilize the building and establish 24 hour site security. The blast damage to the building challenged traditional drying techniques due to the humidity and waterfront location. Har-Bro used state of the art dry down equipment and strategies to limit water damage and also managed to save the escalators and elevator shafts. When an unattended stove in this apartment complex caught fire, Har-Bro responded immediately! The apartment complex management company called Har-Bro and responded within 30 minutes. Though there was only one unit that was damaged by the fire, four adjacent units suffered extensive water and smoke damage. After this devastating apartment building fi re occurred, Har-Bro responded immediately. Within 30 minutes, the Har-Bro emergency team began arriving onsite. Three units of the 20 in the building were uninhabitable due to the fi re but surrounding units had smoke and water damage. Our emergency team worked quickly to start drying and cleaning the partially damaged units as well as provide temporary roof repairs where the fi re department opened up the roof to fight the fire. Additionally, the Har-Bro team isolated the damaged gas and electrical lines then worked with the city to restore gas and electricity to the units with minor damage to maintain occupancy for these units. An electrical fi re in the attic of this Chevrolet , dealer caused an excess of $1 million dollars in damage! The Har-Bro team responded immediately with a large contingent of emergency equipment and personnel. The damaged building needed to be secured and as it bordered the sidewalk and street, the public needed to be protected as well. Har-Bro braced the exterior walls, boarded up the door and window openings and provided emergency staging to ensure that no debris would fall onto the sidewalk or street. The dealership needed to be able to stay open throughout the reconstruction process and Har-Bro provided temporary electrical service and office trailers to enable this. Throughout the entire project Har-Bro worked closely with the insurance carrier and client to ensure that the repairs were completed within the reconstruction estimate. The greatest challenge was the building itself! It is an old, masonry building with a ‘bow-string truss” roof design that is challenging to reconstruct. Har-Bro has successfully rebuilt many of these aged buildings with excellent results. The client was very pleased that Har-Bro was able to rebuild this dealership back to their original specs.
