THANK YOU IOWA PHARMACISTS…YOUR GENEROSITY SUPPORTS THE PHARMACY PROFESSION.

2012-2013 proved to be a remarkable year for the IPA Foundation. In addition to our work on the new strategic plan, we continued to grow our support for student pharmacists, leadership development, continuing professional education, and pharmacy practice innovation.

Our fundraising initiatives in 2012 all experienced considerable growth. In particular, the Thomas R. Temple Leadership Pharmacy Endowment Fund grew by more than $50,000, grants for practice development exceeded $70,000, a successful golf classic resulted in four student scholarships and the Foundation secured commitment for two named scholarship programs through deferred/estate giving contributions. In addition, the Foundation partnered with the APhA Foundation on the development of a Bowl of Hygeia Endowment Fund, securing $10,000 of support from Iowa pharmacists.

We invite you to review this Annual Report, celebrate our programs of charitable support and acknowledge our roster of Foundation contributors. The people and companies listed in this Report reflect the generous nature of the pharmacy community – contributors who are making a difference for our profession.

As you review this report we would ask you to consider how you might best help our profession by making a tax-deductible contribution in support of our great profession.

Indeed, the generosity of Iowa pharmacists is something we all greatly cherish. Thank you!

Student pharmacists represent a major focus of support for the IPA Foundation. On an annual basis, the Foundation invests more than $40,000 in scholarship and professional development programming for students at Iowa’s two colleges of pharmacy.

In regard to Student Scholarships, the Foundation provides direct financial aid to deserving students at the University of Iowa and Drake University. In 2012, more than $17,000 in scholarships was provided to the two colleges of pharmacy for subsequent distribution to students.

In addition to scholarship aid, the Foundation also provides financial support for professional development activities including student attendance at state/national professional meetings and student participation in the Bill Burke Student Pharmacist Leadership Conference. These initiatives are designed to instill a sense of professionalism in the hearts and minds of student pharmacists, increase their awareness of professional issues, improve communication and leadership skills, and help establish students as an integral part of the profession. Also, the IPA Foundation provides direct support for the Max W Eggleston Executive Internship in Association Management – a twelve week program held each summer at IPA headquarters. The program is designed to provide student pharmacists with an educational experience in Association work and exposure to the professional, public, and educational issues confronting the profession. The program, now in its 32nd year, aims to train student pharmacists for leadership positions in the profession and other health related organizations.

Developing new leaders for the profession has been a major priority for the IPA Foundation. In particular, the Foundation has supported, for 25 consecutive years, a unique leadership development program for pharmacists in their first 15 years of practice. The program – Leadership Pharmacy – provides new pharmacy practitioners with a cutting edge opportunity to develop their leadership skills that will enable both personal and professional growth.

The goals of Leadership Pharmacy are to identify emerging leaders and, through a three-day program of educational and participatory exercises, enhance the leadership skills of the participants and provide motivation to seek greater awareness and involvement in the issues confronting the profession of pharmacy. Many of the pharmacists who have attended the conference over the years have gone on to assume leadership roles in their local organizations, the Iowa Pharmacy Association, national professional organizations, and in their communities.

2012 LEADERSHIP PHARMACY PARTICIPANTS:

The conference also represents a unique partnership with the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, and has proved to be one of the most valuable programs supported by the Iowa Pharmacy Association Foundation. Additional support for the Conference in 2012 came from our Premier Partners Teva Pharmaceuticals and McKesson.

A list of past participants can be found on the IPA website:www.iarx.org/IowaPharmacy/Events/MeetingsConferences

The Collaborative Education Institute’s mission is to be a leader in providing innovative live and web-based continuing pharmacy education (CPE) in the areas of preceptor development, health care quality, immunization administration, health coaching, and up to date clinical, management, law and patient safety activities that assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in advancing their continuing professional development (CPD).

Over the past six years, the IPA Foundation, along with the University of Iowa and Drake University Colleges of Pharmacy, has provided significant support for the development of the Collaborative Education Institute (CEI). Organized to provide innovative live and web-based continuing pharmacy education (CPE), CEI has developed and provided education for state, national and international partners. Without the Foundation’s support, CEI’s significant growth would not have been possible.

ABOUT CEIThe Collaborative Education Institute (CEI) is a partnership of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the Iowa Pharmacy Association. The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy brings strong research and educational capabilities, resources, nationally renowned pharmacy and health sciences faculty. Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences contributes a strong national presence in entrepreneurial leadership, preceptor development resources and renowned clinicians and faculty. The Iowa Pharmacy Association is housed with a premiere state membership-based organization that has successfully spearheaded continuing education endeavors, practice change initiatives and quality improvement programs, both in-state and nationally.

CEI is a leader in providing innovative live and web-based continuing pharmacy education (CPE) in the areas of preceptor development, quality, immunization administration, health coaching, and up to the date clinical and management activities that assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in advancing their continuing professional development (CPD)

CEI launched an updated website at learning management system, www.GoToCEI.org, which enables easier searching for CPE activities, provides handouts for activities in the user’s profile, provides feedback on assessment questions related to CPE, and immediately sends information to the CPE Monitor System - a new tracking system required for use by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians receiving ACPE continuing pharmacy education credit.

The IPA Foundation believes that it is important for the profession to preserve its rich heritage and spotlight the people, organizations and initiatives that have served to make Iowa pharmacy a stronger leader on a state and national stage.

IPA Foundation projects have included the construction of an 1880 Living History Farms Exhibit in Urbandale, Iowa. The Farms host more than 125,000 visitors each year and spotlights the contributions of the profession to the lives of Iowans.

Additionally, Iowa pharmacy’s leaders and activities over the past 133 years are also chronicled in publications supported by the IPA Foundation. In particular, the Foundation has supported the publication of three historical books on Iowa Pharmacy: Iowa Pharmacy - A Century of Service, Transitions Through Innovation, and Pride in our Past - The Promise of Tomorrow.

It is the mission of the IPA Foundation to inspire generosity and fulfill the aspirations of the pharmacy profession in areas related to education, practice-based research and practice development. As such, resource development becomes a critical piece of the Foundation’s work so that Iowa pharmacy can support its goals and ambitions.

There are several ways Iowa pharmacists can support the work of the Foundation through charitable giving. Contributors to the IPA Foundation are recognized according to their level of giving. Combined gifts to the Foundation are noted on page 10.

Gifts to the IPA Foundation come in a variety of ways:Contributions with Membership DuesOne of the easiest ways to make a contribution to the Foundation is to include charitable donation on the membership renewal form. These contributions are typically at a low level of $25 but provide a sustaining level of giving which supports scholarships and CPE programming.

Legacy SocietyEstate planning and deferred giving is an excellent way to leave a lasting legacy for your profession. Many Iowa pharmacists and their families utilize this tool to minimize tax liabilities and support the profession for many years to come. If the IPA Foundation is part of your estate plan, please let us know so that we may recognize your generosity and make sure that your gift supports the program or purpose you care most about.

Named ScholarshipsA gift to the IPA Foundation can also be directed to the establishment of a named scholarship. Pharmacists and their families can establish an endowed fund to support annual student pharmacist scholarships in their names. Various denominations in scholarship funds may be created through a one-time gift, annual gift, or differed gift. Interested parties should contact the Foundation to explore this generous way to perpetuate your legacy for years to come.

Annual FundEach year the Foundation solicits contributions to its Annual Fund. Iowa pharmacists and pharmacy related corporations have an opportunity to generously support the Foundation or a specific Foundation program (i.e. scholarships, leadership development, CPE, pharmacy heritage, or practice innovation).

MemorialsOne way to honor the memory of a colleague is with a memorial gift to the IPA Foundation. Memorial gifts are a way to carry on the contributions a pharmacist or someone close to the pharmacy family have provided in their life. A special thank you is sent to the families who designated the Foundation as a means

for remembering our colleagues. These gifts live on through programs and services provided by the Foundation for innovative projects and future pharmacy practitioners.

Leadership Pharmacy EndowmentIn 2011, IPA and the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin launched a campaign to permanently endow the Leadership Pharmacy Conference. The retirement of IPA’s long-time CEO, Tom Temple, was used as a sentinel moment to solicit contributions to this fund in his honor. All past participants of Leadership Pharmacy, as well as all Iowa pharmacists were invited to contribute to this special Endowment Fund. In the future, interest from this fund will be used to support Leadership Pharmacy. A goal of $750,000 was established for the Endowment Fund. To date, more than $500,000 has been pledged.

Silent AuctionEach year at the IPA Annual Meeting, the Foundation sponsors its Dessert Reception and Silent Auction. Creative donations of auction items, along with generous bidders, serve to help raise money for the IPA Foundation. The Auction event generally raises in excess of $15,000 which goes directly to support student scholarships.

Eggleston-Granberg Golf ClassicThe Eggleston-Granberg Golf Classic is an annual fund raising event sponsored by the IPA Foundation. All contributions for this event, over and above event costs, are made available to support student scholarships. The event is also designed as an opportunity to build relationships between pharmacists and student pharmacists for a day on the links. A special thank you to all golfers, volunteers, student sponsors and hole sponsors for their generous support.

The generosity of these individuals and companies is most appreciated as the Foundation works to support charitable causes in the profession. Following is a list of pharmacists, student pharmacists, technicians, and companies making a contribution to the IPA-F either through, payment with member dues, memorial contributions, participation in the Golf Classic, Silent Auction, and in-kind contributions.

The IPA Foundation is thankful to the 300+ pharmacists and pharmacies that gave in 2012 in the Copper Level ($99 or less). All contributions are important to the success of the IPA Foundation’s programs and services.
