A little more than two years ago, I decided to leave Paris or a short week and to travel to Kolkata I was lucky to meet David Earp and spenda week in shuktara, the home he had ounded in 1999.

It was very difcult or me to leave shuktara and I remember telling David: I never saw as much love in my lie as here, in shuktara

Shuktara is indeed a unique place. With a unique historyAs years went by, and David travelled throughout India or his work, he took around twenty children under his care, boys and girls.Orphans, some o them born on the streets, others abandoned in train stations, all dea or disabled. Some o them would not even be alivenow, had it not have been or David

Always accompanied by Pappu Mishra, his strongest help (chairman o shuktara), David really raised them as i they were his children...Giving them daily and constant care... They made them a happy amily, a strong amily

I returned to shuktara on dierent occasions, and, each time, I ound a real amily. No one was missing. They were all there, happy, welcoming, careul o each other. Remarkably well-educated youths, a beautiul amily.

And not only, throughout the years, did David raise these children, watch over their education, their care, but he also had the excellent idea omaking this home a permanent one by purchasing the building in itsel. Now, thanks to David, the home belongs to the shuktara charity.

David always wanted to give these young people a proessional training and, ideally, a job.

I returned to France with the idea to come back shortly aterwards, by suggesting a project in my feld o activity, restaurants. I came backa couple o months later, with Florence, with whom I work on a daily basis and, ater several brainstorming sessions, we came up with theidea o creating a pastry shop... I mentioned the idea to Fabien, a long-time riend, Che at Fauchon in Paris, who is as generous as he istalented and who immediately agreed to help us with the setting up o this project, fnanced by the Cojean** Restaurants Foundation, nourrir aimer donner.

Thus the story o Shuktara Cakes began.

Shuktara Cakes will oer a selection o pastries sold at Fauchon in Paris.

The pastry workshop will be managed by Somnath, closely linked to Shuktara, and supervised by Pappu Mishra Somnath and Pappu, as wellas all the youths o shuktara, will be trained by Fabien. Fabien, Florence and mysel will oten come back to make sure o the continuity othe training and o the project.

The benefts rom the sales will give the youths o shuktara an income and a proessional uture.
