The Problem FACE is Fighting: Economic Euthanasia Each year, many animals are brought to their veterinarian with life-threatening conditions. Sadly, many owners

cannot afford the critical care their beloved pets need to survive. They are left with one choice—euthanasia. According to the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition’s most recent statistics (July 2014-June 2015), over 6,000

ill/injured pets were relinquished to county shelters by pet owners, and 1,134 animals specifically categorized as “treatable” were euthanized. These alarming totals do not include the number of treatable pets euthanized in veterinary hospitals - a number that veterinarians do not report.

According to a 2014 CPI report, 15.8% of San Diegans fall below poverty level and 38% of San Diegans do not

earn a “Livable Wage.”

How FACE is Making a Difference: Saving Pets & Helping Families FACE provides financial grants for life-saving veterinary care on behalf of

low-income pet parents who cannot afford the cost of the emergency procedures their pets need to survive.

Since administering our first grant in 2007, FACE has directly saved the

lives of over 1,500 animals.

FACE grantees are low-income families, senior citizens, veterans, military families, students, disabled individuals, or simply hard-working families and individuals who struggle to survive paycheck to paycheck.

To date we have given over $2,500,000 back to the San Diego community. Grants are given directly to FACE’s 125+ partner veterinary hospitals.

Saving Lives through Community Partnerships FACE funding comes exclusively from individual, foundation and corporate donations. Thanks to the generosity

of our community we have raised over $3 million for pets and families in need.

Partner veterinary hospitals discount their services by at least 25 percent for FACE patients. They also actively participate in events and fundraise for FACE.

FACE believes education plays a huge role in pet health. We have a vibrant Youth Humane Education program.

We partner with five local organizations that serve under-privileged children to offer free education classes on animal topics such as basic pet care, interpreting animal behavior, the importance of spay/neuter, and animal careers! We also educate pet owners on the importance of preventative health care and pet insurance.
