MECHANICS FOR MIX AND FLAIR (AREA ELIMINATIONS)

Who can join? Open to all ENROLLED male and female HRM students. Affiliation to any bartender’s organization is NOT required, and all students from different

bartending – related organizations or groups are welcome to join

How to join? Prior invitations and forms will be sent to schools. Aspiring participants of the competition are

asked to attend the GSM BLUENIVERSITY CLUSTER SEMINAR, fill up a registration form and buy GSM Blue Bundle Pack

Schools can send participants as many as they want Registration forms will be submitted to the school administrator and available on the day of

scheduled CLUSTER Seminar in their area. Entry form must be endorsed by school head and must have participant’s 1x1 ID Picture with

white background. A photocopy of school ID should be submitted together with the entry form. Once registered, participants will be given a Competition Manual and be scheduled for MIX and

FLAIR Elimination.

Recipe Guidelines

Student shall develop their original cocktail recipe but will prepare 2 portions (1 for show glass and 1 for the tasting divided into three (3) shot glasses provided by the organizers)

Name of cocktail shall be relevant to its final presentation. Characteristic or presentation color should be associated with the event.

Cocktails shall contain at least 30 ml but not more than 60ml of GSM Blue It should have not more than six (6) ingredients including drops and dashes. Measurement shall be expressed in millimeters (ml) Established standard international cocktail recipes are NOT allowed. No hot drink concoction is

allowed. Dairy products such as milk, eggs, etc. are not allowed. Garnish should be edible fruit that is originally designed by the students. No basic design of

garnish is allowed. Competitors may use standard glasses but special glass or fancy glass can be an option. Method of mixing can be shake, build, blend or stir. Originality and creativity of the drink is of high value.

Note: Official Recipe Entry should be submitted to your local coordinator before October 22, 2010GMA Area Elimination – October 28, 2010 / Venue to be advised.

Equipment Rules Participants shall provide all tools and equipments and other flair materials

including empty GSM blue bottles to be used except for the sponsored items. Bottle size is limited to 700ml, 750ml and 1Liter only, except for those bottles whose maximum

content is below 700ml or above 1 Liter. Flairing other empty bottles/containers is strictly not allowed.

a. Stage marshals will inspect the content of bottles/containers before and after the performanceb. Bottles must have at least 60ml content before the start of performance for exhibition flair. Full or Half filled bottles for working flair.c. Bottles must have at least 30ml left after the performance

Juices and extracts must be put into juice containers (store and pour) and must be half-filled or more.

Use of any type of tape as safety wrapping for bottles and shakers is not allowed, except for the Rim of bottles to hold the pourer/spouts joining thread of juice containers.

Note: Color of tape to be used should be plain blue

Maximum of two (2) identical bottles for each bottled ingredient will be allowed except for GSM Blue bottle. This is to ensure that the sponsored bottles will be used by participants in multiple routines.

All bottles must have their original label while fresh juice containers and simple syrups must have their own printed sticker labels to be provided by participants

Simple syrup is to be placed in an empty 700ml or 750ml bottle; original bottle label shall be replaced with the “SIMPLE SYRUP” sticker label to be provided by organizers.

Honey and other sticky syrups shall be placed in a decanter not in bottles. The use of plastic pourers is a must and it shall remain attached to the bottle during the

performance, free pouring technique is required. Bring your own tools and equipment. Borrowing from other participants is discouraged. This is

to avoid any property loss and switching. Pre-measured ingredients are extremely prohibited. Technical Judges will be asked to be strict in implementing deductions for this action. Ingress form will be provided for each participant included in the competition manual for easy monitoring of individual properties. GSM BLUE MARSHALLS will be inspecting your equipments based on your ingress/egress form.

Costume Rules Participants are required to wear the following:

Blue Maong pants (jeans) Any color of socks Any appropriate comfortable shoes Upper uniform to be provided by the organizers

No identifying marks or company logos in any form will be allowed Competition uniform must be worn at all time within the competition period except in the

practice area. General Rules

Screening committee will validate all submitted recipe entries Show glass riser is not allowed. Approved entries will be exclusive property of Ginebra San Miguel, Inc. Foul Languages and sexual-related behavior will not be allowed and shall be ground for

disqualification Magical acts and fire-related tricks are not allowed. In case of a tie, the competitor who received the highest points in Taste Criteria will be the

proclaimed winner. In case they are also tie in taste criteria, they will be required to mix their own cocktail on-the-spot and the score will be based on taste. If scores are the same again, participant who received the highest score in Working Flair criteria will be proclaimed winner

The judges’ decision is IRREVOCABLE. However, any protest and complaint will be entertained and handled by concerned judge/s and Committee on Competition Rules.

Time Concerns Participants are required to be in the venue of competition four (4) hours prior to the scheduled

time of event. In areas where there are 50 or more participants, batching will be applied and each batch will be given specific call times. This is to ensure that everything is in order before competition starts.

The participants will have pour test in different ml/ounces before the main performance. (FINALS ONLY)

Participants have (5) minutes performance time to do the following: side shows or gimiks working flair & exhibition flair installation of garnish

Corresponding points will be deducted if the total performance time exceeds five (5) minutes, a 1 point deduction will be imposed for every 10 seconds thereafter and will be disqualified if time goes beyond (6) minutes.

The host will announce the total time right after each performance so that the judges, participants and audiences are aware of it. Time will be displayed in the screen on-stage

Background Music Participants shall provide their own background music that is on CD Form only. Background music shall be in CDA format only since this format is widely accepted by any CD

Players CD Marshall shall collect the CDs 3 hours prior to the scheduled call time.

a. It must be labeled with participant’s name, sequence number and track /music title.b. Organizers will provide stickers for the labeling of CDs.c. Participants are asked to bring two (2) identical CDs in case of emergency.

Participant’s background music will be played upon the signal of host. Sharing of CD is not allowed. Each participant shall bring their own CD In the event that the participant’s CD jammed during the performance, the DJ will automatically

play an alternative related music to prevent any delay. In this case, participant has to proceed performing while adjustment takes place.

Competition Proper Registration of participants Sequence number will be determined through draw lots Final briefing to be conducted by the Technical Committee Participants will be toured in the stage for familiarization and any adjustments Light positioning will be rehearsed Music CDs will be collected by CD Marshall All CDs will be rehearsed with the DJ to check any possible defects Participants to prepare their ingredients, flair tools and equipments to be use. All participants are required to remain in the preparation area 2 hours before competition starts Any other participant’s concerns and requests shall be coursed through the Technical Marshall. Coaches and supporters will not be allowed inside the preparation and practice room.
