DESCRIPTION

Invisible Hospital is a new home for art and writing for and by those with mental illness. It will be dedicated to those who not only feel its pain, but the side effects of stigma, misrepresentation, blame, discrimination, misdiagnosis, malpractice, and alienation. We welcome submissions of any kind. We aim to include work from those with depression, anxiety, OCD, schizophrenia, dissasociative disorders, eating disorders, psychosis, PTSD, bipolar, mania, and from those whose mental illnesses are less documented. We also feel it is important to give priority to folks already marginalized just by being. This will be a safe place for everyone.

Invisible Hospital: Home Issue

Dear reader/future contributor, This issue is the start of a new home for art and writing for and by those with mental illness. It will be dedicated to those who not only feel its pain, but the side effects of stigma, misrepresentation, blame, discrimination, misdiagnoses, malpractice, and alienation. Abelism, classism, racism, homophobia, transphobia or any other kind of discrimination or hate will not be tolerated. This first issue is a test run of sorts. I call this the “Home Issue” because it contains only work from me, a 20-y/o girl with panic disorder. My hope is that you reading this will feel at home in a publication and will submit your own creations for future issues. To submit, or just get ideas out there, send stuff to ginapierikhendry @gmail.com. You can submit works anomymously or asked to be published with an alias. Though we aim to include as many perspectives as possible, we do ask that the work you submit be creative in some way, as we cannot include questions, advice, or summaries of personal experiences.

I look forward to working with all of you in Invisible Hospital.

Gina Pierik Hendry

this weather

there are the dark, humid, choking, heavy days in which the finches’ voices are muffled and des-perate. Today is one of those days. It brings back memories of last spring, and like chains, they hold me down, unable to walk down those stairs, unable to put on that coat, unable to walk out that door.

My mom wants me to go grocery shopping tonight.

I’m so fearful of everything.
