WHAT?

• Construction of approximately 13,500 feet of sanitary sewers.

• Separation of approximately 260 acres of the combined sewer system.

• Elimination of Diversion Structure 006.

WHY?

• Eliminate overflows.

• Reduce the volume of untreated wastewater to the receiving waters downstream.

• Meet regulatory requirements as part of KC’s Overflow Control Program.

WHEN?

• Field investigations will be ongoing from December 2014 through June 2015.

• Construction is expected to be completed in late 2017.

WHO?

• Kansas City Water Services assisted by Tetra Tech, Ace Pipe Cleaning, EAE Inc., Schmitz, King & Associates, SE3, TSi Engineering, Inc., and Vireo.

WHERE?

The project area boundaries:

• Northern boundary: Riverfront Road/Levee Road

• Southern boundary: Front Street

• Eastern boundary: North/south railroad track (between Southern Rd. and Topping Ave)

• Western boundary: Riverfront Road

IMPROVEMENTS?

• More reliable sanitary sewer service and stormwater conveyance that is less prone to wet weather problems.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

• Various field crews cleaning and closed-circuit video of public sewer lines.

• Smoke from smoke testing activities.

• Temporary street closures.

• Smoke testing field crew trucks will be in the area and clearly marked.

• Once construction begins, businesses are expected to be impacted.

CONTRACT AMOUNT

Design professional services contract includes all services rendered through the preliminary design phase of the project.
